The present study was aimed to evaluate the removal of the trace pollutants (heavy metals and microplastics) in the sewage treatment plant by using the jellyfish Extract at Immunity reaction (JEI) of Aurelia coerulea. The experiment was conducted on two different scales: the lab scale using a Jar-tester and the Pilot system scale equipped with two newly developed devices in the laboratory, the active tube connection mixed system and the concentration integrated separation device. Compared to anionic polymers currently used in the field, JEI showed similar or higher efficiency to remove the trace pollutants. When JEI was added to the effluent through the Pilot system, the combination of JEI and the trace pollutants was maximized through two mixing processes, and as a result, the removal rate of the trace pollutants was greatly improved. Based on these results, we propose the present technology as an alternative to removing trace pollutants that can reduce ecosystem risk and minimize the generation of inorganic waste, away from the existing method.
Machine learning techniques utilizing neural networks have been employed in various fields such as disease gene discovery and diagnosis, drug development, and prediction of drug-induced liver injury. Disease features can be investigated by molecular information of DNA. In this study, we developed a neural network to predict the length of DNA and the number of DNA species in mixture solution which are representative molecular information of DNA. In order to address the time-consuming limitations of gel electrophoresis as conventional analysis, we analyzed the dynamic data of a microfluidic concentrating device. The dynamic data were reconstructed into a spatiotemporal map, which reduced the computational cost required for training and prediction. We employed a convolutional neural network to enhance the accuracy to analyze the spatiotemporal map. As a result, we successfully performed single DNA length prediction as single-variable regression, simultaneous prediction of multiple DNA lengths as multivariable regression, and prediction of the number of DNA species in mixture as binary classification. Additionally, based on the composition of training data, we proposed a solution to resolve the problem of prediction bias. By utilizing this study, it would be effectively performed that medical diagnosis using optical measurement such as liquid biopsy of cell-free DNA, cancer diagnosis, etc.

This study was conducted to compare STQ method, multi-residue method in Korean food code and QuEChERS method for validated selected and accuracy, reproducibility and efficiency. A total of 45 selected and targeted pesticides were the analyzed by GC and 5 of them were crops (apple, potato, green pepper, rice, soy bean). $R^2$ values were calculated in the standard calibration curve was over 0.990. Recovery tests were performed by three replications in two levels and the relative standard deviation of the repeated experiments was less than 30%. The average percentage of recoveries in the multi-residue method in Korean food code was 89.13%, QuEChERS method was 92.45% and STQ method was 85.28%. In addition, matrix effects in multi-residue method in Korean food code was 24.61%, QuEChERS method was 23.98% and STQ method showed 11.24%. The STQ method is easy and showed high clean-up effect in extracting the sample solution than the QuEChERS method and clean-up with C18, PLS, PSA cartridge columns. A large volume of the sample was injected in order to compensable for the problem, that occurred due to high detection limit in the analyser. When the STQ method was applied using a large volume injector, the standard calibration curve showed a higher linearity $R^2=0.990$, and method detection limit was 0.01 mg/kg. It showed an average recovery of 91.84% and the relative standard deviations of three replications repeated in two level process was less than 30% and had an average matrix effect of 17.90%.

