  • A new pot chrysanthemum cultivar 'Peace Angel' was bred by cross pollination between 'Peace Yellow' and 'Lompoc' at the Yesan Chrysanthemum Experiment Station. The cross was made in 2003 and 'Peace Angel' was finally selected in 2007 after investigating its characteristics from 2005 to 2007. It flowers in the middle of October under natural conditions in Korea climate, but year-round production is also possible by short day treatment in summer or lighting treatment in winter. Flower shape is anemone type with pink petals and a yellow green center. Flower diameter is about 5.6 cm and the number of flowers per stem is 23.0, respectively. When short day treatment is necessary for manipulation of flower formation, 7 weeks of short day treatment is enough for the production. The shelf life is 22.4 days in the autumn season.

  • The temperature dependence of the dark conductivity was studied on undoped hydrogenated amorphous germanium (a-Ge : H) over the range from 297 to 423 K. The pre-exponential factor $\sigma$$\_$0/ and activation energy E$\_$C/-E$\_$F/ are determined by an Arrhenius plot. The Arrhenius plot of the electrical conductivity shows a kink around the kink temperature and then is composed of two exponential functions. The obtained statistical shift ${\gamma}$$\_$F/ was about 8.65${\times}$10$\^$-3/eV/K and the pre-exponential factor $\sigma$$\_$0/ was about 2$\Omega$$\^$-1/cm$\^$-1/. A temperature dependent defect density is numerically calculated from the conductivity data. A change of the defect density is observed in the factor of about two in the range of the experimental temperature.

  • A golden double freesia (Freesia hybrida Hort.) "Golden Amor" was developed from a cross 'Golden Crown' and 'White Wing' followed by seedling and line selections at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2005. Growth and flowering characteristic tests were conducted from 2000 to 2005. "Golden Amor" has large double type flower with bright golden color (RHS 12B). It have multiple florets, good flower shape, upright leaves and stalks. The average yield of "Golden Amor" was 6.0 cuttings per plant in greenhouse carried out from 2003 to 2005. It has good production of cormlets, vigorous growth and resistance to Fusarium and virus. "Golden Amor" would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.

  • Lilium longiflorum 'Charm' as a $F_1$ hybrid cultivar was released by crossing inbred line '$L_2$-14' and '$L_2$-21' which were obtained from 5 self crosses originated from 'Nellie White', 'Ace' and 'Hinomoto'. The growth and flowering characteristics were evaluated in a greenhouse maintained at a minimum of $13^{\circ}C$ at night during winter in 2006 and 2007. The flower of 'Charm' is white color and horizontal-facing. The flower number of a plant and its diameter is 7.4 and 16.5 cm with 24.5 ornamental(flowering) days. The plant height is 60.3 cm with 70.3 number of leaves. The stem diameter and internode length is 1.2 cm and 1.1 cm, respectively, meaning the plant is compact and sturdy. And the number of seed per a capsule is 251.1. The results of these evaluation, therefore, suggest that seedling Lilium longiflorum 'Charm' can be used as a pot plant due to its short stems, many number of flowers per plant, long ornamental period, strong growth habit with many leaves and thick stem diameter.

  • A new spray chrysanthemum(Dendranthema grandiflorum Ramat.) cultivar 'Yes Arang' was originated from a cross between 'NOA' and 'SP03-05-04'. This cultivar was tested on the characteristics from 2005 to 2007 for the evaluation and selection including shading and retarding culture. The natural flowering time of 'Yes Arang' is late October. This cultivar was yellow in color, single in flower type for the spray type cut-flower. The diameters of flower and flower center were 4.3 cm and 1.2 cm, respectively. Year round production was possible by shading or lighting treatment. Its number of flowers was 15.1 per plant. In natural and forcing cultivation, the days to flowering was 7 weeks after short day treatment. It has resistance to white rust and the vase life was about 17.2 days in autumn season.

  • Cymbidium 'Honey Girl' was developed in 2005 by the National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration. This cultivar came from cross between Cym. 'Yakoto' and Cym. 'Marian Simplicity' in 1995. Fifty seven seedlings were obtained after planting and acclimatization in green house. In 1999, a line was selected by its performance such as flower color, leaf shape, flower stalk, and vigorous growth which was named 'Wongyo F1-13'. The line code '9521928'($V_2$) had uniformity and excellent characteristics. The selected line was named as 'Honey Girl' after second characteristics test. This cultivar had white color ('WN 155B') and medium sized leaves and flowers (average leaf length is about 57 cm and width of flower is about 7.7cm) with many flowers and erect flower stalks. Blooming begins from the end of November to December under the normal culture conditions.

  • This study surveyed the altitudinal diversity and distribution of butterflies inhabiting Mt. Jirisan. Field surveys were conducted thrice (May, June, and July) using a line transect method along four routes in 2015. During the survey, a total of five families, 58 species, and 769 individuals were collected. Of the species collected, the majority belonged to the family Nymphalidae (28 species), followed by Hesperiidae (nine species), Pieridae (eight species), Lycaenidae (seven species), and Papilionidae (six species). As for the individuals, Pieridae accounted for the largest number (333 individuals), followed by Nymphalidae (309 individuals), Lycaenidae (63 individuals), Hesperiidae (33 individuals), and Papilionidae (31 individuals). A cluster analysis performed on the butterfly species distinguished three altitude zones. The butterflies showed different ecological traits in each of the altitude zones. Analysis of the altitudes of the habitats of eight dominant species revealed that each species inhabited a particular altitude. This study confirmed the hypothesis that continuous monitoring will identify changes in the altitudinal distribution and diversity of butterflies on Mt. Jirisan in response to climate change.
