Developing the Design Guideline of Auditory User Interface for Domestic Appliances (가전제품의 청각 사용자 인터페이스(AUI) 설계를 위한 가이드라인 개발 연구)

  • 본 연구는 가전제품의 제품군과 그 기능들에 따라 차별화 가능한 인지적, 감성적 '청각 사용자 인터페이스 디자인 가이드라인(Auditory User Interface Design Guideline)'을 마련하고, 가전제품의 작동기능 정보와 직관적으로 연합 가능한 청각신호(auditory signal)를 제작할 수 있는 지침을 제시하여 GUI 중심의 제품 설계에서 한 차원 확장되고 사용자의 다중감각적 특성이 적용된 디자인 방법을 실무에 적용하고자 하였다. 특히 AUI 에 대한 체계를 확립함으로써 브랜드 정체성(Brand Identity) 및 기업 이미지를 제고할 수 있다는 목적을 함께 고려하였다. 이러한 연구가 필요했던 이유는 가전제품에 대한 소비자의 심적 모형(mental model)과 감성 측면에서의 접근에 대한 요구 때문인데, 이는 AUI 의 체계적 적용이 아닌 임의적 연결(mapping)으로 인한 버저(buzzer) 청각신호의 짜증(annoying) 발생이 빈번한 사례들에서 출발한다. 또한 GUI 의 변화와 수준에 미치지 못하는 AUI 의 업그레이드 필요성과 가전제품에서의 감성 마케팅 경향을 반영하는 의미를 지니고 있다. 이와 함께 멀티미디어 환경의 급속한 확산으로 다중감각적 정보제시(multimodal display)가 요구되는 상황에 걸맞은 시도이다. 본 연구는 특정 가전제품이나 특정 기능이 지니고 있는 인지적, 감성적 차원의 속성을 청각신호(auditory signal)의 다양한 속성들로 유발하는 관계를 추출하고, 이를 형성하는 기본 메커니즘에 대한 경험적 자료를 제시하여, 가전제품의 AUI 디자인에 유용한 가이드라인을 제공하고자 하였다. 그러나 본 논문에서는 연구의 구체적이고 세부적인 결과보다는 전체적인 계획과 진행과정의 절차를 소개하여 관련분야 연구 진행의 참조적 틀을 마련하고자 한다.

  • To become a person that is suitable to the 'High-Touch' generation where emotion takes over, we can focus on 6 skill including design, story, harmony, empathy, play, and meaning. Among these skills, harmony with design was chosen as the most important skill. Design can be seen as the basic element of all business, but it will be difficult to match the flow of the future Sensibility and intuitive generation with just the modern design that has been made based on reasonable and objective information and knowledge. This study suggests system and standardization of Sensibility surface processing design that satisfies great quality, attractive quality and Sensibility quality by applying surface processing design of product and Sensibility cognitive factors felt by the consumer by setting differentiated strategy and CMF (Color, Material, Finishing) understanding along with the importance of design materials in primary aspect. By considering the efficacy/characteristic of new surface processing characteristic/differentiation/possibility of implementation according to setting direction of differentiated CMF strategy per type of parts applied to the product, visual surface processing sample was implemented. Through this, it is expected that practical communication connected tool and Sensibility surface processing design's strategic access framework can be applied by understanding and sharing comprehensive elements such as target product, part type, applied material, applied surface processing, surface color, surface texture, and implementing feeling to environments such as designers, CMF designers, surface processing experts, and engineers in IT, electronics, and other areas. when developing a product.

A Trend of Combining New Technology and Traditional Craft in Modem Japanese Industrial Textiles (일본 현대 산업직물에 나타난 신기술과 전통공예의 접목 경향)

  • In Japan, a country renowned for her traditional respect for handicraft, superior craft techniques have been transmitted from generation to generation. Modern Japanese textiles reinterprete these traditional techniques in a new light and combine them with modern technology, to make modern Japanese industrial textile both futuristic and traditional simultaneously. This combining of new technology and handicraft serves as a reservoir for a remarkable diversity and originality in the development of new technology and design, and constitutes an important trend in modern industrial textiles. The aim of this study is to investigate the developmental background of Japanese textile industry that championed this trend to make the Japanese development unique in modern textile industries and to consider the concept of modern textiles as well as the structural innovation as represented by this new trend, thus contributing to the development of creative textiles for the present and the future. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. The combining of new technology and traditional handicraft: 1) was made possible by Japanese consciousness that values traditional culture and by early recognition of advanced textile industry, which awarded new meaning and value to the traditional handicraft leading to an expanded social role for textiles. 2) helped construct a modern concept of textiles by pursuing textile media that are state-of-the-art, aesthetic, and highly sensitive to satisfy the requirements of modern industrial textile such as high quality, high performance, and high sensitivity. 3) enabled new design ideas and creation of new styles by implementing structural innovation in industrial textiles that involved diversification of expression, diversity in materials, and emphasis on texture. In short, by combining new technology and traditional handicraft, Japan came up with a new sense of aesthetics that is highly original and high level and with which the rest of the world can easily sympathize, thereby presenting one of the most important guiding principles for future textiles.

