  • The monolithically coupled finite element analysis for a deformable unsaturated soil slope is performed to investigate the effect of antecedent rainfall which is assumed by initial conditions varying degree of saturation (36, 51, 77%) in finite element analysis. The distributions of matric suction and deformation on slope surface obtained from numerical simulation show the instability of antecedent rainfall-induced unsaturated soil slope. Moreover, the numerical analysis using Drucker-Prager model can be checked if a soil slope has reached failure (trial failure criterion $f^{tr}$ >0, plastic behavior) or not (trial failure criterion $f^{tr}$ < 0, elastic behavior). It is found that displacement of slope surface layer increases and the matric suction on soil slope decreases with an increase of initial degree of saturation by antecedent rainfall. Especially, the matric suction of the soil slope in dry condition (S=36%) rapidly decreases rather than that in wet condition (S=51%) at the same rainfall duration. The results of the trial failure criterion ($f^{tr}$ > 0) show slope instability in the toe region and surface of the slopes.

  • Recently, polyurethane foam has been used in various industry fields to preserve temperature environment of structures, and a wide range of loads from the static to the dynamic are imposed on the material during a life period. The biggest characteristic of polyurethane foam is porosity as being polymeric material, and it is generally known that insulation performance of the material strongly depends on internal void size. In addition, polyurethane foam's mechanical behavior has high dependence on strain rate and temperature as well as being highly non-linear ductile for compression. In the non-linear compressive behavior, volume fraction of voids and elastic modulus decrease as strain increases. Therefore, in this study, temperature-dependent viscoplastic-damage constitutive model was developed to describe the non-linear compressive behavior with the aforementioned features of polyurethane foam.

  • The effect of moisture in flue gas on SCR reaction of NMO (Natural Manganese Ore) was studied. The experiments were performed over NMO with NO, $NH_3$ at independent condition or simultaneous condition. $NH_3$ can be oxidized at low temperature by the lattice oxygen in NMO catalyst. The concentration of NO and $NO_2$ by $NH_3$ oxidation with moisture is higher above $300^{\circ}C$ than that without moisture. Moisture would competitively adsorb with NO and $NH_3$ on NMO catalyst. It caused poor NOx conversion to compete against $H_2O$. Besides the NOx conversion efficiency was reduced at below $250^{\circ}C$ because of the dipped $H_2O$ competitively adsorbed $NH_3$. The reactivity of NMO varied with the calcination temperature and the optimum calcination temperature was $400^{\circ}C$ regardless $H_2O$.

  • A simple design method for rib-reinforced seismic steel moment connections has been recently proposed based on the equivalent strut model. An experimental program was implemented to verify the proposed design method, as well as develop the schemes that will prevent cracking at the rib tip where stress concentration was evident. All specimens designed using the proposed method were able to develop a satisfactory connection plastic rotation of 0.04 radian. In addition to rib reinforcement, slight beam flange trimming pushed the plastic hinging and local buckling of the beam away from the rip tip and effectively reduced cracking potential at the rib tip. Using strain gage readings, the strut action of the rib and resulting reverse shear in the beam web were also experimentally identified.

  • For the deformation, life time prediction and improvement of the life time in high temperature materials it's very important to know the mechanism of deformation. For these mechanisms the dislocation loop models of Orlova et al. and Mills et al. are used often now. But they show controversial differencies, even if they have unertaken similar experimental tests with the same alloy of A1-5.5at.% Mg. In this work also the similiar tests of them have done under the same temperature of 573 K ; (1) The specimen was deformed by $\sigma$= 30MPa and $\varepsilon$=0.03. (2) Direct after creep deformation of $\sigma$= 30MPa and $\sigma$= 0.03 the stress reduction tests to 15, 10 and OMPa have been performed. (3) To study the loop models dislocation structure and dislocation density ( p ) have been observed.

