  • In this study, we explain the environmental variables that mainly influence the spatial and seasonal pattern of Galerucella nipponensis in 38 wetland and stream located at mid-low Nakdong River. G. nipponensis were found at total of 32 wetland, was strongly positively correlated with the biomass of Trapa japonica (t=2.173, $r^2=0.013$, p<0.05). In result of seasonal distribution during 3 years, the largest density of G. nipponensis adult were observed in summer (7~8 months), egg and larva was recorded in only early spring (4~5 months). Rainfall were negatively related with the seasonal distribution of G. nipponensis. They were more abundant in dry season (2015 year) than rainy seasons(2013~2014 year). Stable isotope analysis showed that the G. nipponensis consumed as food source no submerged leaf of T. japonica than other plant. However, utilization of T. japonica on Galerucella nipponensis were not influence to plant biomass and/or species composition in vegetated bed. Those considered as adaptive strategies for sustainable habitat maintenance that because T. japonica use as not only food source but also their lives for G. nipponensis.

  • Experiments were carried out to investigate the life cycle of the rice leaf beetle (RLB), (Oulema oryzae KUWAYAMA) ,yield losses by its damages, and control method in $1976{\sim}1983$ at the experimental field of Gangweon PORD. Peak occurrence of adult and larva rice beetle was late May and mid-June, respectively. Adult overwintered in the forest of mountain and move into the paddy field to lay eggs on the rice leaf from late seedling stage. A female adult laid eggs for 2 days, and egg, larval and pupal period was 9, 16, and 9 days, respectively. Leersia japonica MAKINO was damaged slightly by the beetle. The yield reduction by artifical defoliation ranged from 6 to 40% and yield reduction increased as leaf feeding delayed until mid-July. All insecicides show 100% of control value against RLB.

  • An outbreak of the onion thrips, Thrips tabaci, was observed in welsh onion cultured in greenhouse during winter season (Jan ~ Feb). The thrips was identified using DNA barcode. Weekly occurrence was around 240 ~ 700 adults per trap. Trap color gave significant influence on the capture efficiency with a preference on yellow compared to blue sticky trap. Subsequently, most (> 90%) onions exhibited a damage symptom induced by the thrips. This outbreak was observed only in a specific area but not in nearby greenhouses. This discontinuous occurrence pattern was further investigated by analyzing flight behavior through in- and out- door tests. About 1.5 mm-body length adults could jump up to about 5 cm and fly up to 2 m in altitude, which was the top of the greenhouse. This suggested their migrating potential to nearby (< 2 m) greenhouses. However, few were detected in the neighboring places probably due to physical hindrance with low temperatures between greenhouses. This is reasoned why the onion thrips forms a patch distribution among greenhouses during winter season.

  • Two marine harpacticoid species, Phyllothalestris sarsi Sewell, 1940 and Dactylopusia falcifera Willey, 1935 belonging to family Thalestridae are redescribed from South Korea, on the basis of the specimens of both sexes mainly from the washings of macroalgae at littoral rocky shore or sublittoral bottom sediments during the period from 1994 to 2000. They are new to Korean fauna, and this report is the first record for them in the Pacific Ocean.

  • Some experiments were conducted to evaluate the aphidivorous activity of coccinellid beetle, Harmania axyridis Pallas. Experiments were carried out using with laboratory reared beetles and two aphid species(Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae). Factors referred in the study of aphidivorous activity were the age of beetle, aphid species, temperatreu and illumination time. The aphidivorous activity was greatly different in relation to aphid species, developmental stages of the beetle, and the temperature. The 3rd and 4th instar larvae consumed more aphids than the 1st and 2nd instar larvae. Though the beetles consumed more number of cotton aphid, total weight of aphids consumed the more or less the same. Aphidivorous activity of the 1st to 4th instar larvae increased with a rise in temperature and adult activity was relativel high at $20^{\circ}C$ and low at $15^{\circ}C\;and\;30^{\circ}C$. The aphidivorous activity of the beetles was not influenced by the illumination period under the conditions given in this experiments, however, seem to require further study.

  • Feeding habits of Pseudoblennius cottoides collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. Pseudoblennius cottoides was a carnivore which mainly consumed fishes, caridean shrimps, and amphipods. Its diets included small Quantities of tanaids, copepods, isopods, mysids, and polychaetes. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Fishes were heavily selected as the body size of P. cottoides increases. Fishes and caridean shrimps were major prey organisms for all seasons.

  • The present investigation was conducted to provide a systematic approach necessary to establish an integrated insect pest management program of barley in Korea. Some ecological surveys on insect pests of barley have been undertaken at the field of Experimental Station, Ky$\check{o}$ngbuk Provincial Office of Rural Development as a fixed point survey area, and at 23 localities for round survey throughout southern and central Korea from 1983 to 1984. Previously known insects injurious to barley in Korea were revised and the population dynamics of 10 dominant harmful species were analyzed according to either 24 localities or 25 cultivars respectively by using several sampling methods of net sweeping, black light traps, yellow water pan traps and visual counting. As the results, a total of 94 species belonging to 77 genera under 32 families are known to be injurious to barley, among them 20 species are newly added here. In the population density level, the dominant species were disclosed as Laodelphax striatellus (43.1 %), Macrosiphum avenae(27.0 %), Rhopalosiphum padi(6.5 %), R. maidis(5.4 %), Psammolettix strialus(2.7 %), Chlorops oryzae(2.2 %), Agromyza albipennis(2.1 %) Phyllotreta nemorum(1.4 %), Chaetoenema cylindrica(1.0 %), Dolycoris baccarum(1.0 %) in order. For the general abundance of major insect pests, it was highest in the cultivar P'aldal whereas lowest in Milyang #22. There were tendencies that Psammotettix striatus, Dolycoris baccarum, Phyllotreta nemorum and Chaetocnema cylindrica represented a maximum increase in the beginning of June, while Chlorops oryzae and Agromyza albipennis showed in the middle of May but aphids were in the end of May. In the dominance of natural enemies, Nabis stenoferus occupied 21.4 % and Propylaea japonica 9.6 %.
