A Study of Staged Swirling Combustion of Natural gas (천연가스 다단연소기술 연구)

  • 본“천연가스 다단연소기술 연구”는, 공업적으로 널리 쓰이는 선회확산 방식으로 천연가스를 연소시킬 때 그 연소 특성과 발생되는 환경오염물질인 일산화탄소(CO)와 질소산화물(NOX)의 저감에 대한 연구로서, 천연가스의 난류확산화염과 선회확산화염의 유동장, 온도장, 농도장을 실험과 수치해석을 통하여 분석하여 각각 연소방식의 화염구조와 특성을 규명하고 해석하였다. 그리고 그 결과를 토대로하여 다단확산 연소실험 장치를 제작 다단확산연소의 중요한 인자인 1차당량비, 2차공기주입위치, 유속, 선회도 등을 변화시켜 질소산화물 저감과 높은 연소효율을 얻을 수 있는 최적의 연소조건을 찾아 내었다. 본고에서는 실험부분만을 간추려 발표하고 수치해석 부분은 다음 기회로 미루고자 한다.

Improment of Diesel Combustion using multiple injection under Cold Start Condition (냉시동 조건에서 디젤 연소 특성 및 연소 개선에 대한 연구)

  • Startability and harmful emissions are the main issues in diesel engine development under cold conditions. The characteristics of combustion with multiple injection were investigated under cold start conditions. For quantitative analysis, the in-chamber pressure profile was measured and combustion visualization using direct imaging was accomplished. With multiple injection, the peak in-chamber pressure and heat release rate were increased compared to single injection. In addition, the period of flame luminosity detection was shortened using multiple injection. Combustion by main injection was improved with an increase in heat released by pilot combustion when the pilot injection quantity was increased. Finally, an increase in injection pressure also showed the possibility of combustion improvement. On the other hand, an increase of in the pilot injection quantity and injection pressure can cause an increase in harmful emissions, such as HC and CO due to wall wetting. Therefore, more sensitive calibration will be needed when applying a multiple injection strategy under cold start conditions.

Influence of Flame Holder on Film Cooling Effectiveness of Ramjet Combustor (화염안정기 형상이 램제트 연소실에서의 슬롯 막냉각 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect of the flame holder on the multi-slot film cooling in the ramjet combustor. The turbulent wake which is generated by the flame holder on the entrance of the coolant flow path affects on the slot. Adiabatic film cooling effectiveness on the downstream wall of the slot exit are measured. The results show that the film cooling performance is rapidly decreased after the slot exit by shear layer and high turbulence intensity between separated flows and coolant flows.

  • 본 연구에서 적용한 저 NOx 연소법의 NOx 저감 효과를 비교해 보면 다단 연소법이 지연연소 효과와 국부적인 최고 화염온도 감소, 고온부에서의 산소농도 감소효과 등이 동시에 나타나 저 과잉공기 연소법, 배기가스 재순환법, 이단 연소법 보다 더 큰 NOx 저감효과를 얻을 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 다만, 총 공급공기 량에 대한 분할 공급공기량의 비가 일정수준 이상으로 커지면 CO 발생량 증가로 효율저하 등의 문제점이 우려되므로 연소상태를 저하시키지 않는 공급비를 산정하는 것이 중요할 것으로 생각된다.

  • Ignition delay of second injection of HSDI diesel engine was usually much shorter than that of first injection. It is due to the interaction between radicals generated during the combustion process, and mixed gas of second injection. In this paper, To analyze combustion phenomena of multiple injection mode in HSDI diesel engine effectively, two-dimensional flamelet combustion model was modified. To reduce calculation time, two-dimensional flamelet equations were only applied near stoichiometric region. If this region was ignited, species and temperature of other region were changed to the steady-state solutions of one dimensional flamelet equations. By this method calculation time for solving flamelet equations was reduced to 20 percents, thought the results were almost same. Modified flamelet combustion model was coupled to commercial CFD code interactively using user subroutine.

Influence of the Vertical Flame holder on Heat Transfer Characteristics of Ramjet Combustor (세로축 화염안정기 형상이 램제트 연소실에서의 열전달 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This experimental study has been conducted to investigate the installation of the vertical flame holder shape in ramjet combustor, which affects on the film cooling effectiveness. All slot position, the film cooling effectiveness decreases because of the shear layer and high turbulence intensity between separated flows and coolant flows. When the flame holder is installed, film cooling effectiveness decreases abruptly on the beginning of the slot exit region due to the mixing effect. As the blowing rate increases, the film cooling effectiveness is increased for all cases due to the augmented momentum of injected coolant from the slot.

  • The objective of this research is to determine generally applicable design principles for the development of internally staged combustion devices. Utilizing a triple annulus combustor, the detailed combustion characteristics are studied. For this triple air staged combustor, the angular momentum weighted by it#s swirl number and air distribution ratio was observed to be the critical criteria of NOx emission. An internal recirculation zone which develops on the centerline of the flame immediately downstream of the burner entraps the fuel into a fuel rich eddy. Then sufficient heat must be transferred from the flame via radiation to the chamber heat transfer surfaces, such that the peak flame temperatures are suppressed when the second air is introduced. It is experimentally found out that the total NOx emission level in this type of burner is below 50ppm(3% Ref. O2) at optimum operating conditions.

  • Experimental investigations were conducted to understand the multi-staged combustion characteristics of a swirl-stabilized double cone premixed burner nozzle used for industrial gas turbines for power generation. Multi-staged combustion is implemented by injecting the fuel through the existing manifold of the side slots as well as through the apex of the cone with two fuel injection angles which are slanted or axial. NOx and CO emissions, and wall temperature distributions were measured for various fuel distributions and operating conditions. Results show that NOx emissions are decreased when the fuel distribution to the apex is 3% of the total amount of fuel, which is due to more uniform fuel distribution inside the nozzle, hence less hot spots at the flame. NOx emissions are rather increased when the fuel distribution to the apex is 8% of the total amount of fuel for axial fuel injection by occurrence of flash back in premixing zone of burner.

  • An experimental study on the NOx formation of LNG flame in fuel staged combustor has been studied. The design concept of multi fuel/air staged combustor is creation of two separate flame, a primary flame is a act as a pilot flame for the secondary combustion stage combustion zone, where most of fuel bums. Experiments were performed on a semi-industrial scale (thermal input 0.233 MW) in a laboratory furnace and Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) was used as a primary and secondary fuels. This study included parametric study to identify the optimum operating conditions which are primary/secondary fuel ratio, and primary/secondary air ratio for reducing NOx emission with two types of nozzle. The test demonstrated that NOx emission can be reduced by >70% in accordance with operating conditions.
