This study investigates correlations between the impacts of urban and building form and microclimate on the energy consumption of buildings. It applies microscopic elements such as urban form, building form and character, and microclimate as factors in the energy consumption of buildings. To this end, the energy consumption of selected buildings in Seoul in August of 2017 was analyzed. Based on microscopic elements within a radius of 500 meters of 23 Automated Weather Station (AWS) measurement points selected by the Meteorological Office of the City of Seoul. With the exception of a few elements, the urban form and character elements demonstrate a significant relation to the energy consumption of buildings. It is also found that microclimate elements such as wind speed and humidity are pertinent to the energy consumption of buildings. It is helpful in that it suggests results for establishing more effective policies and strategies for enhancing the sustainability and resilience of cities.

This study investigates the effect of urban and architectural forms on the microclimate in urban areas. It applies urban and architectural elements such as urban form and tissue and building form and characteristics as the main influences on the microclimate within urban area. Among the 23 Automated Weather Stations (AWS) installed within Seoul city by the Korea Meteorological Administration, 6 sites were selected for the analysis, based on their different urban and architectural characteristics, and actual measurements were conducted in August 2017 using individual AWS equipment. Also, the measurements of microclimate and urban and architectural elements within a 500m radius of the AWS measurement points were collected and analyzed. The result of the analysis shows that the microclimate elements, such as wind speed, solar radiation, and temperature, were affected by the direction of the streets, the width, depth, and height of the buildings, the topographic elevation and direction and the traffic volume. This study is expected to contribute to mitigating urban heat island effect and setting the foundation for sustainable cities through development of urban management methods and techniques including the relationship between built environment elements and microclimate.

1990년대 '4 3그룹'은 한국 건축을 주도해온 소장파 그룹이다. 개발 열풍에 '건축'에 대한 국민적 인식과 토양이 빈약한 시대, 이들은 '메시지가 있는 건축'을 내세우며 건축계 담론을 주도했다. 4 3그룹에서 김인철 건축사는 전통에 바탕을 둔 공간철학인 '없음'을 화두로 작업해왔다. 이는 '형태는 기능에 따른다'라는 루이스 설리번의 말을 '형태는 공간을 따른다'로 바꾸어 우리 건축의 정체성을 확인하려는 것이다. 그는 건축평론가들 사이에서 건축의 본질을 추구하는 자세가 자연스럽고, 집요하며 진정성이 있다는 평을 듣는다. 머물러있지 않고 지속적인 실험 탐구로 변화하며, 건축을 다루는 손맛이 좋은 것으로 유명하다. 그런 그가 올 4월 행복도시의 건축을 집행하는 행정중심복합도시건설청 총괄건축가에 선임됐다. 최근 그의 사무소로 찾아가 근황과 총괄건축가로서 원칙, 그리고 앞으로의 계획 등을 들어봤다.

박원순 서울시장 취임 이후 서울의 구석구석이 변하고 있다. 그 중 하나가 '상생의 주거공동체'이라는 목표에 걸맞은 실험적 형태의 주택들이 등장했다는 것이다. 거대한 개발논리에 의해 도시가 좌지우지되는 시대를 넘어 시민이 만들어가는 도시, 개인의 삶을 담는 그릇으로서의 건축, 공동체를 기반으로 거주자가 만들어가는 주택의 시대가 온 것이다. 그리고 그 중심에는 서울시 주택정책을 총괄하고 있는 진희선 실장이 있다. 진희선 실장을 만나 서울시의 도시재생과 주택정책에 대해 들어보았다.

This study explores potential capability of a machine learning approach for monitoring urban morphology based on an evident case study. The case study conveys year 2006 investigations on interpreting urban morphology of Boston Main Streets by applying a machine learning approach. From the lesson of the precedent study, in 2016, another field research and interview was conducted to compare changes in urban situation, data commons culture, and technology innovation during the decade. This paper describes open possibilities to advance urban monitoring for morphological changes. Most of all, a multi-participatory data platform enables managing urban data system in real time. Second, collaboration with machines with artificial intelligence can intervene the framework of the urban management system as well as transform it through new demands of innovative industries. Recently, urban regeneration became a dominant urban planning strategy in Korean, therefore, urban monitoring is on demand. It is timely important to correspond to in-situ problems based on empirical research.

The relation of City and type caused by Neo-Rationalism often posed a subject in the modern urban architectural design and is treated by essential concept and methodology. The purpose of this study was that Neo-Rationalism architecture recognized and treated by metaphysical form and singular image examined on the urban viewpoint. In other words, interpretation concept of city and architecture considered through typological architectural theory and work analysis of Neo-Rationalism architect. Accordingly, the urban contextual characteristics of Neo-Rationalism architecture were aimed to analyze by examining the acceptance mode.

서울은 600년이 넘는 역사와 전통을 간직한 우리 나라의 심장이자 얼굴이 되는 도시이다. 그러나 지난 30년간의 급격한 개발시대를 거쳐오면서 고도로서의 문화적 향기를 상실하였고, 매력과 특징이 없는 도시로 빠르게 변해가는 것은 안타까운 일이다. 이는 다가올 21세기가 서울의 정체성과 고유성을 더욱 필요로 할 것임에 비추어 더욱 그러하다고 할 수 있다. 서울은 급격한 경제성장으로 인하여 세계에서 그 유래를 찾기 어려운 급격한 변화를 보인 도시이다. 서울의 도심부를 둘러싸고 있는 북악, 인왕, 낙산, 남산은 옛 모습을 지니고 있으나 그 내부는 과거의 모습을 찾기 어렵고, 다만 현대적인 모습만이 흘러 넘치고 있을 뿐이다. 또한 서울은 물리적으로 엄청나게 성장하여 그 경계를 찾기 어려운 도시가 되어버렸다. 따라서 서울은 밝고 번영하는 모습과 어둡고 불합리한 모습이 공존하는 이상한 도시로서 인식되고 있다. 서울을 현재의 모습과는 전혀 새로운 환경으로 개발하고 보존할 수 있는 대책과 계획이 더욱 필요한 때이다. 공공과 민간 그리고 시민이 참여하여 600년 고도의 역사성이 드러나고 걷고 싶고 인간적인 분위기를 간직하며 다양한 기능과 형태가 조화롭게 공존하는 도시로 가꾸어갈 수 있는 지혜를 모아야 할 것이다. 이번 특집에서는 서울을 대상으로 하여 그 역사적인 흔적과 오늘의 모습 그리고 미래의 대안을 회고하고 진단하며 모색하는 기회를 갖기 위해 여러 전문가들의 글을 마련하였다.
