Analysis of CFT Beam-to-Column Connections with T-Stiffeners (T형 스티프너를 이용한 콘크리트 충전강관 기둥-보 접합부의 해석에 관한 연구)

  • The goal of this paper is to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of concrete-filled tubular column to H-beam connections with external T-stiffener through the finite element method and to offer basic data for the design of T-stiffener. To identify the problems of previous test results, the same shapes of the full-scale test specimens were modeled for the finite element analysis. Results of the analysis were compared with the test results. Several stress and strain indices were used to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of connection with various T-stiffeners parameters. The models of analysis with different T-stiffener are grouped into TS, TSD, and TSH series. An alternative plan that decreases the stress concentration of beam flange to horizontal stiffener connection is proposed through the elasto-plastic finite element method. The basic design idea and minimum sizes of T-stiffener were proposed based on the various indices in relation to the connection details.

  • Fire resistance steel, grading 490 MPa, had developed by using Thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) and it has better performance at welding, seismic resistance than those of the ordinary structural steel, But the fire resistance performance is required to verify against the ordinary fire resistance, FR 490. Therefore this study was done to make database of mechanical properties at high temperature and to evaluate the structural stability at high temperature in terms of materials and structural member such as H-section from that of FR 490. The result of this study was that the structural stability of TMCP was lower than that of ordinary FR 490 at the range up about $700^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, high performance(strength) steels have been utilized to structural materials in buildings and bridges with the demand for high-rise and long-span of main structures. This paper is a series of basic study for the design specification of structural members using high performance steel, material properties of high performance rolled steel building structures. HSA800 was compared with the requirements of Korean Standards(KS) for HSA800. Welded square tube stub columns with variables of width-to-thickness ratios are planned in order to investigate the local buckling behaviors and check the current design limit of width-to-thickness ratio and uniaxial compressive tests are carried out. In addition, the local buckling behaviors of stub columns obtained finite element analysis were compared with those of test results.

This paper offers a series of basic study for the design specification of structural members using high performance steel, that is material properties of HSA800 (High-performance rolled steel for building structures). Built-up square tube stub columns with variables of width-to-thickness ratios are planned as a parametric study in order to investigate the local buckling behaviors and check the current design limit of width-to-thickness ratio. In addition, the buckling behaviors of stub columns obtained finite element (FE) analysis were compared with those from experimental tests. The verified FE model was used for parametric study and checked applicability of high-strength steel on current design specification.

  • The form of Pantheon in Rome is graphically analyzed in relation to the angle of the Sun that varies through four seasons of the year. These are worked out in the Autocad drawing files for exactitude and efficiency. Some of the results suggest that the Pantheon is carefully designed to predict the equinoxes and the solstices.

  • Impact resonance testing was carried out on small and large concrete blocks containing several types of artificial flaws respectively. Quantitative analysis of the observed peak frequencies in the impact resonance tests identifies the possible normal modes of concrete blocks containing flaws. and enables to determine the depth and size of the flaws in concrete blocks. In this study, concrete can be treated as a homogeneous and isotropic material. The flaw size and location at each section of artificial flaw series in small and large concrete blocks, determined through two-dimensional scanning of impact point and real-time fast Fourier transform, are in good agreement with real size location, respectively. Consequently, quantitative analysis method of vibration modes in the impact resonance tests, which can be applied for homogeneous and isotropic material, can be useful for the detection of flaws in any case of small and large concrete blocks in this study.

  • The moment resisting frame has been well-known as it had very excellent seismic performance, and it has been widely used and constructed in the design of a lot of buildings. However, the moment resisting frame system did not exert the seismic performance during the earthquake in Northridge and Kobe sufficiently, and it produced the crack or brittle fracture on the joint. this study was to ]m tests with the full-scale test subject as parameters of existence of H-beam web high tensile bolt shearing joint and reinforcement of H-flange rib. This researcher was to anticipate the decrease of number of high tensile bolts and the improvement of workability through the double shear joint by the experiment, and improve the seismic performance through the reinforcement of rib plate. In addition, this study was to prevent the brittle fracture by the stress concentration through the non scallop.

  • As architectures have recently become high-risers and megastructured, stable high strength products have been ensured. Accordingly, use of precast concrete accouplement has been increased in order to facilitate air compression and rationalize construction. Since not only external heating but also internal temperature rise caused by the accumulation of cement hydration heat in manufacturing process, precast concrete members with large cross-section used for high-rise mega-structure's columns and beams may exhibit different temperature history compared to the precast concrete members for wall and sub-floor with relatively small cross-sections. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the characteristics of temperature history of mass concrete members cast with high-strength concrete for precast concrete application. In this study, large cross-sectional precast concrete mock-up, unit cement quantity, and temperature histories in manufacturing precast concrete member under different curing condition were inclusively investigated.

  • The coupled vibration of the deck house and stern structure, which was experienced on a 12,900 TDW Ro/Ro ship, has been studied. It was a large-scale vibration problem where the structure resonates with the propeller excitation at the first blade passing frequency. After discussing the structural characteristics of the ship, the vibration characteristics measured ducting the sea-trial are presented and compared with the analysis results which are based on a 3 dimensional finite element(FE) model. The FE model is also used to verify various reinforcement options and to predict their effectiveness. A substantial reduction or the vibration was confirmed during the sea-trial after installing a few selected reinforcement. The forced vibration response, which is computed using the FE model, is compared with the measured data. The change of the vibration characteristics according to loading conditions is also studied.
