  • Given the interdependence of a marital couple, this study examined the effects of both cultural challenge and economic hardship on intention to divorce among the multicultural couple using the actor-partner interdependence model(APIM), and explored dyadic patterns of actor and partner effects. 415 couples(n=830) participated in this self-administered questionnaire study. Results of path analyses based on APIMs revealed that for Korean husbands perceived cultural challenge contributed positively to divorce intention of the couple showing both actor and partner effects, whereas for immigrant wives such perception showed only an actor effect. In contrast, perceived economic hardship among the husbands had little effect on divorce intention of both husbands and wives, whereas such perception by wives had both actor and partner effects on divorce intention. Results of dyadic pattern analyses performed by Bootstrap indicated the actor-only pattern and the couple pattern of perceived cultural challenge on divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. In case of perceived economic hardship comparison of the effect size suggested the partner-only pattern and the actor-only pattern for divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. These findings implied that in order to promote conjugal harmony and to prevent the multicultural family from being dissolved, Korean husbands need to develop greater cultural competence so as to tolerate cultural differences between the couple, whereas immigrant wives and their families need to develop greater economic competence so as to foster a hope for economic reliance.

  • Technological innovation is one of critical challenges for small and medium enterprises(SMEs) as well as larger firms. This study focuses on empirical test about the role of absorptive capacity on the relationship between technological collaboration and technological innovation outcomes in the context of SMEs. To achieve the purpose, we conducted hierarchical regression analysis through 266 samples from Korean manufacturing SMEs that is defined as an enterprise less than 300 employees. As a result, more diverse exploitations for types of technological collaboration have significant and positive impact on technological innovation outcomes. Additionally, the results show that absorptive capacity based on knowledge realization capability strengthens the impact on which external sources and types of technological collaboration affect technological innovation outcomes. Based on the results, we propose that SMEs require intense management efforts in establishing capability to create new knowledges, by combining existing knowledges, because excessive exploitations for external sources of technological collaboration necessarily do not help enhance technological innovation outcomes.

In addition, we could also confirm the existence of making mind competency group, which is composed of four competencies namely 'interest in various areas', 'challenge consciousness', 'failure management', and 'pleasure of the making process'. We could also confirm that human-centered competence group consisting of two competencies of 'humanity' and 'user-oriented' and the problem-finding competence group consisting of two competencies of 'observation' and 'recognition of discomfort in daily life'. Lastly, the making practice competency group is composed of seven competencies: 'understanding making tool', 'understanding electricity', 'understanding programming', 'planning', 'hand knowledge', 'information search', and 'direct execution'. • When we assume the transition to a knowledge management society, what factors should be differentially added to the characteristics of CEOs of small enterprises to enhance management performance? This can be done by measuring the core competence of the CEO who is an importance asset of the small firms. This study focuses on the following four inquiries to clarify the relationship among the core competence of the CEO, the knowledge management and the performance of the firms. First, we test the influence of the core competence of CEO on business performance. Second, we explore the effects of CEO characteristics on the knowledge management and the performance of the firm. Third, we test whether knowledge management has a mediating effect in the relationship between the characteristics of CEO which is a parameter, and the business performance of the firm which is a dependent variable. Fourth, for the sake of a deeper understanding of the CEO of the small firms, we conduct t-test or multiple comparison to find out the statistically significant differences among means of the main variables such as demographic characteristics, work experience, and entrepreneurship. The academic contribution of this study is to verify the characteristics of the CEO, which influence the business performance:the global competence, challenge spirit, interpersonal flexibility and stress tolerance, in connection with the knowledge management of small firms. The practical contribution of this study is to test whether CEOs can demonstrate successful business performance through knowledge management rather than measuring business performance after a certain period of time through profit and loss statements in this era of uncertainty.

As a result of this study, it was found that internal factors (financial ability, risk sensitivity) and external factors (start-up environment, start-up support policy) had a direct positive (+) effect on start-up success. Meanwhile, self-efficacy for business models partially mediated the relationship between factors(financing ability, risk sensitivity, start-up environment and start-up support policies) and start-up success. Self-efficacy for business models fully mediated the relationship between factors(start-up expertise and challenge spirit) and start-up success. Finally, trust in business models partially mediated the relationship between factors(start-up expertise, risk sensitivity, and start-up support policies) and start-up success. And the trust in business models fully mediated the factors(the spirit of challenge, start-up environment) and start-up success.
