Basic Study on an Aftertreatment System of Diesel Particulate Matters with Electrostatic Precipitator and Cyclone (전기집진기와 사이클론을 응용한 디젤 입자상 물질의 후처리장치 기초연구)

  • An aftertreatment system of diesel exhaust gas was attempted to extract particulate matters. The system consisted of a corona-less electrostatic precipitator to agglomerate soot particles and a counter-flow cyclone to collect them. When the effect of high voltage was examined at different configuration of electrode plates, the case of positive 15kV at both plates showed the maximum reduction of 38% in diesel smoke level. However, the back pressure became quite high as engine speed increased, so that minimizing pressure drop in cyclone should be studied with improving collection efficiency of soot particles.

  • We designed and developed the burner which would be adapted on the burner type diesel particulate trap system. The burner type particulate trap system consists of burner system to regenerate to ceramic filter, ceramic filter canister, system controller and etc. Many design factors which affect the performance of the burner system were discussed. We also investigated burner characteristics according to the operating parameters. Burned gas temperature could be controlled better by the 2nd air flow rate than the 1st one. As the space velocity increases, the axial and radial temperature gradients in the filter decreases.

  • After-treatment apparatus ceramic DPF (diesel particulate filter) have been applied to reduce harmful particulate matters(PM) among emissions from diesel engines so far, but they are easy to be fragile and weak in thermal shock. This research aims to investigate a metal type filter which is superior in mechanical strength and heat conduction rate and is beneficial economically in manufacturing. Basic performance of metal DPF such asloading test, temperature gradient test, thermal shock test, heat resistant test and back pressure was carried out. And then their experimental data provided key informations in designing and manufacturing such as detailed structures of metal mesh filter. Also diesel engine and vehicle of 2957cc displacement was tested under lug-down 3 mode and CVS-75 mode. PM reduction efficiency was 54.5% using metal DPF without loss of performance and fuel consumption.

  • The proportion of diesel vehicle is very high in this country . PM and NOx emitted from diesel-posered vehicle is severely ;affecting to be air quality . Especially, diesel particulate matters(DPM) including black smoke are hazardous air pollutants to human health and environment. In order to reduce the exhaust emissions from diesel engines, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of exhaust emissions from diesel engines in various driving conditions. Recently, there are occasion to increase the fuel consumption rate to engine power up. So, in this study we have tested a diesel engine detached from in use -diesel vehicle and analyzed exhaust emission by driving condition and fuel dispersion rate. From this results, we will prepare the comprehensive management plan for exhaust emissions from diesel vehicles and contribute to the improvement of air pollution in urban area.

  • 디젤자동차는 가솔린 자동차에 비하여 연료소비효율(fuel economy)이 20-30% 정도 높고 고출력을 낼수 있어 이의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 본 고에서는 디젤자동차에서 배출되는 수많은 화학물질중에서 문제가 되고 있는 입자상물질, NOx 및 SO$_{2}$를 제거하는 기술에 대하여 살펴본다. 이러한 오염물질의 저감을 위하여는 배기가스 재순환, 분사시기의 조절, 인터쿨링 같은 연소기술의 개선과 유황분이 적고, 방향족화합물의 함량이 적은 청정연료를 사용하여 어느 수준까지는 목적을 달성할 수 있다. 1. 디젤자동차 배출허용기준. 2. 배기가스 정화기술. 2.1 트랩기술(trap technology). 2.2 재생기술(regeneration technology). 2.3 제어 및 센서기술(control and sensor technology)

  • 우리나라에서의 철도는 도로교통에 비해 수송분담율이 상대적으로 낮지만, 2001년을 기준으로 1년 동안 824만 명을 수송하여 전체 여객 수송량의 약 6.2 %를 차지하고 있다. 최근 연구결과 비도로용으로 사용되고 있는 디젤엔진이 NOx와 입자상 오염물질 배출의 주요한 오염원으로 밝혀졌다. 국내외적으로 대기오염원 중 자동차나 트럭 등 도로용 차량에서 배출되는 오염물질에 대해서는 오래 전부터 관심을 기울여 왔지만, 디젤기관차, 선박 및 경작, 건설, 벌목, 채굴 장비 등을 포함하는 비도로용 이동오염원에 의한 오염물질 배출제어에 관해서는 논의가 거의 이루어진 적이 없었다.   • Particulate matters(PM) have bad effect on the health. We carried out measurements of diesel PM under $10{\mu}m$ diameter from a HSDI diesel engine with a diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) by using the ELPI. This paper compares the two results of the smoke level and the PM level of masses and numbers. We also investigated the effect of the DOC. Under high speed and load, HSDI diesel engine exhausts much masses of particulate matters over 100nm diameter, and a number of PM from 7 to 100nm diameters at the same condition. DOC could reduce the total mass of the PM. However, the DOC could increase the number of ultra fine PM. Before light-off of the soot, the DOC absorb the PM and the DOC oxidize the PM after light-off temperature. The fine PM could be made during the oxidation. Therefore, the advanced DOC is needed to reduce the number of the fine PM.

  • It is important to determine the exact soot mass in a DPF system in order to control the timing of PM regeneration. The soot mass accumulated in a filter can be estimated from the pressure drop in the filter and the exhaust gas flow rates. In this study, the soot index is defined as the pressure drop in the DPF divided by the pressure drop in a DOC. An effective signal processing method for determining the soot index is proposed; the results yielded by this method indicate good correlation between the soot index and the amount of soot loaded into the filter for both steady-state and transient-state operating conditions in a 3L diesel engine for passenger vehicles.

  • Among aftertreatment devices which reduce exhaust gas of diesel engine, diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) with high reduction efficiency for gaseous matter and particulate matter is now being studied actively. In this study, an experiment was conducted to analyze the effects of low sulfur diesel fuel in heavy duty diesel engine equipped with DOC. We tested to estimate change of engine performance for the low and high sulfur diesel fuels in a 11,000cc diesel engine equipped with DOC. We conducted test to estimate the reduction efficiency of exhaust gas in D-13 mode of heavy duty diesel regulation mode and in smoke opacity mode for two samples of high sulfur content (0.2%) and low sulfur content(0.05%)
