Weather routing method is one of the best practices of SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan) for fuel-efficient operation of ship. KR is carrying out a basic research for development of the weather routing algorithm and making a monitoring system by FOC (Fuel Oil Consumption) analysis compared to the reference, which is the great circle route. The added resistances applied global sea/weather data can be calculated using ship data, and the results can be corrected to ship motions. The global sea/weather data such as significant wave height, ocean current and wind data can be used to calculate the added resistances. The reference route in a usual navigation is the great circle route, which is the shortest distance route. The global sea/weather data can be divided into grids, and the nearest grid data from a ship's position can be used to apply a ocean going vessel's sea conditions. Powell method is used as an optimized routing technique to minimize FOC considered sea/weather conditions, and FOC result can be compared with the great circle route result.

우리나라의 지문항해학은 1969년 윤여정이 지구과학, 항로표지, 수로도지, 조석 및 조류, 연안항법, 항정선항법 및 대권항법 등을 중심으로 실무적 경험과 학문적 이론에 입각하여 집필하였는데, 이것은 지금까지도 해기전문 인력을 교육하는 주요 교재로 이용되고 있다. 그러나 이 '지문항해학'의 일부 내용의 경우 해운선진국이라 할 수 있는 미국, 영국 및 일본에서 출판된 항해학관련 도서를 바탕으로 하였기 때문에 설명되는 과정에서 적용한 학술용어가 맞지 않거나 설명이 부족하여 독자의 이해부족과 오해를 초래하고 있다. 이 연구에서는 선박의 이동방향과 진로에 관한 기초 용어인 침로(Course)와 선수방향(Heading)이 가지고 있는 문제점과 논란의 원인을 분석하였고, 이론적 검토를 통하여 사용상 오류와 혼동을 방지할 수 있도록 용어의 개념을 새롭게 정립하였다.

In 1969, Y.J. Yun wrote the terrestrial navigation text book that discussed earth sciences, aides to navigation, chart and publications, tide and tidal current, piloting, rhumb-line sailing, great circle sailing grounded on the hand-on background and theory. It has still been used as a principle text book in a lot of maritime academies and schools. And many contents and definitions came from other terrestrial navigation books published in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Japan. But some of them have caused the misunderstanding because they had no enough explanation and explained by incorrect items. In this study, we have found out the problems in the terms course and heading which are related with the direction of the vessel movement, and proposed the amended definitions in order to prevent the misunderstanding and confusion. of them.
