Typological approach to Materials of TV Documentary Produced by Independent Production : Focused on KBS 1TV (독립제작사 제작 방송 다큐멘터리 소재의 유형화 : KBS 1TV <수요기획>을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to expand the access rights of audience by diversifying and specializing types of material of TV documentary produced by independent production. To achieve this, we classified according to materials of . This research suggested that almost the whole independent production produced this documentary in the way of complete posting system, especially small production. Also as the result, to analysis nine types of materials, types of current affairs and human sources have the most to produce occupied 51.9% and independent production have maximized profits through a series of works. The research value of this study is that this study analyzed the types of material selection of TV documentary produced by independent production systematically.

  • This study analyzed the accomplishment of the outsourcing production policy which forces broadcasting companies to schedule and broadcast more than a certain proportion of outsourcing production programs. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the policy increased the diversity of broadcasting programs, it is positive that a rise in the number of production companies resulting from the implementation of the outsourcing production policy increased the diversity of broadcasting program makers, but programs supplied were limited to certain genres, failing to be diverse. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the competitiveness of broadcasting and video contents increased, production conditions had not improved due to the controversy over the ownership of the right of production between terrestrial broadcasting companies and outsourcing production companies. In addition, though there was the positive effect of increasing export of broadcasting programs, the exports were limited to certain genres.

  • The ecology of Korean Production Industry has been changing rapidly. Small & medium size independent production companys have been shrinking in market share while big size production companys are taking larger share than before. This study intends to show the dramatic change of the ownership in Korean production industry and the consequencies. When considering positive development of production industry, small & medium size independent production companys should play important roles but the environment of the industry is not easy for them. The implication of this study is that small & medium size independent production companys have to search for survival strategies to adapt environmental change.

Motivation Crowding Performances of Independent TV Production Programing Quotas (방송 외주정책의 제작인력 동기구축 성과)

  • During the last 25 years, independent TV production programing quota policy has been actively evaluated in various aspects except in the field of production personnel. This study focuses on production personnel who has been neglected among the debate of independent TV production programing policy. Especially, this study tries to explore the effect that the policy has brought to production personnel's motivation. After in-depth interviews with 4 professionals and 6 media major senior college students, this study finds that both broadcasting and independent company professionals evaluated the policy performance in negative way. They insist the policy constricts their motivation for production. College students agreed they become unwilling to entering the production filed. The policy should be reconsidered and turn to positive incentives and rewards to motivate production personnel.

  • 방송유통이 중요하고 방송시장의 과제이다. 드라마외에도 다큐멘터리가 꾸준히 수출이 증가되는 추세이다. 콘텐츠 부가가치 창출과 고용확산을 위해 방송사와 제작사는 국내외 유통에 눈을 돌려야 하는 게 맞다. 여기서 흔한 질문 하나. "독립제작사가 어렵다고 하는 데, 수출 유통을 하면 쉽게 부가수익을 창출하지 않을까? 왜 안하지?" 그건 배고픈데 빵이 없으면 쿠키를 대신 먹으면 되지 않을 까하는 질문과 같다. 저작권을 방송사와 소유하는 것도 중요하고, 그 보다 사전기획과 제작을 해서, 수입이 생길때까지 회사가 '버텨내야 한다'. 유통한다고 수익이 바로 입금되는 것은 아니다. 한국의 방송콘텐츠 기획은 훌륭하다. 인구 5천만명의 나라에서, 한국어를 쓰는 나라가 많지 않음에도 우리 모국어로 많은 나라에서 보고있다는 것은 대단한 것이다. 또한 세계 거리에 싸이와 소녀시대가 울려퍼지는 것은 대단하다. 그것은 미디어를 염두 해둔 한글창제자부터, 대중산업을 이끄는 모든 한국 제작자들은 훌륭하다. 지금은 방송사와 제작사가 해외진출에 눈을 돌리고 있으며, 많은 성과를 내고 있다. 향 후 방송콘텐츠산업의 부가가치 향상과 발전을 위해서 좀더 많은 작품이 해외에 나가야 한다. 그렇게 하기위해서 해외에 더욱 적극적으로 진출을 모색하기 앞서, 글로벌 기획을 할 때 염두하여야 할 점을 정리해보겠다.

