  • This paper dealt with how realization of pauses in utterance is affected by speech style, gender, and generation. For this purpose, we analyzed the frequency and duration of pauses. Pauses were categorized into four types: pause with breath, pause with no breath, utterance medial pause, and utterance final pause. Forty-eight subjects living in Seoul were chosen from the Korean Standard Speech Database. All subjects engaged in reading and spontaneous speech, through which we could also compare the realization between the two speech styles. The results showed that utterance final pauses had longer durations than utterance medial pauses. It means that utterance final pause has a function that signals the end of an utterance to the audience. For difference between tasks, spontaneous speech had longer and more frequent pauses because of cognitive reasons. With regard to gender variables, women produced shorter and less frequent pauses. For male speakers, the duration of pauses with breath was significantly longer. Finally, for generation variable, older speakers produced more frequent pauses. In addition, the results showed several interaction effects. Male speakers produced longer pauses, but this gender effect was more prominent at the utterance final position.

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of twenties female caffeine addiction on cardiorespiratory capacity. For this study, we divided 35 female students at H university into caffeine addict group(n=17) and none caffeine addict group(n=18). Measure maximal oxygen uptake, maximal energy consumption and METs using Cycle Ergometer to assess cardiac capacity. Measure peak inspiratory pressure, peak inspiratory flow rate, peak inspiratory capacity, average inspiratory pressure, average inspiratory flow rate, average inspiratory capacity using Power Breathe K5 to assess respiratory capacity. As a result, cardiac capacity showed a statistically significant decrease in maximal oxgen uptake and METs compared caffeine addict group to none caffeine addict group(p<.001). respiratory capacity showed a statistically significant decrease in peak inspiratory pressure(p<.05), peak inspiratory flow rate(p<.01), average inspiratory pressure(p<.01), average inspiratory flow rate(p<.01), compared caffeine addict group to none caffeine addict group. Combining the results of the study, we could see that caffeine addiction reduces the cardiorespiratory capacity in twenties female. Therefore, it could be used as a basis date to prevent caffeine addiction for twenties female.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the exercise periods changes of the waist stabilization exercise on the inspiratory and expiratory pressure of stroke patients. Thirty-six stroke patients were divided into 17 lumbar stabilization group(LSEG) and 19 general exercise group(GPEG). In both groups, inspiratory and expiratory pressure using a respiratory pressure device was measured over 4 and 8 weeks. At maximal expiratory pressure, LSEG was significantly increased in Before, 4 weeks and 8 weeks according to the period, but there was no significant difference in GPEG in all periods. At maximal inspiratory presusre, there was no significant difference in LSEG between before-4 weeks and 4-8 weeks, but there was a significant increase in Before-8weeks. There was no significant difference in all periods of GPEG group. There was no significant difference in the amount of change between the two groups. In this study, it was found that the lumbar stabilization exercise was effective in improving the expiratory pressure in the stroke patients. If the stroke patient continues to lumbar stabilization exercise, it is also an effective method for inspiratory pressure. Future studies are expected to study individual respiratory muscle measurements after lumbar stabilization exercise.

  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide and the number of women breast cancer patient was increased continuously. Most of breast cancer patient has suffered from unnecessary radiation exposure to heart, lung. Low radiation dose to the heart could lead to the worsening of preexisting cardiovascular lesions caused by radiation induced pneumonitis. Also, several statistical reports demonstrated that left-sided breast cancer patient showed higher mortality than right-sided breast cancer patient because of heart disease. In radiation therapy, Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) technique which the patient takes a deep inspiration and holds during treatment and could move the heart away from the chest wall and lung, has showed to lead to reduction in cardiac volume and to minimize the unnecessary radiation exposure to heart during treatment. In this study, we investigated the displacement of heart using DIBH CT data compared to free-breathing (FB) CT data and radiation exposure to heart. Treatment planning was performed on the computed tomography (CT) datasets of 10 patients who had received lumpectomy treatments. Heart, lung and both breasts were outlined. The prescribed dose was 50 Gy divided into 28 fractions. The dose distributions in all the plans were required to fulfill the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurement specifications that include 100% coverage of the CTV with ${\geq}95%$ of the prescribed dose and that the volume inside the CTV receiving >107% of the prescribed dose should be minimized. Scar boost irradiation was not performed in this study. Displacement of heart was measured by calculating the distance between center of heart and left breast. For the evaluation of radiation dose to heart, minimum, maximum and mean dose to heart were calculated. The present study demonstrates that cardiac dose during left-sided breast radiotherapy can be reduced by applying DIBH breathing control technique.

