  • 최근 ADSL과 케이블 모뎀을 이용한 고속 가입자망의 급속한 보급과 인터넷 정보가전(Internet appliances) 개발의 활성화는 홈네트워킹(home networking)이라는 새로운 컴퓨팅 환경을 등장 시켰다. 가정이나 사무실 내부에 PC, 프린터, 네트워크 카메라, 인터넷 냉장고, PDA, 디지털 TV등의 각종 장비들을 하나의 네트워크로 연결하고 게이트웨이를 통해서 외부의 인터넷과 연결된 홈네트워킹 환경에서, 사용자들은 가정에서 웹(Web)을 통해서 인터넷의 다양한 서비스를 이용하는 것 뿐 아니라, 원격지에서 가정 내부의 장비들을 제어하는 원격 관리 등의 새로운 서비스에 대하여 연구하였다.

Personalized EPG Application using Automatic User Preference Learning Method (사용자 선호도 자동 학습 방법을 이용한 개인용 전자 프로그램 가이드 어플리케이션 개발)

  • With the advent of the digital broadcasting, the audiences can access a large number of TV programs and their information through the multiple channels on various media devices. The access to a large number of TV programs can support a user for many chances with which he/she can sort and select the best one of them. However, the information overload on the user inevitably requires much effort with a lot of patience for finding his/her favorite programs. Therefore, it is useful to provide the persona1ized broadcasting service which assists the user to automatically find his/her favorite programs. As the growing requirements of the TV personalization, we introduce our automatic user preference learning algorithm which 1) analyzes a user's usage history on TV program contents: 2) extracts the user's watching pattern depending on a specific time and day and shows our automatic TV program recommendation system using MPEG-7 MDS (Multimedia Description Scheme: ISO/IEC 15938-5) and 3) automatically calculates the user's preference. For our experimental results, we have used TV audiences' watching history with the ages, genders and viewing times obtained from AC Nielson Korea. From our experimental results, we observed that our proposed algorithm of the automatic user preference learning algorithm based on the Bayesian network can effectively learn the user's preferences accordingly during the course of TV watching periods.

  • Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) through broadband cable network is a subscriber-based system which consists of software and set-top box. However, a weakness for the current IPTV system is the lack of security between users and CAS. This paper proposes a user authentication protocol at STB, which limits the service by the user-valued attribute to prevent illegal IPTV users. User attribute values change the order with bit form according to the certain rule, and apply to one-way hash function and Diffie-Hellman's elliptic curve key-exchange algorithm. The proposed protocol is able to improve on user authentication and computation. Also, each user generates an authentication message by smart card and receives various services based on the user-valued attribute.

  • 본 논문의 목표는 개인용 리치미디어 플레이어에 대한 연구이다. 개인용 리치미디어 플레이어는 아날로그 지상파, 케이블 방송, DVD VCR등과 같은 미디어로부터 아날로그 컨텐츠를 받아 H.264 Encoder를 상용하여 디지털화하여 유무선 인터넷을 통해 개인에게 직접 재전송 해 주는 플랫폼이다. 전 세계적으로 아날로그 방송을 디지털 방송으로 전환하고 있으나, 아날로그 방송을 시청하는 사람들은 상당히 많다. 대부분의 시청자들은 집에서 TV를 통해 프로그램을 시청하고 있다. 광대역 인터넷이 일반화 되면서 많은 사람들이 인터넷상에서 UCC나 VOD서비스 같은 멀티미디어 서비스를 이용하고있다. 하지만, 이러한 서비스들은 실시간으로 방송되는 프로그램을 서비스해주지는 못하고있다. 본 논문에서 개발한 개인형 리치미디어 플레이어는 실시간 방송 프로그램을 H.264로 인코딩하여 시청자가 인터넷에 접속할 수 있는 곳이면 어디든지 인터넷상으로 방송 프로그램은 즐길 수 있다. 본 논문에서 개발한 플랫폼은 ARM CORE와 H.264 Encoder를 사용하여 실시간으로 방송 컨텐츠를 인코딩하여 RTP, RTSP Protocol을 이용하여 유무선으로 전송하게 된다. 운영체제는 uClinux 26이고 Streaming Server는 실시간으로 네트워크 상황을 인지하여 다이나믹하게 전송 레이트를 조절함으로써 QoS를 구현하고 있다.

  • DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) is a new media service that can provide CD quality audio, various data service, interactive and high quality mobile communications through popular media such as terrestrial broadcasting, satellite, cable TV, and internet. In this paper, a new EPG(Electronic Program Guide) application model is proposed. The model is based on DAB and combines a DAB receiver and PCs so that it can take advantages of using various multimedia services and plenty of internet contents. The developed EPSD(EPG Provider System on DAB) has Web-based Server/Client structure and povides EPG functionalities to client PCs over internet. Therefore, the DAB receiver can be smaller and cheaper, and can develop abundant data services on internet. It can also provide high quality video services and be expected to become an important component in future home network systems.

