The detection of corporate failures is a subject that has been particularly amenable to cross-sectional financial ratio analysis. In most of firms, however, the financial data are available over past years. Because of this, a model utilizing these longitudinal data could provide useful information on the prediction of bankruptcy. To correctly reflect the longitudinal and firm-specific data, the generalized linear model with assuming the first order AR(autoregressive) process is proposed. The method is motivated by the clinical research that several characteristics are measured repeatedly from individual over the time. The model is compared with several other predictive models to evaluate the performance. By using the financial data from manufacturing corporations in the Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) list, we will discuss some experiences learned from the procedure of sampling scheme, variable transformation, imputation, variable selection, and model evaluation. Finally, implications of the model with repeated measurement and future direction of research will be discussed.

This paper develops a bankruptcy prediction model on an Artificial Neural Network for hotel management. A bankruptcy prediction model has a specific feature to predict a bankruptcy of the whole hotel business after evaluate bankruptcy possibility on the basis of business performance data of each branch. here are many traditional statistical models for bankruptcy prediction such as Multivariate Discriminant Analysis or Logit Analysis. However, we chose Artificial Neural Network because the method has accuracy rates of prediction better than those of other methods. We first selected 100 good enterprises and 100 bankrupt enterprises as experimental data and set up a bankruptcy prediction model by use of a tool for Artificial Neural Network, NeuroShell. The model and its experiments, which demonstrated high efficiency, can certainly provide great help in decision making in the field of hotel management and in deciding on the bankruptcy or financial solidity of each branch of serviced residence hotel.
Although many studies demonstrate that one technique outperforms the others for a given data set, there is often no way to tell a priori which of these techniques will be most effective in the classification problems. Alternatively, it has been suggested that a better approach to classification problem might be to integrate several different forecasting techniques. This study proposes the linearly combining methodology of different classification techniques. The methodology is developed to find the optimal combining weight and compute the weighted-average of different techniques' outputs. The proposed methodology is represented as the form of mixed integer programming. The objective function of proposed combining methodology is to minimize total misclassification cost which is the weighted-sum of two types of misclassification. To simplify the problem solving process, cutoff value is fixed and threshold function is removed. The form of mixed integer programming is solved with the branch and bound methods. The result showed that proposed methodology classified more accurately than any of techniques individually did. It is confirmed that Proposed methodology Predicts significantly better than individual techniques and the other combining methods.

This paper is concerned with analyzing the bankruptcy prediction power of three methods : Multivariate Discriminant Analysis (MDA), Inductive Learning, Neural Network, MDA has been famous for its effectiveness for predicting bankrupcy in accounting fields. However, it requires rigorous statistical assumptions, so that violating one of the assumptions may result in biased outputs. In this respect, we alternatively propose the use of two AI models for bankrupcy prediction-inductive learning and neural network. To compare the performance of those two AI models with that of MDA, we have performed massive experiments with a number of Korean bankrupt-cases. Experimental results show that AI models proposed in this study can yield more robust and generalizing bankrupcy prediction than the conventional MDA can do.
This study reviewde various parametic and nonparametic method for forexasting hospital closures in Korea. We compared multivariate discriminant analysis, multivartiate logistic regression, classfication and regression tree, and neural network method based on hit ratio of each model for forecasting hospital closure. Like other studies in the literture, neural metwork analysis showed highest average hit ratio. For policy and business purposes, we combined the four analytical method and constructed a foreasting model that can be easily used to predict the probabolity of hospital closure given financial information of a hospital.
Prediction of corporate failure using past financial data is a well-documented topic. Early studies of bankruptcy prediction used statistical techniques such as multiple discriminant analysis, logit and probit. Recently, however, numerous studies have demonstrated that artificial intelligence such as neural networks can be an alternative methodology for classification problems to which traditional statistical methods have long been applied. In building neural network model, the selection of independent and dependent variables should be approached with great care and should be treated as model construction process. Irrespective of the efficiency of a teaming procedure in terms of convergence, generalization and stability, the ultimate performance of the estimator will depend on the relevance of the selected input variables and the quality of the data used. Approaches developed in statistical methods such as correlation analysis and stepwise selection method are often very useful. These methods, however, may not be the optimal ones for the development of neural network model. In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithms approach to find an optimal or near optimal input variables fur neural network modeling. The proposed approach is demonstrated by applications to bankruptcy prediction modeling. Our experimental results show that this approach increases overall classification accuracy rate significantly.
The bankruptcy in Korea affects to all stakeholder of firms. Companies listed in KOSDAQ have high technology but the possibilities for success of business are low. The purpose of this study is to develop and to applicate falling prediction model of KOSDAQ firms using logistic regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the accuracy of classification of the models by years was between 76.5% and 77.5%, and that of the mean model was between 70.6% and 83.4%. Among the models, the mean model of -three years, -two years, and -one year was highest in the accuracy of classification (83.4%). Second, when the mean model of -three year, -two years, and -one years, the highest model in accuracy of classification, was selected to be verified on validation samples, the accuracy of prediction increased from -three years to -one year (71.7% for -three years, 75.0% for -two years, 90.0% for -one year). In indicating the superiority of developed model.

In this paper, we investigate how the average survival time of listed companies in the Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) are affected by changes in macro-economic environment and covariate vectors which show peculiar financial characteristics of each company. We also apply the survival analysis approach to the dichotomous firm failure prediction and the results show a similar pattern of forecasting performance using the existing dichotomous prediction techniques. These findings suggest that, when we consider a bankruptcy model under a certain economic event, the survival approach can be a useful alternative to the existing dichotomous prediction methods since the approach provides estimation of average survival time as well as simple binary prediction.

The construction industry has strong ties with other industries, and so construction company insolvency also has a strong influence on other industries. Prediction models addressing the insolvency of construction company have been well studied. Although factors contributing to insolvency must precede those of predictions of insolvency, studies on these contributing factors are limited. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of changes in the housing market on construction company insolvency by using the Vector Error Correction Model. Construction companies were divided into two groups, and the expected default frequency(EDF), which indicates insolvency of each company was measured through the KMV model. The results verified that 10 largest construction companies were in a better financial condition compared to relatively smaller construction companies. As a result of conducting impulse response analysis, the EDF of large companies was found to be more sensitive to housing market change than that of small- and medium-sized construction companies.