  • Purpose: This study examined changes in the position of the heat and lungs depending on the patient's breathing method during left breast cancer radiotherapy and used treatment plans to compare the resulting radiation dose. Materials and methods: The participants consisted of 10 patients with left breast cancer. A CT simulator(SIMENS SOMATOM AS, Germany) was used to obtain images when using three different breathing methods: free breathing(FB), deep inspiration breath hold(DIBH with Abches, DIBH), inspiration breath hold(IBH with CPAP, CPAP). A Ray Station(5.0.2.35, Sweden) was used for treatment planning, the treatment method was volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) with one partial arc of the same angle, and the prescribed dose to the planning target volume (PTV) was a total dose of 50Gy(2Gy/day). In treatment plan analysis, the 95% dose (D95) to the PTV, the conformity index(CI), and the homogeneity index (HI) were compared. The lungs, heart, and left anterior descending artery (LAD) were selected as the organs at risk(OARs). Results: The mean volume of the ipsilateral lung for FB, DIBH, and CPAP was 1245.58±301.31㎤, 1790.09±362.43 ㎤, 1775.44±476.71 ㎤. The mean D95 for the PTV was 46.67±1.89Gy, 46.85±1.72Gy, 46.97±23.4Gy, and the mean CI and HI were 0.95±0.02, 0.96±0.02, 0.95±0.02 and 0.91±0.01, 0.90±0.01, 0.92±0.02. The V20 of Whole Lung was 10.74±4.50%, 8.29±3.14%, 9.12±3.29% and The V20 of the ipsilateral lung was 20.45±8.65%, 17.18±7.04%, 18.85±7.85%, the Dmean of the heart was 7.82±1.27Gy, 6.10±1.27Gy, 5.67±1.56Gy, and the Dmax of the LAD was 20.41±7.56Gy, 14.88±3.57Gy, 14.96±2.81Gy. The distance from the thoracic wall to the LAD was measured to be 11.33±4.70mm, 22.40±6.01mm, 20.14±6.23mm. Conclusion: During left breast cancer radiotherapy, the lung volume was 46.24% larger for DIBH than for FB, and 43.11% larger for CPAP than FB. The larger lung volume increases the distance between the thoracic wall and the heart. In this way, the LAD, which is one of the nearby OARs, can be more effectively protected while still satisfying the treatment plan. The lung volume was largest for DIBH, and the distance between the LAD and thoracic wall was also the greatest. However, when performing treatment with DIBH, the intra-fraction error cannot be ignored. Moreover, communication between the patient and the radiotherapist is also an important factor in DIBH treatment. When communication is problematic, or if the patient has difficulty holding their breath, we believe that CPAP could be used as an alternative to DIBH. In order to verify the clinical efficacy of CPAP, it will be necessary to perform long-term follow-up of a greater number of patients.

  • In order to learn the emission characteristics of hazardous pollutants associated with environmental tobacco smoking (ETS), we measured the concentrations of major aromatic VOC and carbonyl compounds released from ETS. By acquiring the different smoke types of ETS, we were able to determine that the concentrations of those species range from ppb (normal exhaled air of smoker prior to smoking) to ppm levels (direct release of ETS without filter). Using these measurement data, we also evaluated the body-retaining rate of these compounds as the result of ETS. The results of our analysis indicated that predominant portion of them (e.g., > 99%) are retained as the result of cigarette smoking. To learn more about the potential impact of ETS, more extensive study may be required to assess the gross picture of pollutant deposition inside respiratory intake and their health-effects.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to find what effects both the posture of sitting and standing and the ratio of inhalation and exhalation (I/E) have on heart rate variability (HRV) Methods: We made two breathing sets with 4:6 or 6:4 ratios of I/E at 0.1 Hz of respiratory frequency and sitting or standing position. There was 20 minute-rest between sets. Each set include 5 minute-3 breathings as follows: 0.1Hz paced breath with sitting, usual breathing with standing and 0.1Hz paced breath with standing. Five minute-usual breathings with sitting as basal lines were exerted before and after these 3 breaths. Electrocardiogram-recording was exerted from 73 healthy participants (37 men and 36 women) who carried out two sets of breathings. Finally, HRV indices were analyzed of 62 participants (32 men and 30 women). Results: In 4:6 maintaining the same posture, SDNN were statistically increased, while mean heart rate(HR) were not changed. In 6:4, mean HR, SDNN were statistically increased. When changed from sitting to standing, in 4:6, SDNN were statistically decreased and mean HR was increased. However, in 6:4 during change of posture, SDNN were also statistically decreased and mean HR was statistically decreased. There was no statistical change of HF during 4:6 or 6:4 ratios of I/E moving from sitting to standing position. Conclusions: For increasing HRV, breathing in low respiratory rate with sitting was recommended regardless of ratio of I/E. In changing from sitting to standing, 4:6 may increase mean HR, and 6:4 may decrease mean HR.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the Compare the effects of inspiratory muscle strengthening training and expiratory muscle strengthening training of normal adult respiratory function. Method : In this study, we want to compare the effect of inspiratory muscle strengthening training(n=8) and expiratory muscle strengthening training(n=8) to target the normal adult 16 people. expiratory muscle strengthening training, was 25 minutes of training on the basis of the breathing image program that has been pre-recorded. inspiratory muscle strengthening training, use the power-breathe plus on the measured resistance value, was carried out for 25 minutes. Using the spirometer in order to examine the ability to breathe, FVC, FEV1, FEV1 / FVC, MVV was measured. Result : The results showd that in the breath muscle strengthening training FVC, FEV1, MVV increased statistically significantly. The inspiration muscle strength training FVC, FEV1, MVV was a statistically significant increase, FEV1/FVC decreased. There was no statistically significant difference between. Conclusion : In conclusion, both methods give the result of increasing the effective respiratory function. Inspiratory muscle strengthening training, the function of the lung is very limited to be used when and by us effectively and expiratory muscle strengthening training to increase the capacity of the lung is an effective way that will increase the volume.
