An Illumination and Background-Robust Hand Image Segmentation Method Based on the Dynamic Threshold Values (조명과 배경에 강인한 동적 임계값 기반 손 영상 분할 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a hand image segmentation method using the dynamic threshold values on input images with various lighting and background attributes. First, a moving hand silhouette is extracted using the camera input difference images, Next, based on the R,G,B histogram analysis of the extracted hand silhouette area, the threshold interval for each R, G, and B is calculated on run-time. Finally, the hand area is segmented using the thresholding and then a morphology operation, a connected component analysis and a flood-fill operation are performed for the noise removal. Experimental results on various input images showed that our hand segmentation method provides high level of accuracy and relatively fast stable results without the need of the fixed threshold values. Proposed methods can be used in the user interface of mixed reality applications.

Design Mobility Agent Module for Healthcare Application Service (헬스케어 응용 서비스를 위한 Mobility Agent 모듈 설계)

  • The sensor network for the health care application service has the man or movable object as the main sensing object. In order to support inter-node interaction by the movement of such sensing objects, the node's dynamic function modification, dynamic self-configuration and energy efficiency must be considered. In this paper, the Agilla model which supports the dynamic function modification through the agent migration between nodes and LEACH protocol which guarantees the dynamic self-configuration and energy efficiency through the configuration of inter-node hierarchical cluster configuration are analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, the Mobility Agent Middleware which supports the dynamic function modification between nodes is designed, and LEACH_Mobile protocol which guarantees the node nobility as the weakness of the existing LEACH protocol is suggested. Also, the routing module which supports the LEACH_Mobile protocol is designed and the interface for conjunction with Mobility Agent Middleware is designed. Then, it is definitely increase performance which un mobility node of transfer data rate through LEACH_Mobile protocol of simulation result.

An Implementation of Cutting-Ironbar Manufacturing Software using Dynamic Programming (동적계획법을 이용한 철근가공용 소프트웨어의 구현)

  • In this paper, we deal an implementation of the software that produces sub-optimal solution of cutting-ironbar planning problem using dynamic programming. Generally, it is required to design an optimization algorithm to accept the practical requirements of cutting ironbar manufacturing. But, this problem is a multiple-sized 1-dimensional cutting stock problem and Linear Programming approaches to get the optimal solution is difficult to be applied due to the problem of explosive computation and memory limitation. In order to overcome this problem, we reform the problem for applying Dynamic Programming and propose a cutting-ironbar planning algorithm searching the sub-optimal solution in the space of fixed amount of combinated columns by using heuristics. Then, we design a graphic user interfaces and screen displays to be operated conveniently in the industry workplace and implement the software using open-source GUI library toolkit, GTK+.

  • In the mobile device environment, the context-aware computing has been emerging as a core technology of ubiquitous computing. Compared with a desktop computer, a user interface and resource of mobile device is very limited. Traditional desktop-based user interface has been developed on the basis that a user's activity is static state. In contrast, mobile devices are not able to utilize representative desktop-based interaction mechanisms such as a keyboard and mouse, not only because the activity of a user is dynamic state, but mobile devices have limited resources and small LCD display. In this paper, we introduce an intelligent control system for the mobile device that can utility effectively the limited resource and complement the poor user interface by using an accelerometer being able to sense the physical activity and posture. The proposed system can estimate the user activity, static and dynamic states, and posture watching the PDA at the same time, and the proposed intelligent control system as its application, the backlight ON/OFF on the PDA, is run by the result of the user's behavior.