  • This study was initiated with the attention of demanding new and diverse approaches, we're talking familiar with imitations in the design process like a way to draw a image. So I studied a convergence of humanities and visual arts with the understanding and conceptual approach of the formless. The purpose of this study is to develop formless languages and to organize practical courses which are to enable deeper research and design expression on theoretical approaches and explanations of outcomes required before and after the process when we practice in connection with the formless. The method of this study is to draw detailed items from selected words through advanced researches, work and author researches and practice teaching. The results of the study I proposed the formless language that is related to the horizontality in spatial positioning system, and pulse in the separation of space and time, and entropy in structural orders of the system, and base materialism in the limitation of matter as the operating mechanism and parent item of formless. And those elements are related with shape, size, shading, color, texture, space, structure as visual elements of formative elements and those have various adjectival meanings as the subordinate concept. So I presented an education materials of basic design which is to enable understanding and expressing the formless language in the overall process of formless visual art(theoretical approach, practice course, presentation, etc.). Based on these study results, I hope that this educational materials will be used as educational contents that makes them express and understand different new beauties, and a role that reveals social identity, and a reference for research on a formless visual arts.

  • Recently, rapidly increasing internet Websites are providing us with the new kinds of multimedia informations without borders acting as the center for exchanging informations. Such new media informations through the internet passes informations via light on the monitor and provides the various informations, with the differentiation from the traditional printing media, it can be searched with electronic commands in limited space. In the process of adapting the new technologies, new media has successfully responded to the fast change and the development of its needs by experiencing the trials and errors, steadily establishing the stable position with its new information transferring and exchanging methods. The representative hompage of websites of information transformations means the first page containing no lower directories and consist of titles, icons, symbols and addresses and can design them in consideration of graphical process, planning, contents and others. Such hompages are very important since the graphical images shows its visual expressions deciding the total meanings of the hompages. In this research, we have analyzed the visual factors of frequencies, ratio of areas, distributions, alignment methodologies on layouts of hompages consisting titles, icons, contents and symbols, etc. from randomly picked samples of 161 hompages of websites in the internets of various areas. Generally, the homepages are designed with graphical expressions in personal way and the feedbacks and responses of such may differs, but we think, this can be used as reference materials for the analysis of new media in objective way. Also, it can be used as the base informations for arrangement and planning of designs with the characteristics of graphics and Graphic User Interfaces in the background which are implemented over internet.

An Empirical Analysis of Industrial Design′s Functional Role in the Causal Model of Quality Competitiveness : Korean Manufacturing Sector (품질경쟁력 인과모형 하에서 산업디자인의 기능적 역할에 관한 실증적 분석 : 한국 제조업 부문을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study are two the first is to identify the positioning of product design and analyze its functional relationship with product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales in the comprehensive competitiveness evaluation model ; and the second is to estimate the determinants of QCI(quality competitiveness index), analyze the impact of product design on QCI, and compare the aforementioned results for the seven industrial sectors and the five product patterns. For this empirical analysis, this study surveyed 400 Korean manufacturing firms during August-October 2003. The major empirical findings are summarized as follows : First, the hypothesis on the positive effect of product design on QCI is accepted at a highly significant level (p < 0.001) for all : the manufacturing sector, seven industrial sectors, and five product categories. Second, the correlation analysis and factor analysis lead to the result that the effect of product design on QCI is estimated to be relatively very low, in comparison to those of product functionality and basic performance on QCI. These findings imply that Korean manufacturing sector has been still in the prematured stage at which product design has not played an important role yet. This study concludes that product design in line with other functions (product development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales) should make a good contribution to the improvement of QCI in the future.

Comparative Analysis for Educational Puzzle Game Development (교육용 퍼즐 게임 개발을 위한 비교)

  • Since educational and fun elements coexist in an educational game, it is important to come up with standards that can elicit fun with the game as well as educational standards. Many of the existing developed educational games have received low marks in the characteristics of entertainment and game design. Thus, how to make up for their entertainment characteristics is important. This paper analyzes gaming elements of puzzle games that were released for smart phones and gained massive popularity from their users and will apply them to educational games. Such games that have gained popularity and won a commercial success include Anipang, Anipang 2, Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga and Pokopang. This study will analyze gaming elements of these games. By analyzing the educational games, it is applied to the game elements of casual games. In addition, we have proposed a element that can enhance the immersive. Game design elements that can improve entertainment characteristics include game rules, stages and missions. Elements that can increase immersion include items, background maps and new learning environments. This paper has significance in that it analyzes entertainment characteristics, which mean the fun of games through those that have been a commercial success and applies them to educational games.

