The gudgeon, Microphysogobio tungtingensis uchidai, originally described by Banarescu and Nalbant in 1973 is reduced to a junior synonym of M. yaluensis based on the 5 type specimens in the USNM. Confusion on the taxonomic position of Microphysogovbio t. uchidai seems to have resulted from the inadequate description of the papillae of the upper lip and the reference to the small specimens.

To verify the validity of Hemiculter eigenmanni (Jordan and Metz, 1913), we conducted morphological analysis on two syntypes of Hemiculter leucisculus (Basilewsky, 1855) and holotype of H. eigenmanni. Although some morphological differences were recognized between two nominal type specimens, it is concluded intraspecific or geographic variation through comparison with many specimens collected from Korea. Previously suggested synonymy between H. leucisculus and H. eigenmanni was reconfirmed, therefore the latter becomes a junior synonym of the former.

Korean bitterling Acanthorhodeus gracilis Regan, 1908 is very similar to Acheilognathus chankaensis (Dybowski, 1872) having 12~14 dorsal fin rays, 10~11 anal fin rays and 35~36 lateral line scales. By analyzing these specimens and original descriptions, diagnostic characteristics of the genus Acanthorhodeus were included in the genus Acheilognathus and Acanthorhodeus gracilis was defined as a junior synonym of Acheilognathus chankaensis. The provisional keys are provided for identifying the nine species of Acheilognathus from Korea.

Watersipora subovoidea (d'Orbigny, 1852) from Korea is synonymous with Watersipora subtorquata (d'Orbigny, 1842), which shows a wide range of variation in the width of zooecium and orifice. Watersipora platypora n. sp. which was previously known as Dakaria bidentata and Watersipora arcuata in Korea is reported to be new species.

v. Martens(1905)은 국내 다슬기과 담수패류를 모두 1속 15종 및 3아종으로 기록하였다. 그 후 많은 학자들에 의하여 형태 및 분류에 대한 연구를 시도하여 근래에 이르러 한국산 다슬기과 담수패류는 3속 7종 및 1아종(Choi ＆. Yoon, 1997), 3속 6종 및 1아종(Kwon et al, 2001)으로 정리하고 있다. 다슬기과 패류는 서식지에 따른 형태 변이가 매우 심하고, 또한 v.Martens(1905)에 의하여 발표된 18종의 동종이명 정리에 대한 국내외 학자간의 견해 차이가 정리되어 있지 않아 현재까지도 정확한 종 동정과 분류가 난해한 분류군인다. (중략)

Available information on the family Gobiidae of Korea is summarized from the literatures and specimens collected during the period from 1980-1985 in the southern part of Korea. Thirty three species belonging to 23 genera were identified from 73 localities in Korea, and among them 3 species are reported for the first time from Korea with their description and illustrations: Micropercops dabryi borealis Nichols, 1930, Acentrogobius masago (Tomiyama, 1936), and Apocryptodon madurensis (Bleeker, 1849). Both Luciogobius grandis Arai and Mugilogobius abei (Jordan et Snyder) previously recorded in Korea, but not included in the list by Chong, 1977 are included in this list. Rhinogobius bedfordi is considered a junior synonym of R. brunneus. The occurrence of Acanthogobius ommaturus and Gobius caninus from Korea are open to question for lack of evident records. The family of Gobiidae of Korea includes 46 species belonging to 30 genera which are divided into four subfamilies, Eleotrinae, Gobiinae, Gobionollinae, and Tridentigerinae by Miller in 1973. A key to genera is provided together with synonymies, distributions and materials observed for the gobiid fishes of Korea.

Taxonomic revision of the family Engraulidae was conducted based on the specimens collected from the coasts of Korean Peninsula from 1990 to 1995. Seven species representing four genera are reviewed, and provisional keys to the species and genera are provided with synonyms and their distributions. Thryssa adelae (Rutter, 1897) newly reported from Korea is redescribed in this paper. Thryssa kammalensis (Bleeker, 1849) is a synonym of Thryssa koreana or Thryssa chefuensis. Setipinna tenuifilis (Valenciennes, 1848) is proposed as a replacement name for Setipinna taty, Thryssa adelae (Rutter, 1897) for Thryssa mystax and Thryssa purava, Coilia nasus Schlegel 1846 for Coilia ectenes. Most species of clupeoid fishes in Korea are shared with Chinese and Japanese faunas including tropical and temperature species without endemics.

Three species of Epipleminae: Europlema nubifasciaria (Leech), Dysaethria meridiana (Inoue), and Phazaca theclata ($Guen{\acute{e}}e$), are reported for the first time from Korea. Europlema leleji Sinev turns out to be a new synonym of Epiplema nubifasciaria Leech and the latter is newly combined to the genus Europlema. Its female genitalia are first described. This is the first record of Europlema for the Korean fauna. Photos of adults and genitalia are provided for the treated species.

Electrophoretic method is and morphometric analysis were used to examine genetic and phenetic variation among 16 populations of Rhabdophis tigrina and to clarify the subspecific status of R.t.tigrina and R.t. lateralis in Korea. The degree of genic variation based on 23 presume loci was moderate and was similar to those found for other vertebrates. Interpopulation levels of genic differentiation were slight for all populations studied and overall genetic similarities were =0.970. The number of ventral and subcaudal scales showed clinal variation with increasing tendency in numbers toward south . Discriminant function analysis based on six morphometric characters revealed that there were no morphometric differentiation between two subspecies, therefore it was concluded that they were same taxon and R.t. lateralis (Berthold, 1859) should be treated as synonym of R. t. tigrina(Boie, 1826)
