A Field Study of Supportive Housing 'The Christopher' in New York, USA (미국 뉴욕시 서포티브주택 '더 크리스토퍼' 현장분석 연구)

  • As the number of homeless is increasing, there have been worries for social burden and social insecurity, along with crisis in human dignity. The purpose of this research is to identify characteristics of a Supportive Housing (SH) project which is considered best practice in dealing with homeless problem. A field visit walk through observation and in-depth interview was utilized as the main research method. As results, overall management, spatial and service characteristics were delineated, and its meaning and uniqueness were discussed, as well as, comparison with Korean conditions. In conclusion, the characteristics of the Supportive Housing were more realistically revealed through a current field case to inspire to explore housing for Korea. Besides current concerns were linked and implication to Korean adaptation was suggested. This study is unique in that SH of USA is firstly introduced in such details.

  • 올해 극장가를 가장 뜨겁게 달궜던 영화는 크리스토퍼 놀란 감독의 <인셉션(Inception, 2010)>일 것이다. 이 영화는 꿈을 스크린에서 환상적으로 그려냈다는 점에서도 놀라움을 줬지만 그보다 더 충격적인 것은 꿈을 훔치고, 꿈을 통해 다른 사람의 기억을 조작한다는 발상이었다. 이렇게 인간의 꿈마저 스크린을 옮겨낼 수 있기에 할리우드를 '꿈의 공장'이라고 부르는 것이다. 그렇다면 꿈이란 무엇이기에 꿈속에서는 현실에서 불가능한 많은 것들이 벌어지는 것일까?

An Animated Study Based on Games - based on the 12 Stages of Christopher Vogler's heroic journey

  • The commercial success of the game has also led to animation of the original game, especially the live version of The Street Fighter II in 1994 and a variety of videos of the game-based version, 2D Animation and 3D Animaion until now. But animations are not always successful because they are based on popular and commercially successful games. That's because when the original game was remade into an animation, the difference between the narrative structure of the original game story and the setting of the game and animation is striking. Nevertheless, a feature-length animation based on the Angry Birds game, which was released on May 19, 2016, has also been a huge commercial success, with this paper analyzing the case applied to the 12th stage of Christopher Vogler's hero's journey, Aengibird the Movie, and discussing the way in which the animation developed based on the game compared with other animations. Christopher Vogler, a Hollywood playwright, analyzed the structure of popular-loved movies based on the common narrative of the myth as the main motif of the mythologist Joseph Campbell. His narrative style is a hero's journey, using a total of 12 stages of epic narrative structure to help the protagonist find himself and achieve what he wants. Foreign heroes, adventure films as well as animations from big studios like Disney, Pixar, and Ghibli are using the story-development method of this Christopher Vogler.

Yagisawa on Peacocke and van Inwagen

  • In his book Worlds and Individuals: Possible and Otherwise, Takashi Yagisawa Yagisawa argues that his own theory is better than Lewis's theory by showing that his own theory can deal with important objections to modal realism more successfully than Lewis's. In particular, Yagisawa claims that by adopting modal tenses, he can respond to many important objections to modal realism in a uniform way. In this paper, I argue that Lewis can also successfully respond to Peacocke's objection in an exactly parallel way to Yagisawa's by distinguishing existence at the actual world from existence at other possible worlds and that Yagisawa's response to van Inwagen's objection does not succeed. I conclude that Yagisawa fails to show that his own theory is better than Lewis's.

  • Christopher Nolan's film "Inception (2012)", which depicts the world of dreams as a unique space-time and opens a new chapter in the expression of dreams, portrays the dreamy world of unconsciousness. However, I can find limitations and contradictions in the expression of the actual dreams and essence of unrealistic structures and forms. I can find David Lynch's movies "Mulholland drive (2001)", which are closer to Freud's psychoanalysis in expressing the actual presentation process of dreams Through comparative analysis, I try to analyze the interpretation and context of the dream mentioned by Freud. The film "Inception" can be appreciated in terms of space time and rich imagination created from the point of view of science fiction movies, but it shows that logical reasonability is weak in view of applying the essence of dream. On the other hand, the film "Mulholland Drive" describes the illogical, confusing and unhappy feeling of unconsciousness by giving logic and order based on the interpretation of Freud's psychoanalytic dreams, is. In this way, it is possible to portray more realistic scenes of dreams only through the portrayal of dreams and unconsciousness based on Freud's psychoanalytic viewpoint.

  • 미 법무부의 독점금지국(the Antitrust of the U.S. Department of Justice)은, 지난달 제일제당과 두 일본기업이 미 독점금지법 위반을 인정하는데 동의했다고 발표하였다. 미 법무부 독점금지국은 미국 상거래에 영향을 주는 호전적 카르텔에 있어서는, 연루된 기업의 국적에 상관없이, 또한 그 기업이 미국 역내에 있느냐 역외에 있느냐를 불문하고 자국의 독점금지법을 일괄적으로 적용해 오고 있다. 따라서 이런 기업들은 미국 독점금지법하에서 벌금이나 심지어는 금고형으로부터 자유로울 수가 없는 것이 현실이다. 미 법무부의 독점금지국은 판사의 형 선고 재량권을 현저하게 약화시킨 형 선고에 관한 지침(United States Sentencing Guidelines), 그리고 카르텔 공동협력에 있어 공모에 대한 증거제공 및 공동행위를 신고한 기업에 대해 형량감경제도(Corporate Leniency policy)를 효율적으로 운영함으로써 지난 몇 년간 미국 역외에서 발생한 공동행위에 대해 수많은 형사적 유죄판결을 받아내었다. 지난 수십년간 독점금지국은 가격고정, 입찰담합, 시장할당 그리고 셔먼법에 의해 당연위법으로 인정되는 경쟁자간의 합의에 관련된 기업들과 개인들에 대해 조사하고 형사적으로 소추해왔다. 이 모두는 불합리하게 거래를 제한하는 합의로 독점금지법에 의해 금지되는 행위들이다. 연방법은 현재 셔먼법 위반에 대한 벌칙으로 거래를 제한하는 공모에 합의함으로써 셔먼법을 위반한 기업에게는 최고 1,000만 달러, 개인에게는 최고 35만 달러의 벌금을 부과할 수 있으며 최장 3년간의 징역에 처해 질 수 있다고 규정하고 있다. 그러나 벌금액은 1987년의 형사벌금개선법(The Criminal Fines Improvements Act: 법원이 개인 및 기업에 대한 범죄에 의해 야기된 이익이나 손실의 두 배에 해당하는 금액 중 더 큰 금액을 선택적으로 부과할 수 있다는 규정)에 의해 극적으로 늘어나고 있다. 이 논고에서는 미 법무부 독점금지국이 글로벌 카르텔과의 전쟁을 성공적으로 수행하게 된 과정을 간략하게 검토하고, 그 과정에서 다루어진 중요한 사건 중 두 사례를 선정해서 고찰해 보기로 하겠다.
