In the present study, a deep learning model was established to predict the motion response of small fishing vessels. Hydrodynamic performances were evaluated for two small fishing vessels for the dataset of deep learning model. The deep learning model of the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) which is one of the recurrent neural network was utilized. The input data of LSTM model consisted of time series of six(6) degrees of freedom motions and wave height and the output label was selected as the time series data of six(6) degrees of freedom motions. The hyperparameter and input window length studies were performed to optimize LSTM model. The time series motion response according to different wave direction was predicted by establised LSTM. The predicted time series motion response showed good overall agreement with the analysis results. As the length of the time series increased, differences between the predicted values and analysis results were increased, which is due to the reduced influence of long-term data in the training process. The overall error of the predicted data indicated that more than 85% of the data showed an error within 10%. The established LSTM model is expected to be utilized in monitoring and alarm systems for small fishing vessels.

Stresses occur in the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister due to the impulsive forces incurred in the accidental drop and impact event from the transportation vehicle onto the ground during deposition in the repository. In this paper, the comparative study of finite element analysis for stresses occurring in various models of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister due to these impulsive forces is presented as one of design processes for the structural integrity of the canister. The main content of the study is about the design of the structurally safe canister through this comparative study. The impulsive forces applied to the canister subjected to the accidental drop and impact event from the transportation vehicle onto the ground in the repository are obtained using the commercial rigid body dynamic analysis computer code, RecurDyn. Stresses and deformations occurring due to these impulsive forces are obtained using the commercial finite element analysis computer code, NISA. The study for the structurally safe canister is carried out thru comparing and reviewing these values. The study results show that stresses become larger as the wall encompassing the spent nuclear fuel bundles inside the canister becomes thicker or as the diameter of the canister becomes larger. However, the impulsive force applied to the canister also becomes larger as the canister diameter becomes larger. Nonetheless, the deformation value per unit impulsive force decreases as the canister diameter increases. Therefore, conclusively the canister is structurally safe as the diameter increases.

For an electromagnetic suspension (EMS)-type urban Maglev train using U-shaped electromagnets, both the vertical and the lateral air gaps for levitation are maintained only by the electromagnet. The train can run over curved rails without active lateral air gap control because the U-shaped electromagnet simultaneously produces both a levitation force and a guidance force, which is dependent on the levitation force. Owing to the passive control of the lateral air gap, the lateral vibration could exceed the limits of the lateral air gap and acceleration. In this study, dynamic analysis of a Maglev train is carried out, and the effectiveness of a lateral damper for vibration reduction is investigated. To more accurately predict the lateral vibration, a Maglev vehicle multibody model including air-sparing, guideway irregularities, electromagnets, and their controls is developed.

In this study, a flexible multi-body dynamic simulation model of a knuckle boom crane is developed to evaluate the stress of spindle and rack gears under dynamic working conditions. It is difficult to predict potential critical damage to a knuckle boom crane if only the static condition is considered during the development process. To solve this issue, a severe working scenario (high speed with heavy load) was simulated as a boundary condition for testing the integrity of the dynamic simulation model. The crane gear model is defined as a flexible body so contact analysis was performed. The functional motion of a knuckle boom crane is generated by applying forces at each end of the rack gear, which was converted from hydraulic pressure measured for the experiment. The bending and contact stress of gears are theoretically calculated to validate the simulation model. In the simulation, the maximum stress of spindle and rack gears are observed when the crane abruptly stops. Peak impact force is produced at the contact interface between pinion and rack gears due to the inertia force of the boom. However, the maximum stress (bending/contact) of spindle and rack are under the yield stress, which is safe from damage. By using the developed simulation model, the experiment process is expected to be minimized.

