A design method for optical fiber filter of lattice structure (격자형 광파이버필터의 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The propagation and delay properties in opical fiber are particularly attractive because digital signal processing and conventional analog signal processing techniques such as those using surface acoustic wave devices are limited In their usefulness for signal bandwidth exceeding one or two GHz, although they are very effective at lower frequencies. Since an accurate, low loss and short time delay elements can be obtained by using such an optical fiber, optical signal precessing has attracted much attention for high speed and broad-band signal precessing in particular channel separation filtering for optical FDM signals. In this paper, we consider a coherent optical lattice filter, which uses coherent light sources and consists of directional couplers and optical fiber delay elemnts. The optical fiber fitters are more restricted than the usual digital filters. The reasons are as follows. 1) the coupling coefficients of directional couplers are restricted to the number between 0 and 1. 2) optical signal E(complex amplitude) is divided into J If-$\boxUl$ and J L/7$\div$$\boxUl$ at the directional coupler. Considering these restrictions and in this case all the coupling coefficients of summing and branching elements are set to be equal, we have given design formulae for optical lattice filter, which make the best use of optical signal energy.

Measurement of thermal conductivity of fluid by unsteady hot wire method (非定常 熱線法 에 의한 流體 의 熱傳達率 測定)

  • A modified technique of the transient hot wire method to measure the thermal conductivity of fluid has been described in this paper. The thermal conductivity of fluid can be obtained by acquiring wire temperature as a function of time. Multiplication of the inverse slope of the temperature versus logarithm of time by an instrumental constant gives the thermal conductivity. The constant voltage was applied to Wheatstone bridge circuit. The wire temperature can be measured as a function of time precisely with the aid of the data acquisition system composed of a microprocessor and an analog-digital converter. The thermal conductivity of the electrically conducting fluid has been measured with the insulated hot wire coated by electrically non-conducting material. The effect of the coated insulation layer on the thermal conductivity has been examined, in which it is confirmed that the thermal conductivity of electrically conducting liquid can be determined by the transient coated hot wire method. Thermal conductivities of methanol, carbontetrachrolide, Freon-22 and glycerin have been measured at room temperature in the pressure from 0.1MPa to 35.1MPa. The experiment has been performed to compare the data from the bare and the coated wires, and the results are satisfactory.

  • High-speed complex-number arithmetic units are essential to baseband signal processing of modern digital communication systems such as channel equalization, timing recovery, modulation and demodulation. In this paper, a new complex-number multiplication algorithm is proposed, which is based on redundant binary (RB) arithmetic combined with radix-4 Booth recoding scheme. The proposed algorithm reduces the number of partial product by one-half as compared with the conventional direct method using real-number multipliers and adders. It also leads to a highly parallel architecture and simplified circuit, resulting in high-speed operation and low power dissipation. To demonstrate the proposed algorithm, a prototype complex-number multiplier-accumulator (CMAC) core with 10-bit operands has been designed using 0.8-$\mu\textrm{m}$ N-Well CMOS technology. The designed CMAC core contains about 18,000 transistors on the area of about 1.60 ${\times}$ 1.93 $\textrm{mm}^2$. The functional and speed test results show that it can operate with 120-MHz clock at V$\sub$DD/=3.3-V, and its power consumption is given to about 63-mW.

Noise Source Identification of a Pulse Combustion Burner Using Digital Signal Processing Techniques (디지탈 신호처리 기법을 이용한 맥동연소기의 소음원 규명에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a method for estimating the noise source contribution of a pulse combustion burner in a multiple input system where the input sources may be coherent each other. By coherence function method, it is found that the biggest part of the noise source in the pulse combustion burner is generated by the part of the combustion chamber. This analysis is modeled as three input / single output system because the noise generating mechanism of the pulse combustion burner is very complicated. The coherence function method is proved to be useful tool for the identification of noise source. The overall levels of the radiated source pressure by coherence function method are compared with those measured and calculated by the frequency response function approach. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the results calculated by the coherence function method when the input sources are coherent strongly each other. The estimation of shield effect by FRF method indicates that significant reduction can be achieved in sound radiation if only transmission path generated by the part of combustion chamber is acoustically shield.