  • The emergence of new communication media, digital, is something of a wonder, as well as a cultural tension. The industrial technologies that dramatically expand human abilities are being developed much faster than the speed of adaptation by humans. Without an exception, it creates new contents and form of the culture by shaking the very foundation of the notion about human beings. Korean broadcasting environment has stepped into the era of multi-media, multi-channel as the digital technology separated the media into network, cable, satellite and internet. In this digital culture, broadcasting, as a medium of information delivering and communication, has bigger influence than ever. Such changes in broadcasting environment turned the TV viewers into new consumers who participate and play the main role in active communication by choosing and using the media. This study is trying to systemize the question about the core identity of broadcasting through brand as the consumers stand in the center of broadcasting with the power to select channel. The story schema theory can be applied as a cognitive psychological tool to approach the active consumers in order to explain the cognitive processes that are related to information processing. It is a design with stories, which comes up as a case of a brand's story telling. The range of this study covers the current issue and educational programs in network TV during the period of May and August of year 2005. The cases of Korean and foreign programs were compared by the station each program is broadcasted. This study concludes that it is important to take the channel identity into the consideration in the brand strategy of each program. Especially, the leading programs of a station must not be treated as a separate program that has nothing to do with the station's identity. They must be treated to include the contents and form that builds the identity of the channel. Also, this study reconfirmed that building a brand of the anchor person can play as an important factor in the identity of the program's brand.

A construction method for IP-based Fixed and Personalized A/V Mosaic EPG service (IP 기반 고정형 및 맞춤형 동영상 모자익 EPG 서비스 구축방법)

  • As accelerates the technical evolution of high-speed network and progresses the digitalization of broadcasting network, TV channel service through satellite/cable/terrestrial networks becomes more stable and mature. However, TV channel service using IP network such as IPTV is recently emerging. Especially, when it comes to current mosaic EPG(Electronic Program Guide) as a channel guide, the implementation of EPG via IP network is under developing. Furthermore, the personal target mosaic EPG is not provided at all in the IPTV. This paper proposes a construction method of mosaic system which can support fixed and personalized mosaic EPG using IP network for viewers. The fixed mosaic EPG is made several steps as follows ; First, H/E generates several mosaic A/V streams. Then, which are transmitted to the STB in terms of multicasting via IP network. Finally, mosaic EPG is displayed on TV through STB. In addition, this paper describes a construction model of the personalized A/V mosaic EPG that represents each person's favorite channels according to their tastes and interests. As for the contributions. The TV channel guide using IP network enable viewer to select channel more easily with practical adaptation of multi-channel expansibility and sufficient usability. In addition, through personal mosaic EPG, a number of viewers can compose their own mosaic EPG and enjoy a variety of channel easily in accordance with their preferences. Finally, the personal mosaic EPG can prohibit non-adult users from connecting adult-only contents more efficiently.

A Research on the Regulations and Perception of Interactive Game in Data Broadcasting: Special Emphasis on the TV-Betting Game (데이터방송 인터랙티브 게임 규제 및 이용자 인식에 관한 연구: 승부게임을 중심으로)

  • This study examines the regulatory issues and introduction problems of TV-betting data broadcasts in Korea by in-depth interview with a panel group. TV-betting data broadcast services of card games and horse racing games are widely in use in Europe and other parts of the world. In order to carry out the study, a demo program of TV-betting data broadcast in the OCAP(OpenCableTM Application Platform Specification) system environment, which is the data broadcasting standard for digital cable broadcasts in Korea was exposed to the panel group and then they were interviewed after watching and using the program. The results could be summarized as below. First of all, while TV-betting data broadcasts have many elements of entertainment, the respondents thought that it would be difficult to introduce TV-betting in data broadcasts as in overseas countries largely due to social factors. In addition, in order to introduce TV-betting data broadcasts, they suggested that excessive speculativeness must be suppressed through a series of regulatory system devices, such as by guaranteeing credibility of the media based on safe security systems for transactions, scheduling programs with effective time constraints to prevent the games from running too frequently, limiting the betting values, and by prohibiting access to games through set-top boxes of other data broadcast subscribers. The general consensus was that TV-betting could be considered for gradual introduction within the governmental laws and regulations that would minimize its ill effects. Therefore, the government should formulate long-term regulations and policies for data broadcasts. Once the groundwork is laid for safe introduction of TV-betting on data broadcasts within the boundary of laws and regulations, interactive TV games are expected to be introduced in Korea not only for added functionality of entertainment but also for far-ranging development of data broadcast and new media industries.