A four-link mechanism consisting of torsion bars is used for opening the trunk lid in most midsize sedans. When the weight of the lid is in equilibrium with the spring force exerted by torsion bars, the lid stops opening at a pop-up height. However, the actual pop-up height has large deviations from the specified height even with the same parts in the same car model, which leads to quality issues. Automotive manufacturers have experienced this deviation problem despite much effort to resolve it. In this research, we developed a multi-body dynamics model for the analysis of pop-up deviation of a trunk lid with torsion bars, which can simulate the actual pop-up motion of the trunk lid by considering kinematic constraints of the motion and friction forces in joints. We could also determine the most important factor that governs the pop-up height by sensitivity analysis of all parts. The developed system can be used for the analysis of other trunk lid systems to control the tolerance of parts.
In situ rock mass is generally heterogeneous and discontinuous, with varying degrees of strength along the planes of weakness. The planes of weakness such as joints, faults, cracks and bedding planes, control the strength and deformation characteristics of the rock mass. Subsequently, the stability of underground opening depends upon the spatial distribution of discontinuities and their mechanical properties in relation with geometrical shape of openins as well as the mechanical properties of intact rock materials. Understanding the behaviour of a discontinuous rock mass remains a key issue for improving excavation design in hiかy stressed environments. Although recent advances in rock mechanics have provided guidelines for the design of underground opening in isotropic rock mass, prediction and control of deformation in discontinuous rock masses are still unclear. In this study, parametric study was performed to investigate the plastic zone size, stress distribution and deformation behavior around underground opening in a discontinuous rock mass using a continuum joint model. The solutions were obtained by an elasto-plastic finite difference analysis, employing the Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria. Non-associated flow rule and perfectly plastic material behavior are also assumed.
The closed system's internal rigid body particle rotation motion can be distinguished by a main body that becomes the core of the rotation and the particles that are subjected to the rotation. The instance of particles becoming bounded to the main body as a holonomic system, has till now, been well defined and formulated in the study of Kinetics, and the structure of the formulas relate well to reality. However, when the structure is non-holonomic it deviates from these existing equations. The purpose of this research is to categorize the differences between a holonomic system and a non-holonomic system when rotating, through devices. With a special emphasis on the real phenomenon of the non-holonomic system which will be formulated in the form of a model or computer simulation. With these formulas, the center of mass shift in a closed rotating motion system and confined motion of external friction will be adequately expressed, so that it may be applied to computer graphics motions methods.

Numerical simulations were performed to evaluate the dispersion characteristics of the pollutant around a Wolsung coastal area at located nuclear power plants. Numerical experiments by using EFDC(Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) showed good agreements by comparison with the time series and harmonic analysis of the tidal elevations. The released pollutants moved in north direction at flood tide and in south direction at ebb tide. The calculated salinity and temperatures showed good agreements with the observed results by NFRDI(National Fisheries Research & Development Institute). The water circulation due to the variations of the temperature, salinity and tidal components were analyzed to estimate the dispersion characteristics of the pollutant.

Electronic equipment has been applied to virtually every area associated with commercial, industrial, and military applications. Specifically, electronics have been incorporated into avionics components installed in aircraft. This equipment is exposed to dynamic loads such as vibration, shock, and acceleration. Especially, avionics components installed in a helicopter are subjected to simultaneous sine and random base excitations. These are denoted as sine on random vibrations according to MIL-STD-810F, Method 514.5. In the past, isolators have been applied to avionics components to reduce vibration and shock. However, an isolator applied to an avionics component installed in a helicopter can amplify the vibration magnitude, and damage the chassis, circuit card assembly, and the isolator itself via resonance at low-frequency sinusoidal vibrations. The objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of an avionics component installed in a helicopter and the structural dynamic modification of its tray plate without an isolator using both a finite element analysis and experiments. The structure is optimized by dynamic loads that are selected by comparing the vibration, shock, and acceleration loads using vibration and shock response spectra. A finite element model(FEM) was constructed using a simplified geometry and valid element types that reflect the dynamic characteristics. The FEM was verified by an experimental modal analysis. Design parameters were extracted and selected to modify the structural dynamics using topology optimization, and design of experiments(DOE). A prototype of a modified model was constructed and its feasibility was evaluated using an FEM and a performance test.
