  • The primary sequence of the 18S rRNA gene of a crustacean Pugettia quadridens (Decapoda: Pleocyemata: Brachyura) was determined by the PCR cloning and Taq sequencing. The 18S rRNA gene of this species in 1837 bases long, and 46 bases shorter than that of another crustacean decapod Oedignathus inermis. The similarity between two species is 90.8% when the insertion and/or deletion sites were excluded. Within the molecule, the most conservative (identical) region locates at the position of 1137-1206 and it is 70 bases long. The most long consecutive nucleotide differences occur at the position between 46-55 and the second most between 399-407. The sequence variation in the primary structure of 18S rRNA gene are not evenly distributed throughout the molecule.

We researched sixty-two patients of urticaria who had visited the Dept of Dermatology Oriental medical hospital Dongeui universty from January 2002 to April 2004 and had taken the Oriental herb medicine as Sungmagalguntanggamibang (SGT, 升摩葛根湯加味方) for verification of voluntariness of Korean Oriental medical treatment. In our time, urticaria is tending upwards, consequently the air pollution by industrialization, patronizing of convenience food by simplification of dietary life, stress and an abuse of medicine. Especially in case of chronic urticaria we're under going hardships in elimination of it's symptoms, because it's prognosis is inferior. We inspect the effects of SGT from various viewpoints and meet with following results. Results: 1. AS amount of taking the SGT increase, the effect in taking SGT period and the condition of present time become more satisfactory. 2. As continuous Time of urticaria decrease, the effect in taking SGT period become more satisfactory. 3. Etiology of urticaria is classified into the deficiency both of qi-blood(氣血兩虛), the moisture-heat of spleen-stomach(脾胃濕熱), the heat of blood(血熱), The wind-cold(風寒), The wind-heat(風熱), spleen-stomach accumulated heat(腸胃實熱) ect. The SGT is available in this order. 4. The effect in taking SGT period connects the quality of life of after treatment and the quality of life of after treatment is improved comparing with that of before treatment. • Objectives The purpose of this study was to find out whether there were differences of urticaria's disease aspect between patients classified into Sasang Constitution Types(SCTs) and whether those differences could be associated with Ordinary symptoms. Methods Medical records and questionnaires about 117 patients who visited one Korean medicine hospital due to urticaria were collated and statistically analyzed. Results 1) Ages 20 to 30, women, Soeumin(SE) and patients in conditions of chronic urticaria over 6 weeks were the majority among 117 patients in this study. Food and stress were most chosen as the main cause of urticaria. 2) Soyangin(SY) showed more severe symptoms of urticaria than other SCTs. In particular, the severity of pruritus, distribution of lesions and vulnerability to stress was statistically significant compared to other SCTs(p<0.05). SE expressed urticaria's symptoms at the medium-level of SY's and Taeeumin(TE)'s. TE exhibited relatively weak symptoms but TE only had slightly higher number of patients with angioedema compared to other SCTs. Taeyangin(TY) was only one case so more researches are needed. 3) In dispositional symptoms, SY had low quality of sleep and defecation. SE could not digest oily food well, felt dizzy and cold well, and had cold hands and feet. TE could eat and sweat much and tended to snore well. Conclusions In this study, urticaria had common cause of both stress and food in all SCTs but onset and severity of symptoms were different between SCTs. It could interpreted that these differences between SCTs were associated with ordinary symptoms native to each SCT.

  • A bedridden patients, elderly people, and dementia who are subject to special care at a medical institution can not handle the feces themselves and need the help of a guardian or care-giver. In particular, toxic substances are contained in the stools, which can cause eczema, dermatitis and urticaria, so it is important to replace diapers. In this paper, we propose a wearable device design for the detection of excretions in consideration of the various excretion requirements of the elderly. The device is a form in which a module are attached to an adult diaper used in a nursing hospital to detect excreta, and the presence or absence of a wearer can be confirmed by an LED. The measured data is transmitted to the smartphone app in real time via Bluetooth in the module and can be checked for popup notification. The validity of this study was verified by comparing the actual excretion with the data collected through the designed module.

  • Objective: This study was designed to investigate clinical features of chronic urticaria and assess Korean traditional medical therapy on that. Methods: The ratio of male and female, duration of symptoms, personal history and family history of allergic diseases, serum IgE level, and suspected causes and provocation factors were investigated in 41 patients with chronic urticaria. And frequency of wheals, duration of wheals, number of wheals, itch severity, and antihistamine counts of 6-point(0-5) score was assessed in 26 patients. The change of total scores between baseline and follow up were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed-rank test(p〈0.05). Results: 1. The ratio of male and female was 1:1.28 and the mean duration of symptoms was 26.0 months. 2. The frequency of personal history and family history of allergic diseases was each 53.7$\%$ and 48.8$\%$ and 30.6$\%$ had over 200 IU/mL serum IgE level. 3. The suspected causes were none(43.9$\%$), foods(29.3$\%$), drugs(9.8$\%$) and stress(7.3$\%$). 4. The suspected provocation factors were foods(39.0$\%$), none(19.5$\%$), fatigue(17.0$\%$), heat and sweating(l4.6$\%$), pressure(12.2$\%$) and stress(9.8). 5. The total scores between baseline and follow up of 26 patients was lowered from 14.85${\pm}$3.80 to 7.65${\pm}$4.31 and it was significant statistically. Conclusions: Korean traditional medical therapy was proved to be effective on the chronic urticaria and we need to consider foods as important factor in both treatment and patient education of urticaria.

  • Objective : To investigate syndrome identification, herbal prescriptions, acupuncture point and other treatment, this study systematically reviewed case studies on Korean medicine (KM) treatment for urticaria. Method : Literature searches were performed on four Korean database; OASIS, RISS, KTKP and NDSL. Studies published before December 2022 were categorized and analyzed according to the herbal prescriptions. Results : Thirty-three studies including 16 case series and 17 single case reports were included in our review and the total number of patients was 523. Ancient prescriptions (古方) were used in 7 studies and prescriptions of Sasang constitutions were used in 8 studies and 18 studies used prescriptions of posterity (後世方). Wind-Heat (風熱) and syndrome identifications associated with digestive function were used frequently. Nineteen studies used acupuncture combined with herbal medicine and mainly used acupoints were ST36 (足三里), LI4 (合谷), LI11 (曲池), LR3 (太衝), SP6 (三陰交), CV12 (中脘), SP10 (血海). External herbal medicine was used in only 3 studies. Conclusion : To increase the cure rate of KM, various prescriptions should be used according to the symptom and stage of urticaria. Diversification of herbal formulations and the development of new external medicines are also necessary to conduct additional clinical studies with a high level of evidence.