The belief that stress leads to illness has a long history. A number of the orofacial disease are also closely associated with stress. Despite research in the relationship of stress and the orofacial diseases leading to statistically significant correlations, the pathology remains vague. In the present study, the expression of clusterin, a stress protein responsible for antiapoptosis and cytoprotection, under restraint stress condition was observed in the submandibular gland, one of the major salivary glands. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 2 groups: normal group and restraint stress group. The rats of restraint stress group were placed in the stress cages and then sacrificed at day 0, 3 and 5 day of the experiment. After that, the submandibular glands of all the rats were excised immediately. The levels of clusterin proteins and mRNA in the tissues were measured by immunohistochemistry and Northern blot analyses, respectively. The results were as follows: 1. In the immunohistochemistry, clusterin protein was detected only immediately after the application of restraint stress. 2. In the restraint stress group, at day 3 and 5, histologically apoptosis was induced with karyorrhectic and pyknotic changes. 3. By the restraint stress, acinic cells were destructed earlier than ductal cells. 4. In the Northern blot, mRNA of clusterin was expressed only immediately after the application of restraint stress. The overall results suggest that as an early response to stress, clusterin is expressed in the glands to protect the glandular cells from the stress. But if stress is so strong and prolonged that it can exceed the stress adaptability of the cells, then the cells may undergo apoptosis instead of producing clusterin. Glycomacropeptide(GMP) was purified from cheese whey which is obtaining as a byproduct in cheese producing. Cheese whey was first concentrated 10 times with a ultrafiltration aparratus, and then heated at 95$^{\circ}C$ for 5 min. The concentrated fraction was centrifuged at 20,000$\times$g for 30 min to remove fat layer. The supernatant layer enriched GMP protein was fractionated by ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose Fast Flow column. GMP was bound to DEAE resin and eluted with 0.1~0.25 M NaCl when using a linear NaCl gradient from 0 M to 0.5 M. The purified GMP gave a single band of 24 kDa which seems to be trimer molecular weight in SDS-PAGE, and migrated to the same molecular weight with control GMP obtained commercially. Its amino acid composition were consistent with that of standard GMP. About 0.71 g of GMP was recovered from 1 L of cheese whey. These results indicate that glycomacropeptide could be simply purified from cheese whey by using ultrafiltration and DEAE column chromatography.

To confirm whether or not the Electrochemical Disinfection System (EDS) meet with the D-2 regulation established by IMO (International Maritime Organization), the biological treatment efficacy of the EDS was assessed using three groups of natural marine plankton (bacteria, $10-50\;{\mu}m$ and $>50\;{\mu}m$ sized organisms). Influent water was passed through the EDS under the flow velocity ($23.8\;m^3/hr$) and test design was consisted of control (no treatment) and experimental (10 ppm and 30 ppm) condition for total residual chlorine (TRC). And the biological condition of the influent water followed the standards established by the guidelines for the approval of ballast water management systems. The disinfection efficacy of the $10-50\;{\mu}m$ sized organisms (phytoplankton) was assessed by three kinds of measurements using photomicroscope, epifluorescence microscope and fluorometer (fumer Designs 10-AU). After being passed through the EDS, all motile phytoplankton lost their motility under photomicroscope, the colour of chlorophyll fluorescence fumed from red into green under epifluorescence, and the high chlorophyll fluorescence (Expt. 1: 6.95, Expt. 2: 7.11) detected by fluorometer decreased into value not detected. These results indicated phytoplankton community was totally killed after electrochemical disinfection treatment. Survivorship of the larger organisms than $50\;{\mu}m$ was determined based on the appendage's movement under a stereomicroscope. Natural assemblage collected from ambient seawater was killed shortly after being passed through the EDS, whereas some Artemia remained alive. However, no live Artemia was found after 24 hour further exposure to each TRC concentration (10 and 30 ppm) under darkness. After electrochemical treatment, the target bacteria such as aerobes, coliform and Escherichia coli were completely killed on the basis of CFU (colony forming unit) on Petrifilm plate ($3\;M^{TM}$) after 48 hr incubation. Moreover, no regrowth was found in the three groups of plankton during five days under additional exposure to the treated water. These results indicated that the disinfection efficiency of the EDS on the three groups of plankton satisfy D-2 regulation.
Sorafenib is a multikinase inhibitor and an oral anticancer drug approved for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma and those with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient method of the determination of sorafenib in human plasma using tandem mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography (LC/MS/MS) and validate the method by the guidelines of the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). Plasma samples ($100{\mu}l$) were added with chlorantraniliprole as an internal standard and then mixed with the 0.1% formic acid-containing extraction solution composed of isopropyl alcohol and ethyl acetate (1:4, v/v). After centrifugation, the supernatant was concentrated at $45^{\circ}C$ under negative pressure and centrifugal force. The residue was reconstituted with a mobile phase and injected into the HPLC instrument using a reverse phase Waters XTerra$^{TM}$ C18 column (particle size $3.5{\mu}m$). Liquid chromatography was carried out within the run time of 5 min using a mobile phase composed of buffer (0.1% formic acid and 10 mM ammonium formate), methanol, and acetonitrile (1:6:3, v/v/v). The analytes were monitored by tandem mass spectrometry in the multiple reaction monitoring method programmed to detect sorafenib at 'm/z 465.2 ${\rightarrow}$ 252.5' and chlorantraniliprole at 'm/z 484.4 ${\rightarrow}$ 286.2' with positive electrospray ionization mode ($ES^+$). The result showed the proper linearity ($r^2$ > 0.99) over the range of 2,000-5,000 ng/ml with good accuracy (90.7-103.9%) and precision (less than 10%). The newly developed method using LC/MS/MS was validated by the guideline of KFDA and identified as more sensitive compared to the previous methods.

The antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of grapefruit seed extract(GFSE), which was extracted with glycerine in the special schematic extraction apparatus, were investigated for handling and processing of fishery products. The effectivity of GFSE has been tried on sardine, mackerel and shrimp divided into six lots for each fishery product: control(no treatment) and five GFSE-treated samples. Samples were inoculated with Salmenella typhi, incubated for 24hrs at $30^{\circ}C$ in dextrose-tryptone broth medium and prepared for microbiological 8f chemical analysis and organoleptic assessment. The bacteriological analytical results with GFSE(250ppm) showed the reduction of $1.8\times10^6\to2.0\times10^4,\;1.9\times10^6\to1.8\times10^4$ and $1.6\times10^6\to2.7\times10^3$ in total bacterial count for sardine, mackerel and shrimp, respectively. The test results with GFSE(500ppm) showed a $100\%$ reduction of bacterial mackerel treated with GFSE(500ppm) was reduced to $1.1\times10^4$ and $9.0\times10^3$ respectively. Antioxidant effect of treatment with GFSE at 500ppm level for three products was significant. LSD test results on organoleptic parameter for the samples treated with various showed a significant influence on the appearance, odor and texture in which at concentration 500ppm level give the excellent scours compared to each control.

As a part of investigation to use the Anatrctic krill, Euphausia superba, more effectively as a food source, processing conditions, utilizations and storage stability of krill paste (intermediate product of krill) were examined and also chemical compositions of krill paste were analyzed. Frozen raw krill was chopped, agitated with $25\%$ of water to the minced krill and then centrifuged to separate the liquid fraction from the residue. This liquid fraction was heated at $98^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. to coagulate the proteins of krill, and it was filtered to separate the protein fraction. Krill paste was prepared with grinding the protein fraction, adding $0.2\%$ of polyphosphate and $0.3\%$ of sodium erythorbate to the krill paste for enhancing of functional properties and quality stability. The krill paste was packed in a carton box, and then stored at $-30^{\circ}C$. Chemical compositions of krill paste were as follows : moisture $78\%$, crude protein $12.9\%$, crude lipid $5.9\%$, and the contents of hazardous elements of krill paste as Hg 0.001 ppm, Cd 1.15 ppm, Zn 9.1 ppm, Pb 0.63 ppm and Cu 11.38ppm were safe for food. The amino acid compositions of krill paste showed relatively high amount of taurine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine, lysine and arginine, which occupied $55\%$ of total amino acid and also taurine, lysine, glycine, arginine and proline were occupied $65\%$ of total free amino acid. Fatty acid compositions of krill paste consist of $32.4\%$ of saturated fatty acid, $29.6\%$ of monoenoic acid and $38.0\%$ of polyenoic acid, and major fatty acids of product were eicosapentaenoic acid ($17.8\%$), oleic acid ($16.9\%$), palmitic acid ($15.3\%$), myristic acid ($8.7\%$) and docosahexaenoic acid ($8.4\%$). In case of procssing of fish sausage as one of experiment for krill paste use, Alaska pollack fish meat paste could be substituted with the krill paste up to $30\%$ without any significant defect in taste and texture of fish sausage, and the color of fish sausage could be maintained by the color of krill paste. Judging from the results of chemical and microbial experiments during frozen storage, the quality of krill paste could be preserved in good condition for 100 days at $-39^{\circ}C$.