3D Virtual Reality Game with Deep Learning-based Hand Gesture Recognition (딥러닝 기반 손 제스처 인식을 통한 3D 가상현실 게임)

  • The most natural way to increase immersion and provide free interaction in a virtual environment is to provide a gesture interface using the user's hand. However, most studies about hand gesture recognition require specialized sensors or equipment, or show low recognition rates. This paper proposes a three-dimensional DenseNet Convolutional Neural Network that enables recognition of hand gestures with no sensors or equipment other than an RGB camera for hand gesture input and introduces a virtual reality game based on it. Experimental results on 4 static hand gestures and 6 dynamic hand gestures showed that they could be used as real-time user interfaces for virtual reality games with an average recognition rate of 94.2% at 50ms. Results of this research can be used as a hand gesture interface not only for games but also for education, medicine, and shopping.

Formal Semantics for Lambda Expression of Java (자바 람다식에 대한 형식 의미론)

  • Specifying the semantic structure for functional interfaces and lambda expressions, which are the latest features of Java, can be referenced when designing similar functions in the future, and is also required in the process of standardizing or implementing an optimized translator. In this study, action equation 3.0 is newly proposed to express the static and dynamic semantic structure of functional interfaces and lambda expressions by modifying and upgrading the existing expressions to express the semantic structures of java functional interfaces and lambda expressions. Measure the execution time of java programs by implementing the semantic structure specified in action equation 3.0 in java, and prove that action equation 3.0 is a real semantic structure that can be implemented through simulation. The superiority of this action equation 3.0 is to be confirmed by comparing the action equation 3.0 specified in the four areas of readability, modularity, extensibility and flexibility with the existing representative semantic expression methods.

  • 최근 들어 햅틱 분야는 디지털 콘텐츠를 만질 수 있게 촉감을 제공함으로써 의학, 교육, 군사, 엔터테인먼트, 방송 분야 등에서 널리 연구되고 있다. 그러나 햅틱 분야가 사용자에게 시청각 정보와 더불어 추가적인 촉감을 제공함으로써 보다 실감 있고 자연스러운 상호작용을 제공하는 등 여러 가지 장점을 가진 것에 비해 아직은 일반 사용자들에게 생소한 분야다. 그 이유 중 하나로 촉감 상호작용이 가능한 콘텐츠의 부재를 들 수 있다. 또한 최근에 가상환경(Virtual Environment, VR)에 관심이 증가 되고, 가상환경에 햅틱이라는 기술을 접목시키는 시도가 많이 일어나고 있어서, 촉감 모델링에 대한 욕구 또한 증대 되고 있다. 일반적으로 촉감 모델링은 Material properties를 가지고 있는 그래픽 모델들로 구성이 된다. 그래픽 모델링은 일반적인 모델링툴 (MAYA, 3D MAX, 기타 등)으로 할 수 있다. 하지만 촉감 관련된 촉감 모델들은 콘텐츠를 제작한 이후에 일일이 수작업으로 넣어 주어야 한다. 그래픽 모델링에서는 사용자가 직접 눈으로 확인 하면서 작업을 이루어 지기 때문에 직관적으로 이루어질 수 있다. 이와 비슷하게 촉감 모델링은 직관적인 모델링을 하기 위해서 사용자가 직접 촉감을 느껴 보면서 진행이 되어야 한다. 또한 그래픽 모델링과 촉감 모델링이 동시에 진행이 되지 않기 때문에 촉감 콘텐츠를 만드는데 시간이 많이 걸리게 되고 직관적이지 못하는 단점이 있다. 더 나아가서 이런 촉감 모델링을 포함한 모델링 높은 생산성을 위해서 신속히 이루어져야 한다. 이런 이유들 때문에 촉감 모델링을 위한 새로운 인터페이스가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 촉감 상호작용이 가능한 촉감 콘텐츠를 직관적으로 생성하고 조작할 수 있게 하는 촉감 모델러를 기술한다. 촉감 모델러에서 사용자는 3 자유도 촉감 장치를 사용하여 3 차원의 콘텐츠 (정적 이거나 동적이거나 Deformation이 가능한 2D, 2.5D, 3D Scene)를 실시간으로 만져보면서 생성, 조작할 수 있는 촉감 사용자 인터페이스 (Haptic User Interface, HUI)를 통해서 콘텐츠의 표면 촉감 특성을 직관적으로 편집할 수 있다. 촉감 사용자인터페이스는 마우스로 조작하는 기존의 2 차원 그래픽 사용자 인터페이스를 포함하여 3 차원으로 사용자 인터페이스도 추가되어 있고 그 형태는 촉감 장치로 조작할 수 있는 버튼, 라디오버튼, 슬라이더, 조이스틱의 구성요소로 이루어져있다. 사용자는 각각의 구성요소를 조작하여 콘텐츠의 표면 촉감 특성 값을 바꾸고 촉감 사용자 인터페이스의 한 부분을 만져 그 촉감을 실시간으로 느껴봄으로써 직관적으로 특성 값을 정할 수 있다. 또한, XML 기반의 파일포맷을 제공함으로써 생성된 콘텐츠를 저장할 수 있고 저장된 콘텐츠를 불러오거나 다른 콘텐츠에 추가할 수 있다. 이러한 시스템은 햅틱이라는 분야를 잘 모르는 사람들도 직관적으로 촉감 모델링을 하는데 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

