  • This paper proposes a method to predict the number of foodborne disease outbreaks by microbes. The weekly data of food poisoning occurrences by microbes in Korea contain many zero-valued observations and have dependency between outbreaks. In order to model both phenomena, the number of food poisonings is predicted by an autoregressive model and the probabilities of food poisoning occurrences by microbes (given the total of food poisonings) are estimated by the baseline category logit model. The predicted number of foodborne disease outbreaks by a microbe is obtained by multiplying the predicted number of foodborne disease outbreaks and the estimated probability of the food poisoning by the corresponding microbe. The mean squared error and the mean absolute value error are evaluated to compare the performances of the proposed method and the zero-inflated model.

  • This article studies on disability pensioners' characteristic with multinomial logit and logistic regression model. Seven factors are examined on whether each factor is reflected in degree of disability in the disability pension. By incorporating multinomial logit and logistic regression model, effectiveness and characteristic of the seven factors are investigated on the degree of disability. Result shows all the seven factors are significant on the degree of disability, while among the seven, five factors, age, sex, type of coverage, type of category, insured duration show a trend in degree of disability and the other two, cause of disability and class of standard monthly income are not effective on trend in degree of disability. Results from analyses might be useful for disability pension management.

  • The purpose of this study was to perform a convergence study for the investigation of the trend of research topics related to thyroid cancer in Korea. We collected related research papers from DBpia and employed LDA-based topic model. In result, we identified four research topics, each of which concerns "Surgery", "Disease aggressiveness", "Survival analysis", and "Well-being of patients". With multinomial logistic regression, we found significant time trend, where "Surgery"-related topic was popular before 2000, topics regarding "Disease aggressiveness" and "Survival analysis" were frequently addressed in the 2000s, and "Survival analysis" and especially "Well-being of patients" have been pursued since 2010. The findings would serve as a reference guide for research directions. Future work may examine whether the recent change in research topics is observed in other diseases.

  • This study aims to identify research topics and examine the trend of Covid19-related papers on DBpia. Applying latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), we have extracted seven research topics, each of which concerns "International Dynamics", "Technology & Security", "Psychological Impact", "Biomedical-Related", "Economic Impact", "Online Education", and "Religion-Related". In addition, we used the multinomial logistic model to examine the trend of research topics. We found that the papers mainly cover topics related to "International Dynamics" and "Biomedical-Related" before June 2020, but the topics have become diverse since then. In particular, topics regarding "Economic Impact", "Online Education" and "Psychological Impact" has drawn increased attention of researchers. The findings would provide a guideline for collaboration in Covid19-related research, and could serve as a reference work for active research.

  • Establishments of wholesale of recycling materials are located in the region where an amount of recyclable wastes generated as artery industry developed and the region of rather many population. And they are located not in underpopulated area as noxious facilities, but located in the non-residential area of many population regions in the whole country. Also, establishments of recycling of metal wastes and scrap, and non-metal wastes and scrap are mainly located in the peripheral region of metropolitan cities, regional centered cities, and adjacent regions of industrial area, because of high coefficient of localization, and agglomerated effects of production. The factor influencing the location of recycling industries is deeply connected with the location of wholesale of recycling materials, and thus, the transportation costs to carry recycling materials from supplied regions to plants are important but population is not so important.
