  • This study examined the interdependent retirement decision between husbands and wives. Since most of retirees in Korea retired by involuntary reasons such as health problems, it purposes to test whether the involuntary retirement of husbands(wives) influences the retirement decision of wives(husbands). Using data from 4th Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing Panel, it conducted probit and multivariate probit analysis on 1,038 dual-earner couples aged 51~76 to test interdependence of couples' retirement. The results showed that husbands who have retired wife were more likely to retire. It also proved that involuntary retirement of spouse is a significant predictor of early retirement decision, though the direction of the effect is reversed by gender. Wives were more likely to retire when husband were retired involuntarily, while husbands were more likely to stay in labor market. These findings helped to understand the retirement decision of aged couples in Korea and brought suggestion on labor market and care policies for aged couples.

  • Gingival recession could occur after orthodontic or endodontic treatment. This could influence not only functional and aesthetic problem, but also patient's treatment satisfaction. There are a lot of techniques for preventing gingival recession, but laterally positioned flap with subepithelial connective tissue graft could get definite advantages such as increase of keratinized gingival width and harmonious color match between graft tissue and surrounding tissue. Clinician should select a right patient case and diagnosis with clinical and radiography exam. In a surgical procedure, getting enough amounts of subepithelial connective tissue and flap coverage should be taken into consideration. The clinical outcomes in this case report shows laterally positioned flap with subepithelial connective tissue graft could be a treatment with predictive outcome.

  • The impacted maxillary canine is a common problem of which all dental practitioners should be aware. The surgical orthodontic treatment of impacted canines is replaced correction position in dental arch without periodontal damage. Many treatment possibilities have been considered for this goal; window procedure, apically positioned flap, closed eruption technique and tunnel traction. Prognosis for these treatment may be very uncertain in many case(infraosseous impacted tooth). Other steps are required to achieve a satisfactory periodontal outcome. Satisfactory results could be expected if the physiologic eruption pattern is restored by tunnel traction, because permanent tooth erupts through the gingiva near the crest of the ridge so that periodontal damage is reduced. This article report that the surgical orthodontic treatment using tunnel traction is obtained proper position and reduced periodontal damage in facially impacted maxillary canines.

  • Trauma from occlusion(TFO) is injury to the periodontal tissue as a result of occlusal forces. Mobility is a common clinical sign of occlusal trauma. In acute occlusal trauma, this may be accomanied by pain, tenderness to percussion, thermal sensitivity, and pathologic tooth migration. Chronic occlusal trauma may be marked by excessive wear and gingival recession. Radiographic finding include a widened periodontal ligament space, radiolucence and condensation of the alveolar bone and root resorption. TFO is related to the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. It can cause increased tooth mobility TFO itself does not initate or aggravate marginal gingivitis or initiate periodontal pockets. Active trauma can accelerate bone loss, pocket formation and gingival recession depending on the presence of local irritants and inflammation. Gingival recession associated with occlusal forces includes traumatic crescent, McCall's festoon and Stillman's cleft. TFO plays a minor role in the pathogenesis of early to moderate periodontitis. A 5-year-old male visited Yonsei University Pedodontics clinic with a chief complaint about gingival recession. Mobility, excessive wear, gingival recession were detected by clinical exam on the both mandibular deciduous ca nine. On the radiographic view, vertical alveolar bone loss was observed on both mandibular deciduous canine.

  • As Korea became one of the oldest countries in the world, successful aging emerged as an important issue to individuals as well as to society. This study aims to determine not only the Korean seniors' happiness and unhappiness factors but also the means to enhance their happiness and deal with unhappiness. We collected news articles related to the happiness and unhappiness of seniors with nine keywords based on Alderfer's ERG Theory. We then applied a topic modeling technique, Latent Dirichlet Allocation, to examine the main issues underlying the seniors' happiness and unhappiness. According to the analysis, we investigated the conditions of happiness and unhappiness by inspecting the topics based on each keyword. We also conducted a detailed analysis based on the main factors from topic modeling. We proposed specific ways to increase and overcome the happiness and unhappiness of seniors, respectively, in terms of government, corporate, family, and other social welfare organizations. This study indicates the major factors that affect the happiness and unhappiness of seniors. Specific methods to boost happiness and relief unhappiness are suggested from the additional analysis.