  • Trauma to the primary incisors may cause developmental or eruptional disturbance of the permanent successors. Two cases illustrate developmental disturbances of arrested root formation, dilaceration, and eruptional disturbances of impaction, ectopic eruption of permanent successors caused by traumatic injury to deciduous incisors. The patient of the first case suffered trauma at the age of 4 years 7 months, causing alveolar bone fracture including the maxillary right primary central and lateral incisors that were immedi-ately extracted. The second patient had trauma episodes at the age of 3 years. Avulsion of the maxillary primary right central and lateral incisors were occurred due to trauma. After such trauma, regular follow-up including radiographs is necessary to detect early any possible interference with normal eruption of permanent successors.

  • A study on the undrained behavior of isotropically consolidated clay-sand mixtures was carried out using the automated triaxial testing apparatus. Overconsolidated ratio, effective mean pressure and clay content( up to 20% bentonite) were the factors varied in the experimental investigation. Undrained behavior(strength and pore water pressure generation during shear in triaxial loading) depends upon overconsolidation ratio, confining pressure and clay content. Significant changes in undrained compression characteristics occurred at around 20% of clay contents in the sand. The test results were analyzed and their behaviors were interpreted within the framework of plasticity constitutive model for clay-sand mixtures. Possible physical bases for the proposed forms are discussed. Validation of the applied model using the laboratory results is also given.

  • A thick film NTC thermistor for low temperature co-firing was manufactured by printing and sintering a paste prepared using NTC powder of Mn1.5Ni0.4Co0.9Cu0.4O4 composition, lead free frit, and RuO2 on a 96 % alumina substrate. The effect of frit and RuO2 on the electrical properties of thick film NTC thermistor was studied. The resistance of the thick film NTC thermistor was higher than that of the bulk phase sintered at the same temperature, but it was found that the negative resistance temperature characteristic appeared more clearly and linearly in the resistance - temperature characteristic. On the other hand, the area resistance decreased as the sintering temperature increased, and the area resistance increased as the amount of frit added increased. The B constant of the thick film NTC thermistor was 3000 K or higher. Among them, it was found that the B constant of the thick film NTC thermistor made of paste with 5 wt% of frit added and sintered at 900℃ showed the highest B constant. Also, it can be seen that the area resistance decreased with the addition of RuO2, and the change in the area resistance decrease of the thick film NTC thermistor obtained by sintering the paste containing 5 wt% of RuO2 at 900℃ is the most obvious.

  • This study was performed to investigate the removal characteristics and mechanism of heavy metals using pellet-type ceramics(ZS ceramics), in which natural zeolite was mixed and calcined with converter slag. The optimal calcination temperature range was measured to be $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$. The calcination time had little effect on the removal of heavy metal in acid wastewater. The adequate dose of ceramics was shown to be 2~5% for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater. The maximum removal capacity of ZS ceramics for heavy metals were observed to be Al 84.7 mg/g, Cd 37.3 mg/g, Cr 81.7 mg/g, Cu 55.6 mg/g, Fe 57.2 mg/g, Mn 32.1 mg/g, Ni 38.0 mg/g, Pb 71.6 mg/g, Zn 46.3 mg/g. The pH played a pivotal role in the removal of heavy metals by ZS ceramics. The analysis results of mechanism exhibited that the ZS ceramics could act as a multi-functional ceramics for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater by adsorption, ion-exchange, or precipitation.

  • Effect of glass addition on the low-temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of $BaTi_4O_9$-based ceramics were studied to develop the materials for the functional substrate of low-temperature co-fired ceramics. When 10 wt% of glass was added, sufficient densification was obtained and the relative density more than 98% was reached at the sintering temperature of$875{\circ}C$. The microwave dielectric properties were k=32, Q*f=9000 GHz, ${ au}_f$=10 ppm/${\circ}C$. As the amount of glass increased, phase decompositions from $BaTi_4O_9;to;BaTi_5O_{11};and;Ba_4Ti_{13}O_{30}$ was observed.
