Development of Biblio Counseling Program for Elementary School Students and Analysis of the Effect: Based on Adler's Individual Psychology (초등학생을 위한 독서상담 프로그램 개발 및 효과 분석 - 아들러의 개인심리학을 기반으로 -)

  • This study developed and applied Biblio-counseling program based on Alfred Adler's individual psychology targeting upper elementary school students who are in transitional stage of physical and psychological development and examined the effect of the program on the children's sense of inferiority, social interest, personality priority. The program was applied to 20 fourth and fifth graders enrolled in K Elementary School located in S City, Gyeonggi-do Province who were evenly divided into experimental group and control group who was applied for a total of 12 sessions. Main results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, in an analysis regarding the analysis result, the sense of inferiority,the social interest and personality priority showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Second, the Biblio-counseling program based on individual psychology had positive impact on the subjective response of the upper elementary school students. And students' interest in books and reading books improved.

Bibliotherapy as an 'Therapuetic' Enforced Readers' Advisory and the Roles of a Librarian as a Therapist ('치료적' 독자상담으로서의 독서치료와 사서의 역할)

  • This article intends to locate the logical basis to apply bibliotherapy as a library service in Korean libraries. To the end, investigated and discussed are the historical relationship between bibliotherapy and RAS(readers' advisory service), and the theoretical base and practical experiences that enabled bibliotherapy to be practical in the U.S. library community. This article introduces a concept of 'therapeutic' RAS as a similar concept to 'developmental' bibliotherapy, and suggests the roles of a librarian as a therapist, based on the "Zones of Intervention" by Carol Kuhlthau.

Education for Readers' Advisory in Library and Information Science Programs (독자상담을 위한 사서교육에 관한 연구)

  • This study discussed the roles of librarians in readers' advisory services and the education for readers' advisory services in LIS programs. For this, literatures were reviewed and readers' advisory courses provided by LIS programs of North America were investigated. And then the characteristics and contents of readers' advisory courses were analyzed. Based on the analysis, I suggested the education for readers' advisory services in LIS programs of Korea.

The Analysis of Effectiveness of Bibliotherapy for University Students as a Group Psychotherapy (집단상담으로서 대학생 독서치료 프로그램의 효과 분석)

  • In this study, We found out that bibliotherapy program for university student has its strong point and effectiveness. The result of this study are follows: 1) bibliotherapy program is a safe method which covers the advantage of group psychotherapy and make up for the disadvantages. 2) significant changes in imitational behavior, cohesion and acceptance of reality suggest the necessity of bibliotherapy program that focuses on university career. 3) In light of the gloomy reality of young people, the fact that university students discuss love and hope for romance was meaningful phenomenon. It is necessary to study the after reading activities that can enhance the effectiveness of the bibliotherapy program and the specific topics and media that is needed by universities. The study is an approach that is widely available in university and will be the first step to establish the professional direction for bibliotherapy program.

The Effect of the Reading Discussion-oriented Career Exploration Program on Elementary School Students' Career Development and Achievement Motivation Improvement (독서토론 진로탐색 프로그램이 초등학생의 진로발달과 성취동기에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of study is to examine the effects of the reading discussion-oriented career exploration program for elementary school students on career development and achievement motivation. To achieve this purpose, three fifth grade classes were assigned to an experimental group, comparative group A and comparative group B. Reading discussion-oriented exploration program for the experimental group was conducted for five weeks in ten sessions, the same period of time for comparative group A was given for conducting a career education program and subject studying was conducted on comparative group B. The results of this study, the experimental group applied to the reading discussion-oriented career exploration programs showed a significant increase in their career development compared with the subject studying group. But they did not show a significant increase compared with the career education group. Second, experimental group applied to the reading discussion-oriented career exploration programs showed significant increase their achievement motivation compared with the subject studying group and career education group.

Readers' Advisory and Bibliotherapy in Korean Library Community (한국 도서관계에서 독자상담과 독서치료의 의미)

  • This article intends to discuss about the strategies and methods that the Korean library community should follow to make the ongoing experiment of 'bibliotherapy program' be successful, and eventually, settle up as a regular library service program. The main focus of discussion was on figuring out both theoretical foundations and historical roots that can justify such an experiment in Korean libraries. To the end, a comparative analysis to Readers' Advisory Services was conducted, and also done for comparing the special features in Korean libraries with those of American libraries, especially as related to library services to readers. The final suggestion includes the tasks that Korean LIS scholars should undertake to make the ongoing bibliotherapy experiment become an indigenous Korean model for library services.

  • The purposes of this research are to search and analyze information theories which are useful to approach bibliotherapy in terms of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service, and to propose a conceptual model of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service on the basis of such theoretical foundations. To the end, Dervin's sense-making theory and Kuhlthau's ISP model are introduced and applied to the conceptual model. The conceptual model is profoundly based on Dervin's situation-gap-use metaphor and Kuhlthau's Uncertainty Principle.
