  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to establish the concurrent validity of the universal goniometer and electronic inclinometer for ankle joint of motion, and to determine the inter-tester and the intra-tester reliability of these two instruments. Methods: Subjects were instructed 25 healthy subjects. Ankle range of motion was measured on two separate occasions 2 or 3 days by two physical therapists. Ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion was by using an universal goniometer and an electronic inclinometer. Results: The Pearson product-moment correlation between the two instruments was 0.78~0.80. The ICCs for inter-tester reliability ranged from 0.63 to 0.73 for universal goniometer and ranged from 0.81 to 0.88 for electric inclinometer. The ICCs for intra-tester reliability showed a wide variation(ICC=0.61 to 0.86). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the two instruments are reliable instruments for measuring ankle joint range of motion. The results also indicate that the two instruments can be used interchangeably for measuring ankle motions.

  • Objective: The Purpose of this study is the factive and descriptive research to identify the factors affecting the functional disability of the chronic low back pain patients. We investigated the effect of ODI by the Questionnaire and questioned an 70 patients who were back pain unit at G university hospital in D city from March to May, 2007. The functional disorder in this study were based on the Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) lower back pain disability questionnaire by fairbank(1980), and these data were proceeded by using SPSS/WIN version 10.0. Result: 1. The functional disorder in accordance with age, gender, academic background, occupation, diagnosis, pain cause, pain experience, treatment duration had no significantly similar difference statistically(p>0.05). 2. The functional disorder in accordance with duration of painful generation had statistically significance(P<0.05). Conclusion: we could verify that duration of painful generation affect on the factors affecting the functional disability of the low back pain patients.

  • The purpose are to demonstrate the pain, stiffness, and physical function by the Korean Western Ontario MacMaster University(KWOMAC) score of the patients with varus deformity osteoarthritis of the knee after treatment period. Twenty outpatients with knee osteoarthritis(OA) were randomized and divided into the control(n=10) and wedge(n=10) groups. The remission scores of the KWOMAC index of severity for knee OA were compared between the groups. The result of repeated two-way ANOVA's revealed that a contact lateral-wedged insole with strapping produced significantly differences in the pain and physical function score between groups after treatment period(P<0.05), but it was not significant differences in the stiffness score between groups(P>0.05). These results suggest that the pain relief and improvement in function reported by patients with osteoarthritis while using lateral-wedged insole with strapping may be achieved by a reduction in external varus moment and medial compartment load.

  • Background: To compare the effects of scapular stabilization exercise on the range of motion, pain, and function in the shoulders of women with breast cancer surgery. Methods: Fifteen patients were performed scapular stabilizing training using dumbbells for 30 minutes daily, five times per week for 4 weeks. The range of motion, pain, and function in the shoulder were assessed. Goniometer was used for ROM of shoulder external rotation. Shoulder pain and disability index was used for pain and function of shoulder. Comparison of the pre and post intervention was calculated by a paired t-test. Results: After 4 weeks of training, range of motion, pain and function in the shoulder improved significantly in patients with breast cancer surgery (p<.05). Conclusion: These findings indicate the more favorable effects from scapular stabilization exercise in patients with breast cancer surgery.

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of myofascial release technique (MFR) on psychological and physical symptom in somatization with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Based on this, proceed to present an effective physical treatments. Methods: In this study, three subjects were applied ABA design for a total of 12 weeks. Intervention was performed three times per week, and only MFR for 6 weeks was applied to the patient for 60 minutes. General physical therapy consisted of a total of 60 minutes including hot pack, electric therapy, and ultrasound. In this study, we measured three times in the second baseline stage at the initial evaluation before the commencement of intervention, somatization, depression, anxiety, sleep disorder, and pain after 6 weeks and 12 weeks. Results: In this study, the application of MFR showed significant differences in somatization symptoms, sleep disturbance, and headache. There was no significant difference in depression and anxiety. Conclusions: As a result, the application of MFR in PTSD patients with somatization can be suggested as a useful intervention to resolve the psychosomatic problem.

Methods: In 40 male low back pain with lumbar rotation extension subgroup subjects were recruited for the study. Subjects were randomly allocated into two groups. Experimental groups received tDCS and MCE, Control groups received sham-tDCS and MEC. Before and after intervention, measured in surface area, whole path length and Roland-Morris low back pain questionnaire (RMQ). Results: Showed a significant static balance and disability from the experimental groups compared to the control group. Showed a no significant RMQ score from experimental groups compared to the control group. Conclusions: tDCS and lumbar MCE showed the increased static balance in chronic low back pain with lumbar rotation extension subgroup.
