  • The labio-palatal location of the implant in the maxillary anterior region is one of the important factors affecting the aesthetics of the implant prosthesis. However, the thin labial bone of maxilla could be absorbed in significant amounts after extraction of the teeth, which makes the implant be placed on the palatal side rather than the ideal location. In fact, in the cases of maxillary central incisor loss, UCLA was used for prosthetic restoration of palatally placed implant. In addition, with multidisciplinary treatment, GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration) was performed for compensating the absorbed alveolar bone and adjacent anterior tooth were aligned. Definitive restoration was performed after confirming aesthetic recovery of the gingiva with sufficient provisional restoration period. There were satisfactory results of functional and esthetic recovery of tooth loss through implant prosthesis.

  • The purpose of this analysis was to classify music therapy studies published in KCI journals to understand the type of research being conducted and trends in the research. This study analyzed 472 music therapy articles published in KCI journals from 2005 to October 31, 2017. The study analyzed the overall characteristics of the included studies, trends in each research field, study subjects, research types, and commonalities and differences between research fields. It was confirmed that the number of music therapy studies published in KCI journals steadily increased from 2005. The results also confirmed that the research subjects and types of music therapy research became more diverse. For example, earlier studies focused on participants with disabilities, but populations without disabilities were increasingly the focus of more recent studies. Similarly, earlier studies were mostly experimental or descriptive, but more recent research included historical, philosophical, and program development studies. The results of analysis confirm that music therapy research is evolving and being conducted in cooperation with many other fields. This article provides a snapshot of the current state of music therapy research and offers implications for the future of music therapy research with multidisciplinary characteristics.

  • Despite various treatments, there is a tendency of convicted sex offenders to recidivate by committing additional sex crimes. Especially when the offenders are diagnosed comorbidly with paraphilia and personality disorders, effective treatment is critical because this difficult condition can be harmful to their psychological well-being and the security of the communities in which these men live. The aim of this review is to examine the comorbidity of personality disorders and paraphilia in the male sex offender population. This study is highly meaningful as not only it is the first domestic research on the link between paraphilia and sex crimes, integrating the preceding data from both domestic and international research, but also as it synthesizes the studies of criminal psychology, social welfare and clinical psychology.

  • We aimed to provide evidences for developing non-pharmacological intervention in older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI) by integrated literature review. The final 16 papers were selected as a result of an integrated literature analysis. All of them are focused on strengthening cognitive activities, while Korean studies have often merged emotional activities such as music therapy and laughter therapy rather than physical activities such as exercise therapy, international studies have combined physical activities rather than emotional activities. The effects of non-pharmacological intervention differed according to the outcome variables. The primary variables were cognitive function and depression, and secondary variables were found to have effects on physical function, activities of daily living (ADL), and self-efficacy. This study contributes to a multidisciplinary approach that can be applied in the clinical field through the development of various non-pharmaceutical intervention for the prevention of dementia in the older adults with MCI.

  • With the recent growth of the big data technology market, interest in visualization technology has steadily increased over the past few years. Data visualization is currently used in a wide range of disciplines such as information science, computer science, human-computer interaction, statistics, data mining, cartography, and journalism, each with a slightly different meaning. Big data visualization in smart cities that require multidisciplinary research enables an objective and scientific approach to developing user-centered smart city services and related policies. In particular, spatial-based data visualization enables efficient collaboration of various stakeholders through visualization data in the process of establishing city policy. In this paper, a user-centered spatial big data visualization expression request method was derived by examining the spatial-based big data visualization expression process and principle from the viewpoint of effective information delivery, not just a visualization tool.

  • Most universities are attempting educational innovation through multidisciplinary approaches, such as interdisciplinary programs and convergent majors, to nurture convergent talents in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The purpose of this study is to identify the priorities of the educational needs of students who complete the interdisciplinary program and to find its effective operation plan. For this purpose, research was conducted to search for the university-level support required to vitalize the interdisciplinary program by doing focus group interviews with students who have participated in the interdisciplinary program. And the final priority was derived by applying the t-test, Borich's need assessment model, and The Locus for Focus Model, using online research. As a result of the analysis, 'formation and operation of dedicated organizations' and 'dedicated classrooms and practice rooms' were deduced as factors to be considered as a top priority, 'curriculum specialization,' 'interdisciplinary program scholarship support,' 'interdisciplinary program promotion,' and 'assignment of dedicated teaching assistants' were derived as secondary consideration factors. Based on these research results, a plan of vitalizing the educational needs for the interdisciplinary program at university and its implications were suggested.

