Comparison of Mycoplasma Prevalence and Protection Rate of Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza between Traditional Cage and Animal Welfare Systems (복지농장과 일반농장간 마이코플라즈마 유병율 및 조류인플루엔자 저항성 비교)

  • In recent years, consumers have recognized the issue of and expressed concern over farm animal welfare. Therefore, worldwide, chicken farms are transitioning from traditional caged breeding systems to welfare-oriented breeding systems. In this study, we further analyzed and compared the prevalence and protection rate of various diseases by challenging chickens under conventional and welfare-oriented breeding conditions with low pathogenic avian influenza. Ten chickens were randomly selected from each farm (conventional and welfare) from which Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) were identified and isolated. Additionally, low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) were challenged to broilers from each farm and samples were collected from these chickens using oral and cloacal swabs to investigate viral shedding and titer. The results showed that Mycoplasma infection did not significantly differ between breeding systems. Initially, LPAI viral shedding and titer significantly differed between breeding systems post-challenge, but as the experiment progressed, there was ultimately no significant difference.

  • Implementing proper land management techniques, such as selecting the best crops and applying the best cultivation techniques at the farm level, is an effective way for farmers to adapt to climate change. Also it will be helpful if the farmer can get the information of agro-weather and the growth status of cultivating crops in real time and the simulated results of applying optional technologies. To test this, a system (web site) was developed to produce agro-weather data and crop growth information of farms by combining agricultural climate maps and crop growth modeling techniques to highland area for summer-season Chinese cabbage production. The system has been shown to be a viable tool for producing farm-level information and providing it directly to farmers. Further improvements will be required in the speed of information access, the microclimate models for some meteorological factors, and the crop growth models to test different options.

  • This paper contains the implementation and performance evaluation results of a system that collects environmental data at the time when the wild animal intrusion occurred at farms and then predicts future wild animal intrusions through a machine learning-based Vector Autoregression(VAR) model. To collect the data for intrusion prediction, an IoT-based hardware prototype was developed, which was installed on a small farm located near the school and simulated over a long period to generate intrusion events. The intrusion prediction service based on the implemented VAR model provides the date and time when intrusion is likely to occur over the next 30 days. In addition, the proposed system includes the function of providing real-time notifications to the farmers mobile device when wild animals intrusion occurs in the farm, and performance evaluation was conducted to confirm that the average response time was 7.89 seconds.
