  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the of multimedia university library system theoretical models and to design partial functions of this model using multimedia toolbook 3.0. The theoretical model is constructed based on several operating systems such as JANUS Virtual Library and The Book House. Knowledge base of the designed system is constructed by interviewing reference librarians. The designed system consists of six modules : Reference Expert system. Journal Browsing, Multimedia Database, OPAC, External Database and User' s Guide. Finally, four problems are discussed as several major problems in building up multimedia university library network

A Study on the Development of Electronic Resource Management System in a University Library (대학도서관 전자자원관리시스템(ERMS) 구축에 관한 연구)

  • With the rapid growth and development of information technology and the Internet, the amount of information published in electronic formats such as video, audio, digitalized text, etc. and the number of users accessing information online to satisfy their information needs are growing at a tremendous rate. This study analyzes standardized components to construct ERMS and proposes a model of ERMS based on the result of the analysis. The main functions of ERMS in university libraries are: 1) ERMS can manage and control access information to various electronic resources, metadata, holdings, user resources. Also, ERMS can be compatible with an existing library system such as IR(Information Retrieval) system, linking system, or proxy system. 2) ERMS should completely be compatible with acquisition and cataloging systems for effective management and control of integrated information organization and library budget. 3) ERMS should systematically and effectively manage license information on electronic resources. 4) ERMS should provide ideal and effective environment for use and access control of electronic resources in a library and integrated tool to manage and control all of electronic resources. Additionally, this study points out the need to organize committee groups to establish standardized rules and collaborative management of electronic resources among university libraries like DLF ERMI and redesign organizations in a library and a librarian's job description.

A Study on Implementation of Library Course Pages (강의별학술정보페이지 구축 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Library course pages are an integrated service providing both course management information and library resources as one gateway to strengthen university libraries' information services. It is possible to associate course management system and library resources, and to provide course-specific information rather than library interface with various searching gateways. In the case of foreign university libraries, library course pages have been developed more effectively and variously for university's environment and characteristics, and have been built for all the courses in a university by system processing, not manually. In foreign libraries, there are many sophisticated, dynamic, database-driven house-developed and vendor-developed systems for library course pages than hand coded HTML pages. But in Korea, there is a lack of awareness of the importance of library course pages among librarians, and the programs of library course pages have not yet been developed. Therefore, this study is to build the model for library course pages using literature reviews and case studies. Then, this study could also lay the foundation for effective library services and the system development of library course pages.

  • Information management area faced new challenge arised from the developments of the computer and the information network, and the advent of information super highway. With deep perception of importance of the information, developments of information technologies, and change of the users' environment, we came to envision the digital library. This paper intends to describe the concept and function of the digital library, and to examine some of information technologies such as CD-ROM, OCR technology and image scanning, hypertext, hypermedia and multimedia. And it also considers the strategies for electronic information services and the applicability of the current information technology for digitalization by case studies of the existing database systems.

  • 도서관 통합 검색 시스템은 기존의 단일 사이트 도서관 검색 시스템과는 달리 한번의 질의로서 여러 사이트를 통합하여 검색할 수 있는 시스템이다. 본 논문에서는 XML 기반 DB 통합 검색 시스템인 DataBlender 를 이용하여 세 개의 도서관 사이트를 연동 및 통합하여 검색할 수 있는 시스템을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 DataBlender 를 소개하고 각 도서관 사이트의 스키마 설계, 통합 스키마, 검색 질의 화면 설계 및 검색 시스템 구현에 관한 내용을 기술한다.

  • 초고속 정보 통신 기반 응용 서비스 분야 중의 하나인 전자 도서관 시스템은 많은 기술적인 요구 사항을 가지고 있다. 특히 보안 기술은 문서 서비스에 대한 사용료 지불 문제, 저작권 보호 문제 등과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있는 쟁점 중의 하나이다. 전자 도서관에서 요구되는 보안 기술로는 문서에 대한 접근 통제 기술, 사용자 인증 기술, 문서와 사용자 데이터에 대한 비밀 보장 기능 등 여러 가지가 있다. 이 논문은 분산 환경에서 사용자 인증 기능을 제공하는 MIT Kerberos를 사용하여 전자 도서관에서 사용자 인증 기능을 제공하는 방법을 제안하였다.

  • This thesis presents a step-by-step development strategy to implement electronic school libraries corresponding to level 2 among 3 levels of the school library. The implementation of electronic school libraries means the transformation of school libraries into school media centers. This thesis divides the implementation of electronic school libraries into 3 steps. The first step is the implementation of facilities, the second step the implementation of web-based information system, the third step the networking of school libraries, on the basis of the first and second steps. And this thesis presents the basic policy of educational administration aspects to support 3 steps.

  • To promote libraries as "Libraries for All," it is essential to assess the current state of regional library infrastructures and explore policy support strategies for their improvement. This study develops the 'Library Vitality Index' as a metric to evaluate libraries' capabilities as sustainable infrastructures. The index assesses various aspects, including libraries' environmental responsiveness, accessible design, level of digital transformation, and capacity to provide universal cultural services. The research involved a comprehensive review of domestic and international cases, Delphi surveys, and expert group interviews to derive the final set of indicators. These indicators were weighted based on their importance using AHP analysis. The final index consists of three components: regional library activation (300 points), individual library capacity (470 points), and feedback systems (30 points), with a total of 800 points. The index includes 108 items, divided into 14 for regional library activation, 88 for individual library capacity, and 6 for feedback systems.

  • 디지털도서관은 데이터를 디지털화하여 수집ㆍ축적하고, 네트워크를 통해 이용가능한 도서관이라 할 수 있으며. 계산, 데이터축적, 통신관련 기술을 이용하여 완전한 정보서비스를 제공하는 것이 목적이다. 다양한 정보를 디지털화하기 위해서는 멀티미디어기술. 대용량의 데이터축적기술. 통신을 위한 컴퓨터네트워크기술 등이 기반이 되므로 여러 분야와 관련이 되는 것은 틀림없으나 결국 도서관의 역할을 하는 시스템을 만드는 것이 목적이다. 본 연구에서는 디지털도서관 설계시 개념화하고 범주화하여야 할 디지털도서관의 기능, 구조, 범위, 요소기술, 고려사항 등에 대하여 논한다.