  • 정보통신 기술의 발달과 디지털 방송의 시작, 뉴미디어의 출현으로 인한 통신과 방송의 융합은 가속화되고 있다. 또한 2010년까지 광대역통신망 BcN과 홈네트워크 구축을 위한 정부정책이 실행 중에 있다. 100Mbps의 전송속도를 구현해야 하는 광대역 통신망(BcN)을 위해 기존 인터넷 백본 1)망은 잘 구축이 되어 있으나 가입자까지의 망 구조에 많은 문제점을 앉고 있다. 기존 전화국을 이용한 XDSL과 지역 SO를 활용한 Cable Modem의 경우 병목현상과 이론상 속도 또한 BcN과 통방통합이 요구하는 50-100Mhz의 전송속도를 만족하지 못한다. 새로운 망 구조를 구축하기 위해 많은 비용과 시간의 소요가 예상된다 가입자 망 구축에 따른 많은 방법과 이론이 제시되고 있다. 똔 논문에선 지역 SO를 활용하여 가입자까지 망을 통방통합과 BcN에 적합한 가입자 망을 새롭게 구성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 먼저 지역 50의 망을 활용하기 위해선 기존 KT와 파워콤의 COF(Glass Optical Fiber)망과 지역 케이블 SO의 HFC 망을 이용하기에는 동축케이블 망의 물리적 특성에 따른 한계로 통방통합과 BcN에 부적합하다. Tree And Branch 구조의 HFC망 대신 $SMF^{2)}$의 기존 SO의 자가망을 새롭게 설계하고 광분배망 기술인 $E-PON^{3)}$방식을 접목시켜 최대한 동축망을 사용하지 않고 굴곡 특성에 약한 $FOG^{4)}$의 특성을 극복하기 위해 $POF^{5)}$망을 이용하여 댁내 홈게이트웨이까지 연결하는 방식으로 지역 SO를 거점으로 활용하여 댁내까지 FHHT와 홈 네트워크까지의 가입자 망을 새롭게 구성하고자 한다. 저장의 효율성을 위해 이진 포멧인 IPMP화된 MP4 파일을 생성할 수 있다.으로써, 에러 이미지가 가지고 있는 엔트로피에 좀 근접하게 코딩을 할 수 있게 되었다. 이 방법은 실제로 Arithmetic Coder를 이용하는 다른 압축 방법에 그리고 적용할 수 있다. 실험 결과 압축효율은 JPEG-LS보다 약 $5\%$의 압축 성능 개선이 있었으며, CALIC과는 대등한 압축률을 보이며, 부호화/복호화 속도는 CALIC보다 우수한 것으로 나타났다.우 $23.87\%$($18.00\~30.91\%$), 갑폭 $23.99\%$($17.82\~30.48\%$), 체중 $91.51\%$($58.86\~129.14\%$)이였으며 성장율은 사육 온도구간별 차는 없었다.20 km 까지의 지점들(지점 2에서 지점 6)에서 매우 높은 값을 보이며 이는 조석작용으로 해수와 담수가 강제혼합되면서 표층퇴적물이 재부유하기 때문이라고 판단된다. 영양염류는 월별로 다소의 차이는 있으나, 대체적으로 지점 1과 2에서 가장 낮고, 상류로 갈수록 점차 증가하며 지점 7 상류역이 하류역에 비해 높은 농도이다. 월별로는 7월에 규산염, 용존무기태질소 및 암모니아의 농도가 가장 높은 반면에 용존산소포화도는 가장 낮다. 그러나 지점 14 상류역에서는 5월에 측정한 용존무기태질소, 암모니아, 인산염 및 COD 값이 7월보다 다소 높거나 비슷하다. 한편 영양염류와 COD값은 대체적으로 8월에 가장 낮으나 용존산소포화도는 가장 높다.출조건은 $100^{\circ}C$에서 1분간의 고온단시간 추출이 적합하였다. 증가를 나타내었는데

Market Definition and System Analysis of Paid Broadcasting Services (유료방송서비스의 시장 획정과 제도 분석)

  • This paper defines markets relating to each paid broadcasting service by applying the test method of critical sales loss to the results of survey to the paid service subscribers. The result confirms the existence of a meaningful competitive relationship--in terms of the Competition Law--among all paid broadcasting services included in this study, or at least analog cable broadcasting, digital cable broadcasting, and real time IPTV(Internet Protocol TV) service. This indicates that current regulations which are being applied to cable TV, satellite broadcasting, and IPTV are actually discriminatory. Based on these analysis results, this paper suggests that the main attention for the improvement of regulations should be focused on regulations which are differently applied to different paid service providers. In particular, Article 20 in the Internet Multimedia Broadcasting Law is interpreted as defining the real-time IPTV as an independent market, thereby having leeway to harm fair competition among different paid service providers. Therefore, that article needs to change to give the right of equal access to contents to all the competing paid service providers. Furthermore, to put teeth in the contents equal access rule, most popular pay channels need to be designated as target contents of the rule. As for the market-share limitation regulations, the paper suggests that an upper limit on the market share should be set based on the total number of subscribers of all the competing paid services and the same limit applied to all the competing paid service providers.