  • Objectives To initiate and develop a treatment guideline in multidisciplinary approaches for related professions who are either working and/or living with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders who show behavioral problems. Methods To collect and reflect opinions from multiple professions who assumedly have different interventions or mediations on behavioral problems, a self-report survey and Focus Group Interview (FGI) were conducted for a group of child and adolescent psychiatrists, behavioral therapists, special education teachers, social welfare workers, and caregivers. Results According to a self-report survey and FGI results from multiple professional groups, aggressive behavior is the mostly common behavioral problem necessitating urgent interventions. However, both mainly used intervention strategies and effective treatment methods were different depending on professional backgrounds, such as pharmacological treatment, parent training, and behavior therapy, even though they shared an importance of improving communication skills. In addition, there was a common understanding of necessity to include parent training in a guideline. Lastly the data suggested lack of proper treatment facilities, qualified behavior therapists, and lack of standardized treatment guideline in the field needed to be improved for a quality of current therapeutic services. Conclusion It is supported that several subjects should be included in the guidelines, such as how to deal with aggressive behavior, parent training, and biological aspects of neurodevelopmental disorders. Also, it is expected that publishing the guideline would be helpful to above multiple professions as it is investigated that there are lack of treatment facility and qualified behavioral therapists compared to need at the moment.

  • End-stage liver disease (ESLD) is a terminal condition of cirrhosis which cannot be treated without liver transplantation. Thus, it is natural for patients to consider hospice/palliative care (HPC). Since the recent legislation of the Act on Decisions on Life-Sustaining Treatment for Patients in Hospice and Palliative Care or at the End of Life (Act No. 14013) in Korea, the practicality of this law has become an issue. The criteria for HPC should be defined with consideration to how the severity of each ESLD complication may vary by individual patients. Generally, patients qualify if they have an intractable condition despite aggressive treatment such as the hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy or variceal hemorrhage. However, the option of liver transplantation should be sufficiently discussed with patients and their families before making a decision on HPC. The evaluation of which ESLD patients should receive HPC should be based on a long-term doctor-patient relationship and sufficient objective data. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach and mutual consultation among cirrhosis specialists and doctors with other expertise are essential to offer optimal and balanced treatments between liver-specific treatment and HPC. Discussed in this review are adequate criteria for HPC and special considerations for ESLD at the point of HPC.

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome(CRPS) is a chronic neruopathic pain syndrome, most frequently encountered after trauma, nerve injury, fracture, cerebral vascular accident(CVA), spinal injury, and surgery to a limb, and affected by diverse factors such as disease process, intervention method, and other biopsychosocial components. Occupational therapy as a multidisciplinary treatment approach may be potentially useful when simultaneously targeting such biological, psychological, and social components. Biological treatment can focus on increasing functional use of extremity for promoting independence. Psychological intervention can include relaxation/biofeedback training and cognitive-behavioral treatments, and social approach can focus on recreational therapy and vocational rehabilitation. Occupational therapy will encourage functional restoration, pain management, and regaining of psychological components with collaboration between different disciplines.

  • Food insecurity is associated with poor health outcomes. In particular, previous studies marked the adverse outcomes on mental health. This study examined the association of food insecurity and mental health in Korean adults using the data from the 2013 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The study population was 5,685 adults in Korea. Food insecurity was examined using 18-items. A diagnosis of depression was considered to be depression. Depressive symptoms were defined as more than 2 weeks of depression feelings. Multivariate logistic regression models examined the associations between food insecurity and depression and depressive symptom. The overall prevalence of depression was 3.8% in the participants. Food insecurity was associated significantly with depression and depressive symptom in the unadjusted and age and sex adjusted model. Food insecurity was associated with depression, depressive symptoms in the multivariate logistic regression model (OR:3.49, OR:3.70). Marginal food insecurity was not associated with depression in the multivariate logistic regression model. The results showed that food insecurity is associated with depression and depressive symptoms in adults. Multi-disciplinary interventions are needed including nutrition, health, health policy, and a healthy environment for the food insecurity group to achieve a better health outcome, especially mental health.