  • An application of the cross correlation technique by adopting ultrasonic waves for water pipe flow measuring purpose is studied. It is a non-intrusive flow metering method by determining the time of the flight of the flow turbulent noise and its non-obstructing mechanism enables to reduce process energy loss due to the flowmeter obstruction. A digital signal processor for the purpose of the real time Fourier transform was employed for the fast time calculation of the flow velocity. The overall accuracy was found as about $1\%$ for flow velocities from 0.25 m/s up to 16 m/s and for the pipe inside diameters from 50mm to 248mm. The cross correlation technique can be used for the tap water utility including most common liquid flows.

  • This paper presents a new scheme of neural network controller to improve to improve the robustuous of robot manipulator using digital signal processors. Digital processors, DSPs, are micro-processors that are particularly developed for fast numerical computations involving sums and products of variables. Digital version of most advanced control algorithms can be defined as sums and producrs of measured variables, thus it can be programmed and executed through DSPs. In addition, DSPs are as fist in computation as most 32-bit micro-processors and yet at a fraction of their prices. These features make DSPs a viable computational tool in digital implementation of sophisticated controllers. During past decade it was proposed the well-established theorys for the adaptive control of linear systems, but there exits relativly little gensral theoral for the adaptive control of nonlinear systems. Perforating of the proposed controller is illustrated. This paper describes a new approach to the design of adaptive controller and implementation of real-time control for assembling robotic manipulator using digital signal processor.   • SeaBeam2000, a multibeam echo sounder, is a new generation seabed mapping system of which a single swath covers an angular range of -60.deg. to 60.deg. from the vertical direction with 121 beams. It provides high-density and high-quality bathymetric data along with sidescan acoustic data. The purpose of the research is to develop a system for processing multibeam underwater acoustic and bathymetric data using digital signal processing techniques. Recently obtained multibeam echo sounder data covering a survey area in the East Sea of Korea ($37{\circ}$.00'N to $37{\circ}$30'N and $129{\circ}$40'E to $130{\circ}$30'E) are preliminarily processed using the developed system and reproduced in the raster image format as well as three dimensionally visualized form.

  • In this paper, on-chp atomatic tuning circuit, using proposed integration level approximation technique, is designed to tuning of the variation of RC time-constant due to aging or temperature variation, etc. This circuit reduces the error, the difference between code values and real outputs of integrator, which is drawback of presented dual-slope tuning circuit and eliminates modulations of processing signals in integrated circuit due to fixed tuning codes during ordinary operation. This system is made up of simple integrator, A/D converter and digital control circuit and all capacitors are replaced by programed capacitor arrays in this system. This tuning circuit with 4 bit resolution achieves $-9.74{\sim}+9.68%$ of RC time constant error for 50% resistance variation.

  • This paper proposes an automatic genre classification system for Korean traditional music. The Proposed system accepts and classifies queried input music as one of the six musical genres such as Royal Shrine Music, Classcal Chamber Music, Folk Song, Folk Music, Buddhist Music, Shamanist Music based on music contents. In general, content-based music genre classification consists of two stages - music feature vector extraction and Pattern classification. For feature extraction. the system extracts 58 dimensional feature vectors including spectral centroid, spectral rolloff and spectral flux based on STFT and also the coefficient domain features such as LPC, MFCC, and then these features are further optimized using SFS method. For Pattern or genre classification, k-NN, Gaussian, GMM and SVM algorithms are considered. In addition, the proposed system adopts MFC method to settle down the uncertainty problem of the system performance due to the different query Patterns (or portions). From the experimental results. we verify the successful genre classification performance over $97{\%}$ for both the k-NN and SVM classifier, however SVM classifier provides almost three times faster classification performance than the k-NN.
