  • In this paper, AUTODYN blasting simulation of single blast hole were conducted to evaluate the blasting effects of Polymer Gel. The coupling mediums used as the filling material around an explosive charge were air and gelatin. each simulation case was D I(decoupling index) 1.0, 1.25, 1.56 with air or polymer gel coupling materials. In order to evaluate blast effects full charge model was used as a reference for evaluation of blasting effects. The results of numerical analysis showed that fragmentation of a limestone model of were much more fractured by polymer gel medium than by air medium. As expected, the transmitted peak pressure was higher polymer gel coupled model than in air medium.

  • In order to explain entirely dynamic fracture process induced by blasting in rock mass, it needs to consider detonation pressure and gas pressure acting on blasthole wall simultaneously. In this study, prior to simulating the coupling between gas flow and rock mass, we analyzed effects of gas pressure-time history, length of cracks and equation of state adopted to calculate the gas pressure on the gas flow within a radial fracture created by single-hole blasting. The effects were investigated on two assumptions: (a) the radial fracture was composed of 5 cracks which were 0.01 m in length and 0.001 m in asperity each and (b) the PETN explosive which diameter was 36 mm was charged in a blasthole of 45 mm diameter. It was concluded that the maximum gas pressure and its travel time were dependent on characteristics of charged explosives and geometrical properties of radial fracture.

  • In this paper the Hoek-Brown (HB) failure criterion is integrated into the Holmquist-Johnson-Cook (HJC) concrete material model to reflect the inherent characteristics of field rock masses in LS-DYNA blast modeling. This is intended to emphasize the distinctive characteristics of field rock masses that usually have many geological discontinuities. The replacement is made only for the static strength part of the HJC material model by using a statistical curve fitting technique, and its procedure is described in detail. An example is also given to illustrate the use of the obtained HJC material model. Computation is performed for a plane strain model of a single-hole blasting on a field limestone by using the combination of the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) technique and the multi-material arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (MMALE) method in LS-DYNA.

  • In construction site, conventional methods such as jackhammer or explosive methods(dynamite) have been often used for the demolition of structures. Use of those methods are more carefully treated in environmentally and historically sensitive area. For those reasons, use of Soundless Chemical Demolition Agent(SCDA) is getting the spotlight. The SCDA is a powder which has expansive strength when it is mixed with water. In these Characteristics, SCDA can destroy the concrete or rock as it is poured into boreholes of the concrete or rock structures. However, there is no industrial standard for the use of SCDA effectively yet. In this study, experimental study to measure the expansive pressure was conducted depending on various boundary conditions such as waterproof, length of the steel pipe, submerged of steel pipe. Furthermore, computational analysis using damage plasticity model to predict the minimum required pressure of the SCDA for the concrete demolition depending on spacing between holes(k-factor) and compressive strength of the concrete was conducted. Obtained results indicates that water heat dissipation with submerged steel pipe shows the stable pressure for measuring the SCDA and hole distance(k-factor) is the most important factor for crack initiation of concrete.
