CO$_{2}$ 레이저를 이용한 정밀 절단 가공 기술

  • 레이저 빔이갖고있는 spatial coherence 특성에 의해서 렌즈를 이용하여 집광시키면 집광부에서 고출력 밀도를 얻을 수 있다. 이와같이 집광된 레이저 빔을 재료의 표면에 조사하면 재료로 부터 미세량을 용융, 증발시키므로 일반적인 방법으로는 가공이 어려운 단단한 재료의 절단과 미세 구멍가공이 가능하게된다. 본 논문에서는 출력, 펄스 수, defoucsing, pulse on-time, 보조가스 압력등을 변화 시키면서 드릴링 실험을 수행하고, 각 실험 조건에서의 구멍 형상과 깊이를 측정함으로써 가공 변수들의 process sensitivity를 평가하였다.

  • The characteristics of supersonic coaxial/off-axis jet impingements on a slanted kerf surface were experimentally studied, to investigate the role of the assist gas that removes molten materials from cut zone formed by laser machining. In this parametric study, hundreds of high-resolution schlieren images were obtained for various gas pressures, distances between nozzle exit and kerf surface, kerf widths, and alignments of off-axis nozzle. It was noticed that simply increasing the assist gas pressure was not effective in eliminating the flow separation that occurs downstream of the kerf surface. However, it was also observed that by increasing the kerf width and utilizing off-axis nozzles, the separation of the assist gas on the kerf surface can be weakened. The effect of the distance between the nozzle exit and the kerf surface on the characteristics of separation occurring on the kerf surface was found to be lower in the case of supersonic nozzles than that in the case of sonic nozzles.

  • An experimental study to improve the impingement characteristics of the assist gas in laser cutting was carried out. For various assist-gas pressures, and locations and installation angles of the nozzle, the characteristics of the impingement of the jet from a supersonic rectangular nozzle were compared to those previously observed for typical circular nozzles. Schlieren flow visualizations and Pitot pressure measurements downstream of the kerf surface were utilized for this purpose. The present rectangular supersonic nozzle decreased the strength of the Mach disc occurring at the corner of the kerf surface, and thus, could weaken the separation of the assist gas on the kerf surface and increase the Pitot pressures downstream compared to conventional circular nozzles.

친환경 난삭재 절삭가공기술

  • 현재 난삭재 가공에는 연삭가공기술이 널리 쓰이고 있다. 하지만 연삭가공은 냉각액, 절삭유 등의 소모가 많아 환경에 나쁜 영향을 미치고 에너지 소모도 크다. 최근에 LAM(레이저 보조가공) 등의 기술개발이 이루어져 기존보다 더 효율적으로 난삭재를 가공할 수 있게 되었다. 이 글에서는 환경 친화적 난삭재 절삭가공기술 동향에 대해 소개한다.

Computational Study of Impingement Characteristics of Assist Gas from Coaxial/Off-axis Nozzles in Laser Machining (레이저 가공에서 동축/탈축 보조가스의 충돌특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • A computational study was carried out to analyze the characteristics of supersonic (Mach 2.0) coaxial/off-axis jet's impingements on a slanted kerf surface in laser machining. The effects of various parameters such as gas pressure, distance between nozzle exit and kerf edge surface, and application of off-axis nozzles on the impingement phenomena of the assist-gas on kerf surface were observed. The present study showed that simply increasing the assist-gas pressure for coaxial supersonic nozzle was not effective to alleviate the strength of flow separation on kerf surface. It also presented the optimized operating condition of the coaxial nozzle to have the highest skin friction values over kerf surface.

  • Machinability of LAM(Laser Assisted Machining) has been studied for ceramics such as $Al_2O_3$, $Si_3_N4$ and $ZrO_2$ by $CO_2$ laser. It was possible to remove ceramics by PCBN tool because material became softening and deterioration by local laser beam irradiation. The advantage of LAM is the ability to produce larger material removal rates and tool life. But, for cutting of $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$, stage of laser power control was needed owing to thermal shock with high temperature of workpiece by laser power. And when $Si_3N_4$ was machined by LAM, $N_2$ gas spouted from surface of one cause of high temperature. Characteristics of LAM were analyzed using pyrometer, dynamometer, SEM and EDS to measure temperature of workpiece surface, cutting force, variation of machining surface and structure of lattice respectively. As the result of this study, it was found that machinability of LAM for ceramics in $CO_2$ laser and mechanism of LAM was different according to the kind of ceramics because of properties of materials.

Study on the Preheating Method of NURBS Shaped Workpiece by Laser Assisted Machining (레이저보조가공에서 NURBS 곡면 형상의 예열방법에 대한 연구)

  • Laser-Assisted machining (LAM) is a new method for processing hard-to-cut materials. However, curved shapes are difficult to predict the preheating effect of by LAM because heat sources are changed by moving laser module. So, it is necessary to study the preheating effect of the laser heat source irradiated on a 3-dimensionally shaped workpiece, such as a NURBS shaped workpiece. In this study, thermal analysis and preheating experiment of the LAM for the NURBS shaped workpiece are performed. Also, two machining methods are proposed to avoid interference of laser module and cutting tool. The results of the analysis can be applied to various shaped workpieces by LAM.
