  • The support bearing requires high DN to raise specific energy efficiency for the state of the art rotating machine with high speed. Especially for the system has a big rotor(750 kgf) with high speed(about one mi i lion DNs) such as the pulsed generator, tin selection of the bearing and lubrication method are very important.   • In this study, three-dimensional rotordynamic analyses have been conducted using equivalent beam, hybrid and fun three-dimensional models. The Present computational method is based on the general finite element method with rotating gyroscopic effects of a rotor system. General purpose commercial finite element code, SAMCEF which includes practical rotordynamics module with various types of rotor analysis methods and bearing elements is applied. For the purpose of numerical verification, comparison study for a benchmark rotor model with support bearings is performed first. Detailed finite element models based on three different modeling concepts are constructed and then computational analyses are conducted for the realistic and complex three-dimensional rotor system. The results for rotor stability and mass unbalance response are presented and compared with the experimental vibration test conducted in this study.

  • A localization development of Composite rotor blade for Smart Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(SUAV) has been conducted. Overall localization development encompassed selection of domestic composite material having similar properties to that of original one at its best, coupon tests for data base of new material properties, re-calculation of blade sectional properties, and validation of structural/dynamic design requirements such as isolation of rotor natural frequency from excitation, static and fatigue strength, aeroelastic stability. The results of all these activities are described. This paper briefly discusses the improved manufacturing process for the localization of SUAV blade.

Airloads and Structural Loads Analysis of LCH Rotor Using a Loose CFD/CSD Coupling (유체-구조 연계해석을 통한 소형민수헬기(LCH) 공력 및 구조하중 해석)

  • The airloads and structural loads of Light Civil Helicopter (LCH) rotor are investigated using a loose CFD/CSD coupling. The structural dynamics model for LCH 5-bladed rotor cwith elastomeric bearing and inter-bladed damper is constructed using CAMRAD-II. Either isolated rotor or rotor-fuselage model is used to identify the effect of the fuselage on the aeromechanics behavior at a cruise speed of 0.28. The fuselage effect is shown to be marginal on the aeromechanics predictions of LCH rotor, though the effect can be non-negligible for the tail structure due to the prevailing root vortices strengthened by the fuselage upwash. A lifting-line based comprehensive analysis is also conducted to verify the CFD/CSD coupled analysis. The comparison study shows that the comprehensive analysis predictions are generally in good agreements with CFD/CSD coupled results. However, the predicted comprehensive analysis results underestimate peak-to-peak values of blade section airloads and elastic motions due to the limitation of unsteady aerodynamic predictions. Particularly, significant discrepancies appear in the structural loads with apparent phase differences.

Target Tracking Control of a Quadrotor UAV using Vision Sensor (비전 센서를 이용한 쿼드로터형 무인비행체의 목표 추적 제어)

  • The goal of this paper is to design the target tracking controller for a quadrotor micro UAV using a vision sensor. First of all, the mathematical model of the quadrotor was estimated through the Prediction Error Method(PEM) using experimental input/output flight data, and then the estimated model was validated via the comparison with new experimental flight data. Next, the target tracking controller was designed using LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) method based on the estimated model. The relative distance between an object and the quadrotor was obtained by a vision sensor, and the altitude was obtained by a ultra sonic sensor. Finally, the performance of the designed target tracking controller was evaluated through flight tests.

  • In this study, scale-down design of full-scale Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) main rotor blade has been investigated. The scaled model system were designed for the measurement of aerodynamic performance, tip vortex and noise source. For the purpose of considering the same aerodynamic loads, the Mach-scale method has been applied. The Mach-scaled model has the same tip Mach number, and it also has the same normalized frequencies. That is, the Mach-scaled model is analogous to full-scale model in the view point of aerodynamics and structural dynamics. Aerodynamic scale-down process could be completed just by adjusting scaling dimensions and increasing rotating speed. In the field of structural dynamics, design process could be finished by confirming the rotating frequencies of the designed blade with the stiffness and inertial properties distributions produced by sectional design. In this study, small-scaled blade sectional design were performed by applying domestic composite prepregs and structural dynamic characteristics of designed model has been investigated.

  • In this paper, explain to development of low pressure axial compressor performance test rig in KARI. Performance test rig consist of a entrance section, rotor, stator, shaft, rig housing, bearing housing and exit section. Test rig design structural optimization to rotor dynamics analysis of the simplified rotor-shaft assembly and flow analysis of entrance/exit section.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and performance of a prototype multi-rotor unmaned aerial vehicle( UAV) platform featuring an inertial measurement unit(IMU) based autonomous-flying for use in bluetooth communication environments. Although there has been a fair amount of study of free-flying UAV with multi-rotors, the more recent trend has been to outfit hexarotor helicopter with gimbal to support various services. This paper introduces the hardware and software systems toward very compact and autonomous hexarotors, where they can perform search, rescue, and surveillance missions without external assistance systems like ground station computers, high-performance remote control devices or vision system. The proposed system comprises the construction of the test hexarotor platform, the implementation of an IMU, mathematical modeling and simulation in the helicopter. Furthermore, the hexarotor helicopter with implemented IMU is connected with a micro controller unit(MCU)(ARM-cortex) board. The micro-controller is able to command the rotational speed of the rotors and to get the measurements of the IMU as input signals. The control simulation and experiment on the real system are implemented in the test platform, evaluated and compared against each other.

  • This paper described the general dynamic point for rotor design and the design procedure of low vibration blade. Generally, rotor rotating natural frequencies are determined to minimize hub loads, blade vibration and to suppress ground resonance at rotor design stage. First, through rotor frequency diagram, natural frequencies must be far away from resonance point and rotating loads generated from blade can be transformed to non-rotating load to predict fuselage vibration. Vibration level was predicted at each forward flight condition by calculating cockpit's vertical acceleration transferred from non-rotating hub load assuming a fuselage as a rigid body. This design method is applied to design current Next-generation Rotor System Blade(NRSB) and will be applied to New Rotor which will be developed Further.

  • In this study, computational structural vibration analyses of a smart unmanned aerial vehicle (SUAV) with tilt-rotors due to dynamic hub loads have been conducted considering detailed supporting structures of installed equipments. Three-dimensional dynamic finite element model has been constructed for different fuel conditions and tilting angles corresponding to helicopter, transition and airplane flight modes. Practical computational procedure for modal transient response analysis is successfully established. Also, dynamic loads generated by rotating blades and wakes in the transient and forward flight conditions are calculated by unsteady computational fluid dynamics technique with sliding mesh concept. As the results of present study, transient structural displacements and accelerations of the vibration sensitive equipments are presented in detail. In addition, vibration characteristics of structures and installed equipments of which safe operation is normally limited by the vibration environment specifications are physically investigated for different flight conditions.
