국내 케이블TV가 지난달 1일로 개국 10년을 맞았다. 가입자 수나 시청률 등 수치상으로는 놀라운 신장세를 보이며‘뉴미디어의 강자’로 떠올랐지만 아직도 저가 이용료나 뒤쳐진 방송 · 통신 융합 등 내실이라는 측면에선 개선해야 할 구석들이 없지 않다. 오는 2010년이면 아날로그방송이 종료되는 디지털방송 조류에 맞춰 변신을 시도하고 있는 케이블TV업계를 살펴봤다.

KBS는 올해 국내 최초로 업체와 공동으로 개발한 디지털 송신기를 사용하여 실험방송 송출에 성공하였으며, 이 실험방송은 본격적인 필드테스트를 위해 내년도 후반기까지 계속될 예정이다. 본 논문에서는 지상파 디지털 TV 실험 방송을 위해 구축되고 있는 KBS 의 지상파 DTV 송신 시스템에 대해 기술적인 사양과 구성, 그리고 구축 현황에 대해 소개한다.

"DB분야에서도 정보의 형태와 그 이용기술에 혁명적인 변화의 물결이 닥치고 있다. 전통적인 문자ㆍ수치DB에 이미지, 화상등이 추가되고 검색방법의 사용자 인터페이스도 훨씬 쉽고 편리해지고 있다. 여기에다 CD-ROM등의 디지털 광기술을 이용한 오프라인 DB가 점유율을 확대해오면서 그 신장율은 온라인DB를 훨씬 앞지르고 있는 상황이다. 게다가 컴퓨터에 전화, TV, 비디오 등이 연결되면서 전통적인 미디어 영역이 점차 흐려지는 경향을 보이고 있다.

This experimental research explores effect of cognition desire as audience's factor, and attention as context factor on audience's acquirement of information and understanding. Most previous researches of media effect focuses on news contents of TV, Newpaper and Internet. However the number of researches on TV documentary which contains lots of information very limited, and It's difficult to find researches on effect of cognition desire and attention on audience. Therefore this research tries to find effect of cognition desire and attention on audience's acquirement of information and understanding through experiment of TV current documentary. For this experimental research, 2 groups of subjects composed of 135 university students were exposed to 2 different viedeo clips of TV current documantary, one with window buzz, the other without it, after designing cognition desire as internal factor of 2 groups. Questions which were designed to measure cognition desire, acquirement of information and understanding of message were asked and analysed. This research found that subjects with higher degeree of cognition desire showed higher degree of acquirement of information and understanding than subjects with lower degree of cognition desire. However the effect of attention on audience's acquirement of information and understanding could not be found.

This study was started to not only resolve structural problems such as lack of contents, an unstable structure of earnings, and reduction of an additional market in Korean film industry through revitalizing digital cinema, but also make digital cinema become a power for growing Korean film industry furthermore. In the section of revitalizing digital cinema production, I suggest that expanding an audience base of low budget art cinema using digital technology will contribute to diversity film contents, and joint production with broadcasters by digital technology will expedite growing film industry as well as revitalizing digital cinema production. In the section of revitalizing digital cinema distribution, I insist, we should make effort positively to build reasonable hold-back and so on in order that film industry's positive participation in the market of digital film distribution and new media such as DMB or IP-TV may become an additional market to film industry. In conclusion, we can gain a foothold to leap toward a Position of cultural technology Power through efforts to resolve problems inherent in digital cinema.

This study aims to analyse the process of digital switchover in the UK, which is regarded as one of the most successful cases in the world, and to examine efficient plans for the future digital switchover project in Korea through the UK's case. The digital switchover in the UK shows with no doubt the significance of integrated government policies, collaboration between relevant governmental organisations, and the public service broadcaster. Along with this, active and detailed Public Relations (PR) should take place, helping the citizens realise the efficiency of the phased switchover region by region and the measures to resolve the gaps between all social brackets. To sum up, the successful digital transfer is not only achieved by governmental policy and technological preparation from broadcasters, but also by voluntary citizen participation. Government officers and broadcast executives need to realise this and should focus on communicating with citizens.

With the discontinuation of analog broadcasting in 2012, the cable broadcasters are investing in the conversion to DCATV (Digital Cable TV). DCATV is providing various broadcast of high quality to audiences through paid broadcasting called PPV (Pay Per View). Such services are using various kinds of CASs (Conditional Access System) in order to verify the viewing rights of subscriber. In addition, to respond to the fast changing environment of digital broadcast, not only simple digitalization of broadcast but also services such as PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and VOD (Video On Demand) are provided to subscribers. Because these additional services have many difficult areas to cover with traditional CAS alone, a new plan has become necessary. With the improvement of related regulations in 2008, the test service of IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) which is a broadcast service through the internet started. Because like DCATV, IPTV also sets the real time broadcast and the VOD service as the basic services, the use of appropriate CAS is required. In this study, the CASs for DCATV and IPTV undergo comparative analysis, and the development direction which will benefit both subscribers and broadcasting companies is suggested.

디지털방송이 시작되면서 고품질의 A/V(비디오/오디오)프로그램과 다양한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 제공하는 데이터방송을 처리하기 위한 수신 장치의 비중이 커지고 있다 이와 관련하여 데이터방송 환경에서 새로운 기술과 서비스가 등장할 때마다 이를 수용할 수 있는 소프트웨어를 탑재한 새로운 수신 장치가 필요하다. 일반적으로 한번 가정 내에 보급된 디지털 수신 장치의 소프트웨어 업그레이드가 용이하지 않기 때문에, 방송을 통해 이를 실현한다. 본 논문은 TV 셋탑박스 (STB) 내에 상주하는 middleware native application software 를 방송으로 다운받아 수정하는 기능을 지닌 STB 의 구현에 대해서 기술한다. 소프트웨어 업데이트 시스템은 소프트웨어를 포함하는 데이터 카루셀 스트림을 다운받아 파싱하는 다운로더, 추출된 소프트웨어를 설치하는 업데이트 로더, 그리고 예치상황이 발생하면 셋탑박스가 새로 부팅될 때, 로그 파일을 이용하여 소프트웨어를 옛날 상태의 회복시켜주는 리커버러 (recoverer)로 구성되어 있다. 다운로더는 지상파 디지털 방송 규격인 ATSC 규약에 맞게 구현하고, ATSC용 STB환경에서 테스트하고 있다.

Digital Broadcast Service is being very popular and the delivery mechanism for digital broadcast content through IP network has progressed constantly, due to the advance of video and audio compression and network technologies. From these trends, in Korea, the commercial IPTV service starts in this year after the law related to IPTV is enacted last year. Since IPTV service, which integrates broadcast and communication services, can give an infrastructure for fusion of communication and interactive multimedia data service, IPTV service is attractive. Recently, by the advent of various wireless connection technologies and the mobile devices of high capability, Mobile IPTV, which has an advantage of not only IPTV but also mobile TV, has gained much interest. In this paper, we review a necessary ingredient for Mobile IPTV in the next generation wired/wireless convergence network environment which consists of heterogeneous wireless access networks. In addition, we propose the scheme for user mobility and service session mobility management using RTSP protocol and introduce the service gateway concept to guarantee the extension of IPTV service platform.
