In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical bilet placed in a die insetr. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduce to re4present tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears. Some firgiing experiments were catrried out with aluminium alloy to show the validity of the analysis. Good agreement was found between the predicted values of the forging load and obtained from the experimental results.

A rivet which can fasten two parts is one of an important mechanical elements. In this study, the process design of a blind revet is implemented using finite element method in order to manufacture it which can resist high vibration and has strong coherence between two parts. Considering plastic flow, ease of manufacture, high strength, material loss, and so forth, an optimal four-stage process is proposed by finite element analysis and process design rules. In addition, the finite element simulation results such as shape of the forged rivet, strain distribution and forging load are investigated for the usefulness of the forging process of the blind rivet. These results will be contributed to the forging process design and the die design of the blind rivet.

Support vector machine is known to be the very useful statistical method in classification and nonlinear function estimation. In this paper we propose a monotone support vector regression (SVR) for the estimation of monotonically decreasing function. The proposed monotone SVR is applied to smooth the Kaplan-Meier estimate of survival function. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed monotone SVR using survival functions obtained by exponential distribution.

In this paper, a new forming process of the large-size forgings within the limit of forming loads is developed by introducing the incremental forging method and combined forming method. For the development of the forming process, various related processes are proposed and modelling experiments of plasticine and corresponding numerical simulation ate carried out. Thus, an optimal process considering the productivity and economical efficiency is recommended from the study of formability and forming loads, etc. The selected process is subjected to a modelling experiment of lead and 1/7 scale prototype experiment of the real material so as to verify the effectiveness of a selected process as well as to determine the design parameters. The developed process is then applied the forging product of dome shape. Dome-shaped forgings can be produced by the developed process within the limit loads and with the simple tools.
The effect of forging condition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 9Cr-1Mo heat-resisting steel was investigated. Microstructure of centrifugal casted 9Cr-1Mo heat resisting steel and forged heat resisting steel are consisted of martensite. With the increase of forging ratio, tensile strength and hardness increased, while elongation and impact value decreased. By increasing of forging starting temperature and finishing temperature, tensile strength and hardness increased, while elongation and impact value decreased. We obtained the optimum forging conditions as follow, forging ratio is 30%, forging starting temperature is $1200^{\circ}C$ and forging finishing temperature is $950^{\circ}C$.

Process design of multi-stage forging for a bolt with nonaxisymmetric washer cam has been studied by using finite element method. For shape complexity of the bolt, it is impossible to manufacture in a single stage forging. To design multi-stage forging for the bolt the forging load and fiber flow of each step have been analyzed by using commercial finite element code DEFORM-3D. Simulated results have been compared with experimental ones. Multi-stage forging process has been designed with four stages. The workpiece should be eccentric shape until third forging stage. And then bolt head and washer of eccentrical shape is created in last stage. As a results, It was predicted that shape of product would be good and effective strain would be uniformly distributed in the product. Also, it was predicted whether defects would exist or not by reviewing the fiber flow.

The upper bound elemental technique (UBET) is used to simulate the bulk flow characteristics in axisymmetric closed die forging process. Internal flow inside the cavity is predicted using a kinematically admissible velocity field that minimizes the rate of energy consumption. Application of the technique includes an assessment of the formation of flash and of degree of filling in rib-web type cavity using billets with various aspect rations. The technique considering bulging effect is performed in an incremental manner. The results of simulation show how it can be used for the prediction of forging load, metal flow, and free surface profile. The experiments are carried out with plasticine. There are good agreements in forging load and material flow in cavity between the simulation and experiment. The developed program using UBET can be effectively applied to the various forging problems.
Conventional hot forging and thixoforging of Al 7075 alloy have been compared with respect to microstructures, formability and hardness. Two distinctive temperature-strain rate ranges for hot forging of Al 7075 alloy were observed from the results of simple compression tests with strain rates of 10-3∼101 sec-1 in the temperatures between $250^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C.$ In the dynamic recovery range (low temperature-high strain rate range) multi-stage forging was necessary to form a complex shape part due to the lack of formability. In the high temperature-low strain rate range, in which dynamic recrystallization takes place a complex shaped park could be formed by single-stage forging. About 50% cold working in the SIMA process was necessary to get a fine and homogeneous microstructures. Microstructural study suggest that thixoforged Al 7075 part has fine grains and homogeneous microstructures. Its hardness number is almost same to that of conventional hot forged part after aging treatment.

An optimization method is proposed for preform and billet shape designs in the forging process by using the Equivalent Static Loads (ESLs). The preform shape is an important factor in the forging process because the quality of the final forging is significantly influenced by it. The ESLSO is used to determine the shape of the preform. In the ESLSO, nonlinear dynamic loads are transformed to the ESLs and linear response optimization is performed using the ESLs. The design is updated in linear response optimization and nonlinear analysis is performed with the updated design. The examples in this paper show that optimization using the ESLs is useful and the design results are satisfactory. Consequently, the optimal preform and billet shapes which produce the desired final shape have been obtained. Nonlinear analysis and linear response optimization of the forging process are performed using the commercial software LS-DYNA and NASTRAN, respectively.

Microstructural and mechanical property were evaluated at the medium-sized HT9 (12Cr-1MoWV) forged steel which was considered as primary candidate for the fuel cladding in sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). Material was forged at $1170^{\circ}C$ after the induction melting to make round bar as 160mm diameter, 7000mm length then the radial distribution of microstructure as well as microhardness was evaluated. The results showed that overall microstructure exhibited as ferrite-martensite structure, where small amount (2~3%) of delta ferrite was formed throughout the specimen and maximum 15% of transformed ferrite was formed at the center, where it gradually decreased toward the radial direction. Sensitivity analysis of the cooling curve and Time-Temperature-Transformation (TTT) diagram revealed that formation of transformed ferrite could be avoided when the diameter was decreased down to 120mm.