Box Office Hit Prediction Using Data mining and Text mining (데이터마이닝과 텍스트마이닝을 활용한 영화 흥행 예측)

  • 영화 수익에 있어 영화의 흥행 여부는 중요한 영향을 끼친다. 영화 흥행 요인은 영화 산업의 규모가 커지면서 많은 제작사들 및 투자자들이 고려해야 하는 사항이 되었다. 따라서 영화의 흥행을 예측하기 위한 많은 모델이 연구되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 선행연구에서 흥행에 유의미한 영향을 끼친다고 밝혀진 스크린 수, 감독명, 제작사명 등의 내재적인 속성과 더불어 온라인 구전 변수를 사용하여 영화 흥행 예측 모델을 만드는 것이다. 이때 기사 수, 블로그 수와 같이 온라인 구전의 크기를 나타내는 변수들을 사용하는 대신 개봉 후 첫 주간의 관람객 리뷰를 텍스트마이닝을 이용하여 전체 리뷰 중 긍정 리뷰의 비율에 따라 점수를 매긴 후 독립변수로 사용한다. 그 후, 데이터 마이닝 기법을 활용하여 만든 모델에 앞서 언급한 독립변수를 입력 값으로 사용하여 영화의 흥행을 예측한다. 최종적으로 의사결정트리와 로지스틱회귀를 수행한 결과 영화 흥행에 영향을 주는 독립변수를 찾고 모델의 성능을 평가하였다. 로지스틱회귀의 결과 관객 수, 평점이 영화의 흥행에 특히 유의한 영향을 끼치는 변수로 선정되었고 리뷰 역시 유의한 변수로 선정되었다. 이때 만들어진 모델은 약 90%의 높은 수준의 정확도를 보여주었다. 의사결정트리의 결과 관객 수가 가장 중요한 변수로 선정되었다.

Contents Business of Korean Terrestrial TV (국내 지상파 방송사의 콘텐츠 사업 특성)

  • In the era of the rapid change of broadcasting industry, Korean terrestrial TV, dominant player, face also to severe competition with the new media platforms. To survive in the traditional market and to be winner in the new market, they tend to diverse their activities. Particularly, they expand the activities to the content business. Therefore, this study focus on the diversification of 3 major free TV, KBS, MBC, SBS. As a result, Korean terrestrial TV still dominate content industry with their enormous library and their distribution networks : they conflict with the independent companies and do the contents business exclusively. There are no rooms for the independent distributor. Among 3 players, the strategies of SBS have been oriented to the business and in the field of MPP(Multiple program Provider), the performance of MBC has been remarkable.

  • TV drama is the entertainment content which is the very popular and profitable program than any other TV program genre. Although recently some broadcasting companies have been tried to set up the drama production system, they don't have the formal system yet. This study analyses the practices and mechanisms of the drama producing process by doing the dept-interview with the experts in the drama production field. The Korean drama production system is 'the producer-director system' and the strategies for the windowing effects are not applied systematically from the pre-production step. For the broadcasting companies to have the competitiveness through drama, the expert-producer system should be applied, the production elements should be controled systematically, and the multi-use strategies should be established.

Characteristics of Korean TV Program Market (국내 방송 콘텐츠 유통 시장의 구조적 특성)

  • Korean TV program market has started since 1995 along with Cable TV and local TV stations and increased significantly due to Korean wave. Now the new platform such as IPTV makes a new opportunity of growth to the TV program market. This study will analyse the actual status and mechanism of Korean TV program market. To begin, Korean TV market is still dominated by terrestrial TV in domestic distribution market and in exportation even though the windows are diversified. This has influenced not only for the production market but also the distribution market as the following: continuous conflicts between terrestrial TV and independent production companies even though the significant increase of independent production in quantity ; terrestrial TV's dominance in distribution market with enormous libraries as for the major content provider. In addition, there are limited independent distributors due to the exclusive trade of TV programs by terrestrial TV. As for the exportation, foreign market for Korean TV programs are mainly Asian countries like Japan, China, etc. Furthermore, since the genre of distribution has been concentrated in dramas, it is time to make efforts to find a solution. Thus, this research can give a guideline as for the first step.