A Study on the Jewelry decorative pattern based on Wa-Dang in Unified Silla period (통일신라시대 와당을 모티브로 한 주얼리장식용 문양 연구)

  • This study was conducted on the premise of the development of cultural products using relic assets of traditional culture in a knowledge and information society led by culture and soft power. It was conducted in the context of exploring the possibility of cultural content products of Wa-Dang relics excavated from traditional architecture in the Unified Silla Period and expanding the scalability of commercialization motifs that are highly useful in jewelry design. First, the original form, material, use, size, meaning, and formative aesthetics of Wa-Dang were identified through literature and media research. Among the considered Wa-Dang, 10 types of Wa-Dang which represent the category and have values in modules and patterns were selected, and, then, circular images were extracted and modularized with a "formal simplification technique." Based on the "mathematical symmetry analysis technique," which is a method of systematizing pattern composition arrangement format. we derived a planar formative element that can be used in the development of the cultural content industry and jewelry design. In order to expand its usability in the jewelry industry in the future, it was presented as a 2D digital image. In the future, we hope more studies on the various cultural content industry utilizing the traditional culture will be carried out.

  • 최근 뉴미디어 제품 디자인을 위한 텐저블 인터페이스(Tangible Interface)에 대한 연구 개발이 국내외에서 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 이는 미래 미디어에 있어서 텐저블 인터페이스가 매우 중요해진다는 점을 시사한다. 현재 텐저블 인터페이스의 연구는 아직 초기단계이며 기술에 대한 의미, 컨셉트, 방향 등이 점점 구체화 되어가고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 실감공간기술(Tangible Space Initiative)이 다양한 방향으로 개발될 수 있는 잠재가능성을 가지고 있다고 보고 현실의 사회상과 다양한 미래기술을 반영할 수 있는 SF영화에서 많은 아이디어를 얻을 수 있을 것이라 생각했다. 이에 본 연구는 영화에 나타난 실감공간기술과 유사한 디지털 인터페이스를 적용된 감각, 전달된 정보의 종류, 세부 기술, 실감공간기술의 세가지 기본 컨셉트(사람과 사물의 상호작용, 사람과 사람의 상호작용, 사람과 정보 사이의 상호작용), 그리고 미디어 이용 동기 등을 기준으로 분석하고 유형화 해 보고자 한다.

The Development and Features of Discussion about Community Design (커뮤니티디자인의 전개와 논의의 특징)

  • This study was prompted by the recognition that the tenn "Community design" has recently been used in diverse practical fields without prior discussion about its underpinnings, a potentially problematic state of affairs. Based on these problems, this study studied the special quality about the concept of community design. Community design can be discussed from two perspectives. The first views community design as a design that concerns the community, an inhabited area populated with people who have common interests, at least in part because of geographic proximity to each other. The second sees community design as a movement that started in the 1960s and places a great importance on democratic decision making, communication, and collaboration. This study will focus on the latter. This branch of community design encompasses an advocacy planning approach, in which design professionals represent deprived communities in their resistance against comprehensive redevelopment. This was associated to the wider social protest movements of the mid and late 1960s. In the 1970s, this branch of community design was developed alongside community design centers, which provided local-level technical assistance to the communities on a number of issues, such as design and planning. The discussion about community design started in earnest from the early 1980s. A review of the literature m community design reveals several characteristics. First, community design deals with the relationship between the physical environment and several aspects of a region, including the social and cultural. Second, it involves community participation, which many scholars believe is the core of community design. Specifically, community design has been characterized by increased participation and democratic debate and decision making. The Third is about communication methods. Since the 1960s, diverse methods had been developed to promote communication effectively. Finally, community design must consider the relationship between designers, who typically value aesthetics and efficiency of form, and the needs of the community with which they are working. Indeed, some scholars believe that this relationship is generally contentious, although the designer can also be thought of as the facilitator of the community's needs. As community design practice becomes more prevalent, a review of the foundation of institution and policy and the role of experts is also needed. The community design movement bas been theorized ex post facto through diverse discussion that has sought to ascribe meaning and direction to its practice. In other words, the relationship between this theory and practice is cyclical. Therefore, this study can contribute to the virtuous circle.
