Two organic materials, peat and rock wool were used for removal of $H_2S$ by a biofilter inoculated with night soil sludge. By gradually increasing the inlet load of $H_2S$, the complete removal capacity, which was defined as the inlet load of $H_2S$ that was complete removed, and the maximum removal capacity of $H_2S$, which was the value when the removal capacity leveled off for organic materials, were estimated. Both values for Rock wool are larger than peat, based on a unit dry weight of material. By using kinetic analysis, the maximum removal rate of $H_2S$, $V_m$, and the saturation constant, $K_s$, were determined for all packing materials and the values of $V_m$ for rock wool was found to be larger. By using the kinetic parameters, the removal rates for $H_2S$ were compared both packing materials, and rock wool showed better performance for the removal of $H_2S$ in the inlet concentration range of 0~200ppm.

It is difficult to manage hotspot area and to establish the reduction plan considering with spatial-distribution on Korea TMDLs (Total Maximun Daily Loads) system. To solve this problems, methods of Load Duration Curve (LDC) using long-term flow and water quality data, and spatial-analysis were applied on present TMDLs. Jinwi A watershed which is enforced TMDLs plan were selected to study area. Results of application of suggested methods in this study to Jinwi watershed, Hwangguji tributary was selected to hotspot area and Jinwi tributary was exclued. Also, middle area of Hwangguji tributary was needed a reduction plan for the protection of non-point source pollution. In downstream area, livestock manure should be managed additionally. The new methods suggested in this study were useful to increase healthiness for total watershed.

The objectives of this paper were to estimate cell based pollutant loadings for total maximum daily load (TMDL) programs and to evaluate the applicability of the agricultural nonpoint source (AGNPS) model for an intensive agricultural watershed in Korea. The model was calibrated and validated at a watershed of 384.8 ha of drainage area using the observed data from 1996 through 2000 in terms of runoff, suspended solid, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus on a hourly basis. Analysis of spatial variations of pollutant loadings for rainfall frequencies of various intensities and durations were conducted. In addition, the validated model was applied to estimated the TMDL removal efficiency for best management practices (BMPs) scenarios which were selected by taking into account the pollutant characteristics of the study watershed. The model can help to understand the problems and to find solutions through landuse changes and BMPs. Thus, the method used for this study was able to identify TMDL quantitatively as well as qualitatively for various sources pollution that are spatially dispersed. Also it provides an assessment of the impact of BMPs on the water bodies studied, allowing the TMDL programs to be complemented more effectively.

The purpose of this study is the introduction of pollutant loads's estimation into Saemangeum watershed area with M.E.'s guidebook for TMDL and GIS tool. To estimate reliable pollutants loads, it is necessary to think about characteristic of removal, discharge and runoff as time series. In this study, it was calculated for generation loads which be came from pollutant source, discharge loads which be reduced in the treatment facilities and delivery loads which be considered the self purification parameter and delivery distance. To assess the delivery distance handily, it was particularly estimated using Arc-GIS. It was met with good results that delivery loads of BOD, T-N and T-P was reflected to seasonal precipitation. Lastly to verify the estimated pollutant loads, HSPF developed by USEPA was applied to it. It was showed a relativity of observed to simulated data for flow, Temperature, DO, BOD, $NO_3^--N$ TN and TP. Consequantly, this delivery loads can make full use of model input data for prediction of pollutant loads.
The dominant land use at the Seonakdong river watershed is paddy and forest areas and the Seonakdong river stands still. Thus, the water pollution in the Seonakdong river is becoming more serious for the non-point source. In this study, SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model was evaluated for simulation of flow and water quality behaviors in Seonakdong river. To perform the calibration and verification of the SWAT model, the measurements of discharge and water quality were performed for the period from 2006 to 2007 at 5 gauging stations in Seonakdong river. The $R^2$ value for discharge and water quality were 0.86 and 0.70 respectively for calibration after the sensitive analysis. The $R^2$ value for discharge and water quality were 0.81 and 0.51 respectively for verification. The simulation results show that BOD value in the river tends to decrease after the opening of gates and the patterns of TN and TP concentrations are similar as that of BOD. The gate operators need to determine how to supply water in drought season for effective water quality improvement. This study shows that the SWAT model, which is capable of simulating hydrologic and water quality behaviors temporarily and spatially at watershed scale, could be used to get the gate operation rule for the water quality management in Seonakdong river.
In this study, we studied on the remeval of toluene vapors in a lab-scale biofilter. Biofiltration was performed in a column fed downflow with contaminated air at ambient conditions. The column was packed with mixture of Peat and Calstene(5:3 vol. Ratio), Synthesized media, Bark and Wood chip, which were inoculated with microbial population of selected stains(Pseudomonas. putida, KCCM 11343, ATCC 12633). The microorganisms were immobilized on the bed medium and then biofilm were formed. The biofilter was operated under the conditions of various inlet toluene concentrations for 180 days and treated up to the elimination capacity of maximum 40 g/㎥hr at the inlet load of 30 g/㎥ hr with percentage removals of 20∼90% and gas retention times between 1 and 2 min. The pressure drop was very negligible through the biofilter columps because its value of 0.054 cmH$_2$O/m was much less than others. The effect of operating conditions such as flow rate, inlet toluene concentration and moisture contents on the performance of the biofilter was sequentially investigated in this study.

In modern large-scale semiconductor manufacturing clean rooms, the energy consumed by the outdoor air-conditioning system during heating, humidification, cooling, and dehumidification of the incoming outdoor air represents about 45% of the total air-conditioning load required to maintain a clean-room environment. In particular, the energy required for humidification of the outdoor air in winter is very high. Therefore, evaluation and comparison of the energy consumption in key humidification systems, viz., steam-humidification and water-spray-humidification systems, used in outdoor air-conditioning systems would be useful to reduce the outdoor air-conditioning load in clean rooms. In the present study, an experiment with an outdoor air flow of 1000 $m^3$/h was conducted to compare the air-conditioning process and energy consumption in outdoor air-conditioning systems with electrodeboiler steam humidifiers and air-washer water spray humidification systems. The experimental results showed that the water-spray-humidification-type outdoor air-conditioning system consumed less electrical power than did the steam-humidification-type system and was more energy efficient during winter.

Continuous media objects, due to large volume and real-time consiraints in their delivery, are likely to consume much network andwidth Generally, proxy servers are used to hold the fiequently requested objects so as to reduce the network traffic to the central server but most of them are designed for text and image dae that they do not go well with continuous media data. So, in this paper, we propose a two-layered network cache management policy for continuous media object delivery on the wide area networks. With the proposed cache management scheme,in cach LAN, there exists one LAN cache and each LAN is further devided into a group of sub-LANs, each of which also has its own sub-LAN eache. Further, each object is also partitioned into two parts the front-end and rear-end partition. they can be loaded in the same cache or separately in different network caches according to their access frequencics. By doing so, cache replacement overhead could be educed as compared to the case of the full size daa allocation and replacement , this eventually reduces the backbone network traffic to the origin server.
