  • Microbubble technology has been widely applied in various industrial fields. Recently, research on many types of microbubble application technology has been conducted experimentally, but there is a limit in deriving the optimal design and operating conditions. Therefore, if the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of multiphase flow is used to supplement these experimental studies, it is expected that the time and cost required for prototype production and evaluation tests will be minimized and optimal results will be derived. However, few studies have been conducted on multiphase flow CFD analysis to interpret fluid flow in microbubble generators using swirl flow. In this study, CFD simulation of multiphase flow was performed to analyze the air-water mixing process and fluid flow characteristics in a microbubble generator with a dual-chamber structure. Based on the simulation results, it was confirmed that a negative pressure was formed on the central axis of rotation due to the strong swirling flow. And it could be seen that the air inside the suction tube was introduced into the inner chamber of the microbubble generator. In addition, as the high-speed mixed fluid collided with external water sucked by the negative pressure near the outlet, a large amount of microbubbles was ejected due to the shear force between the two flows flowing in opposite directions.

  • In this study, an analysis of the thermo-fluid dynamic and missile-motion performance was carried out through a numerical simulation inside the missile canister. Calculation was made in an analytical volume using dynamic grid and evaporated water was used as a coolant. To analyze the interaction among the hot gas, coolant, and mixture flow, Realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence and VOF (Volume Of Fluid) model were chosen and a parametric study was performed with the change of coolant flow rate. As a result of the analysis, pressure of the canister showed a large difference depending on the presence or absence of the coolant, and also showed a dependancy on the amount of coolant. Velocity and acceleration were dependent on the canister pressure.

  • The numerical program has been developed for the purpose of the complicate geometries application using CIP method. The non-staggered, non-orthogonal, and unstructured grid system can be also used for the various geometries in the program. For validating CIP solver, the lid-driven cavity flow and solitary wave propagation flow are carried out. Test results show a good agreement with the verified results. The dynamic solver was used for the behavior of moving body. Interface process between the two solvers is introduced. The research was performed on the flow problem around torpedo and log and the flow problem in a tank in order to analyze the three phase flow problem Although the comparison to the verified results was not quantitatively performed, the trend of the results was reasonable.

  • Using the numerical code for the interior ballistics, the performance of the interior ballistics with the characteristics according to the position of the solid propellant in chamber has been investigated. In existing research, propellants have been evenly distributed in the chamber. In this study, however, several cases of the existence of empty space in the chamber at which the propellants are not evenly distributed are considered. The 7-perforated propellant configuration has been used in this research. The results have shown the change of performance of the interior ballistics according to solid propellant positions in the chamber.

  • Bubble rising phenomenon is widely founded in many industrial applications such as a stream generator in power plant. Many experimental and numerical researches have been already performed to predict dynamic behavior of the bubble rising process. Recently numerical approaches are getting popular since it can offer much detailed information which is almost impossible to obtain from the experiments. Rising bubble could penetrate through the top free surface which makes the problem much more complicate in addition to the phase changing effect even with latest numerical techniques. In this paper, the top free surface effect on rising bubble has been investigated. The gas-liquid interface was explicitly tracked using high-order Level Contour Reconstruction Method(LCRM) which is a hybridization of Front-Tracking and Level-Set method. Break-up behavior of rising bubble at free surface showed different characteristics with initial diameter of bubble.

  • Interface tracking of two phase is significant to analyze multi-phase phenomena. The VOF(Volume of Fluid) and level set are well known interface tracking method. However, they have limitations to solve compressible flow and incompressible flow at the same time. CIP(Cubic Interpolate Propagation) method is appropriate for considering compressible and incompressible flow at once by solving the governing equation which is divided up into advection and non-advection term. In this article, we analyze the droplet impingement according to various We number using improved CIP method which treats nonlinear term once more comparison with original CIP method. Furthermore, we compare spread radius after droplet impingement on the wall with the experimental data and original CIP original CIP method, and it reduces the mass conservation error which is generated in the numerical analysis comparison with original CIP method.

  • In many industrial applications, multiphase flow analysis is the norm rather than an exception as compared to more-conventional single-phase investigation. This paper describes the implementation of the multiphase flow simulation capability in the general purpose CFD software AVL FIRE/SWIFT. The governing equations are discretized based on a finite volume method (FVM) suitable fur very complex geometry, The pressure field is obtained using the SIMPLE algorithm. Depending on the characteristics of the multiphase flow to be examined, the user can choose either the two-fluid model or an explicit interface-tracking model based on the Volume-of-Fluid approach. For truly 'multi'-phase flow problems, it is also possible to apply a hybrid model where certain phases are explicitly tracked while the other phases are handled by the two fluid model. In order to demonstrate the capability of the method, applications to the Taylor bubble flow simulations are presented.

  • As one of the promising model on the multiphase fluid mixtures, the Lattice-Boltzmann Method(LBM) is being developed to simulate flows containing two immisible components which are different mass values. The equilibrium function in the LBM can have a nonideal gas model for the equation of state and use the interfacial energy for the phase separation effect. An example on the phase separation has been carried out through the time evolution. The LBM based on the statistic mechanics is appropriate to solve very complicated flow problems and this model gives comparative merits rather than the continuum mechanics model.

  • The flotation performance of the induced gas flotation (IGF) machine is considerably influenced by geometric configurations of rotor and stator. The interaction of rotor and stator, which are the most important components in IGF, serves to mix the air bubbles. Thus, the understanding of flow characteristics and consequential analysis on the machine are essential for the optimal design of IGF. In this study, two-phase (water and air) flow characteristics in the forced-air mechanically stirred Dorr-Oliver flotation cell was investigated using ANSYS CFX. In addition, the void fraction and the velocity distributions are determined and presented with different blade configurations.