Design and Implementation of an Adaptive User Interface for Home Network Environments (홈 네트워크 환경을 위한 적응형 사용자 인터페이스 설계 및 구현)

  • With the growing proliferation of mobile computing devices, several industrial and academic research groups have a vigorous studying to remote control for various appliances with mobile devices such as Notebooks, PDAs, and Smartphones in home network environments. We can utilize the good points of mobile devices such as portability and usability so that we can remote control and manage the mobile devices connected on home networks anytime, anywhere. However, mobile devices use different languages. Therefore, they cause some problems because their interfaces and the methods of operation are different each other. To solve these problems, there are two consideration. First, we may be solved development of the user interface and difficulty of maintenance in order to control various heterogeneous devices. Second, we may provide the user interface which is dynamically adapting user's preferences and device characteristics. To satisfy these considerations, we describe the design of an adaptive user interface for home network environments using the UIML (User Interface Markup Language) based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and the profile information of the user and device. Therefore, we present several implementation examples that show how the framework can form the basis of prototypical applications.

Protein Interaction Network Visualization System Combined with Gene Ontology (유전자 온톨로지와 연계한 단백질 상호작용 네트워크 시각화 시스템)

  • Analyzing protein-protein interactions(PPI) is an important task in bioinformatics as it can help in new drugs' discovery process. However, due to vast amount of PPI data and their complexity, efficient visualization of the data is still remained as a challenging problem. We have developed efficient and effective visualization system that integrates Gene Ontology(GO) and PPI network to provide better insights to scientists. To provide efficient data visualization, we have employed dynamic interactive graph drawing methods and context-based browsing strategy. In addition, quick and flexible cross-reference system between GO and PPI; LCA(Least Common Ancestor) finding for GO; and etc are supported as special features. In terms of interface, our visualization system provides two separate graphical windows side-by-side for GO graphs and PPI network, and also provides cross-reference functions between them.

  • ABR traffic form ATM LAN is controlled through RM cell, and the interface function to public ATM network is necessary to provide ABR service efficiently. This paper presnets new interface architecture, which is based on "Projected Node" [6]. using AIPU(ABR Interface Proxy Unit) to support ABR traffic streams incoming from ATM LAN in the public ATM network. For the efficient interworking, the AIPU has designed for interworking functions with ERICA switch mechanism. Conventional ERICA switch mechanism specified in TM 4.0 is basically used for short distance comparative to public network, however AIPU adopts the novel control mechanism to cover logng roud trip time (RTT). To improve the problems and to provide a dynamic range of UCI(Update Count Interval), this paper proposes, a novel control scheme, DUCI ( Dynamic Update Count Interval. And the paper shows inefficiencies of ERICA mechanism with fixed UCI through the simulation results, and represents the performance enhancement of DUCI mechanism developed to adjust the update count interval dynamically.
