Optimum Design of Formed Tool for Die of Bearing Rubber Seal Using Design of Experiments (실험계획법에 의한 자동차용 러버실 금형가공을 위한 총형공구의 최적설계)

  • A bearing is one of core parts in automobile. Rubber seal of the bearing is important to improve performance of bearing, formed by hot-press die of rubber seal for the intricate shape. In this study, formed tools are used to machine die of bearing rubber seal and the machining operation is classified into the several process of high precision. Design of experiments is used to optimize selection of the formed tools for the efficient machining of the hot-press die. The cutting force, tool wear and tool life are determined to characteristics. And, the clearance angle, the rake angle and the length cutting edge are considered as the major factors. Experiments are repeated to use one-way factorial design, and tool life is predicted by regression model.

  • Formed insert type tool satisfy both the surface roughness and geometric accuracy, so that cutting edge of formed tool can duplicate final feature. For experiment the formed tools with various clearance angles are machined. And the tools are evaluated with respect cutting force, flank rear and surface roughness to optimistic condition.

  • The design of experiments are used for optimal design of formed tools to machine automobile bearing rubber seal die, which is classified into the high precision rubber mold. The clearance angle, rake angle and the length cutting edge are considered as the factors. The cutting force is selected to be a characteristic value and compared with the mean tool wear and life by repeated experiments. The design of the experiment is based on the repeated one-way factorial design, which finds the significance of the factors and the best level to predict the tool life by using ANOVA and regression.

  • The formed tool is used to machine the geometrical shape of bearing rubber seal efficiently. The bearing rubber seal has complex geometry for the complicated geometrical shape to prevent leakage of lubricant oil and influx of the dust effectively. Because it is difficult to machine the unique shape exactly by the conventional tool, the formed tool is used in machining a rubber seal die. In this paper, It is performed to investigate machining characteristic of the formed tool; cutting edge wear, cutting force, and surface quality. Also, an efficient precision machining condition is proposed, and the inspection results of rubber seal with CAI are discussed.

  • The formed tool is used to machine the unique shape of rubber seal for geometrical shaping and reduction of cutting time. The bearing rubber seal produced by hot press forming has complex geometry for the complex geometrical shape to prevent leakage of lubricant oil and influx of the dust effectively. Because it is difficult to machine the unique shape exactly by the conventional tool, the formed tool is used in machining mold of the seal. In this paper, It is performed for selection of the formed tool to investigate cutting edge wear, cutting force, and surface quality. Also, an efficient high precision machining is proposed on the experiment data.
