  • The theoretical calculations for $B_nH_n$, $B_nH_{n+1}$, $B_nH_{n+2}$ (n = 3-6) have been considered at the B3LYP level of theory with the 6-311G$^*$ basis set. The optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and binding energies are evaluated to elucidate the thermodynamic stability and spectroscopic properties. The harmonic vibrational frequencies for the molecules considered in this study show all real numbers implying true minima and the binding energies are corrected using zero-point vibrational energies (ZPVE). The binding energies and average energies due to increasing of BH monomer are predicted.

  • In manufacturing the crack-free carbonized boards using fiberboards, shrinking ratio, weight loss and density variation of carbonized boards at each carbonization temperature were investigated. Fiberboards with thickness of 3, 4.5, 6, and 18 mm were carbonized while pressed with pressure plates at different temperature from $400^{\circ}C$ to $1,000^{\circ}C$ using a ordinary laboratory furnace. Either of crack or twist was not observed in fiberboards by adapting the pressing carbonization method. The ratios of shrinkage of length, width, and thickness were 10~25%, 12~25%, and 28~48%, respectively, and shrinkage ratio of thickness was higher than those of length and width with increasing the carbonization temperature. Weight loss tended to increase with increasing the carbonization temperature, but low correlation between weight loss in thickness of fiberboards and carbonization temperature was observed. Density of 3 mm carbonized hardboard had the highest value and it tended to increase with increasing the carbonization temperature.

  • This paper presents a matrix analysis to get the torsional behavior of core structures with torsional reinforcements. Based on simplified assumptions, formulae for the forces and displacements of cote structures subjected to three typical load cases, i.e. uniformly distributed torque, triangularly distributed torque and a concentrated torque at the top of the structure, are derived analytically. The behavior of the cote according to the variation of reinforcement locations is investigated to estimate the optimum locations of reinforcements to minimize the core rotations and bimoments. The results by the program MIDAS-GEN have shown that this analysis can give quite satisfactory results for structural models with torsional reinforcements. Although three dimensional analysis by computer has come within reach as a normal structural design procedure, its use as an optimization tool may not be desirable in view of the expense and time required. Formulae that we presented here can be used to estimate the torsional rotations and forces of practical cote structures at the preliminary design stages.

  • The quality of polymeric automotive parts depends highly on an injection molding process, which causes various defects, such as warpage, sink marks, weld lines, shrinkage, residual stress, etc. This study is to determine the optimum processing parameters, such as packing pressure, mold temperature, melting temperature, and packing time for the manufacture of polycarbonate buttons in cars on the basis of FEM, the Taguchi method, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). As a result, the optimum processing parameters of buttons made of polycarbonate material were obtained as follows: 140 MPa of packing pressure, $105^{\circ}C$ of mold temperature, $292.5^{\circ}C$ of melting temperature and 1 second of packing time. A gain of S/N (signal to noise) ratio, 10.2, was obtained with the optimum values. Moreover, the melting temperature was found to be the most significant factor followed by the mold temperature.

  • When curing the composite, the fibers have little thermal deformation, but the resin changes its properties with time and temperature, which leads to residual stress in the product. Residual stress is caused by the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the fibers and resin during the curing process and the chemical shrinkage of the resin. This difference causes thermal deformation such as spring-in and warpage. Thermal deformation of composite structure is important issue on quality of product, and it should be considered in manufacturing process. In this study, a subroutine was developed to predict thermal deformation by applying 3-D viscoelastic model. The finite element analysis was verified by comparing the results of the plate analysis of the 2-D viscoelastic model. Spring-in of L-shaped structure was predicted and analyzed by applying the 3-D viscoelastic model.

  • This paper proposes a new 2MVA SSFG(Sag Swell Flicker Generator) injecting voltage by using series inverter. The proposed SSFG composes series inverter, DC capacitor as energy storage, rectifier and voltage clamp circuit. This SSFG is designed to generate typical power disturbances, such as voltage sag/swell, over/under voltage and voltage flicker. Also it is designed to generate unexpected voltage phase jumping waveform by controlling the series inverter. In this paper, three kinds of control methods for the proposed 2MVA SSFG we investigated by PSIM simulation. Also typical voltage sag, swell, flicker waveforms are implemented by adopting effective control method.

  • Insert injection molding is a process in which molten plastic is injected into a mold that contains a pre-placed insert. During the injection stage, the insert can be deformed by the pressure applied by the polymer melts. The deformation of the insert changes the width of the flow path around the insert, which can cause several defects such as short shots or warpages of the parts. In order to reduce the deformation of the insert, it is important to achieve successful design of gating system, insert geometry, and molding conditions. In the present study, the insert deformations that occured during the injection molding of the BLDC motor stator were investigated by numerical analyses. The gate location and the insert shape were modified to reduce the insert deformation. Finally, the injection molding with the modified designs was carried out, and it was confirmed that the insert deformation was reduced.

  • Tibial eminence fracture is caused by distortion, excessive flexion and extension, varus and valgus injury of the knee joint in the form of avulsion fracture. A failure over the exact anatomical reduction of fragment can lead to instability and limitation of joint motion. Recently, a variety of arthroscopic assisted reduction and fixation technique have been used. In the tibial eminence fracture, we created an arthroscopic pull-out wire fixation technique using a cannulated screw that is easy and more convenient than in the conventional technique. So we report this technique with a review of current literatures.

  • Carbon material was used for the new module-type bicycle accessory focusing on the user convenience through service design methodology. In the case of using the existing carbon material, the impact could not be endured while riding the bicycle and there was the case of breaking. To resolve this kind of problem, the new type of material (S Foam Core material) was applied. The intensity, twist intensity, shock absorbing power, and vibration were measured for the existing carbon material and the S Foam Core material. As a result, the S Foam Core material showed more outstanding results than the existing carbon material. This study produced prototype with the S Foam Core material to verify the performance through tests and report the result.

  • Various underground facilities are being constructed to improve the urban environment. Therefore, it is more necessary than ever to reasonably evaluate the seismic response of underground utility tunnels, playing a significant part in urban infrastructure. In this study, the major features and differences of two types of existing pseudo-static analysis methods are reviewed. Each method uses a simplified 2D frame model to represent the seismic behavior of underground structures. Applying each method to a one-barrel rectangular utility tunnel in Korea, the suitability in predicting seismic responses, especially the racking deformation of the tunnel, is examined. In addition, several precautions and suggestions are provided in this study against the inattentive application of the methods to seismic evaluation of underground structures.
