  • Seasonal variation of species composition in the coastal waters off Wangdol-cho were investigated using the catches by gill net and trammel net from 2002 to 2004. A total of 58 species was collected and classified into 15 orders and 34 families. Of the 58 species identified, Scorpaeniformes and Perciformes accounted for 62.1% of the species. 35 species in 11 orders and 22 families were collected by gill net and 51 species in 15 orders and 30 families were collected by trammel net. The number of species was high in summer and autumn and lowest in winter. Catches were correlated with sea water temperature. The numbers of individuals and their biomass were 5,295 inds. and 1,890 kg, with the highest values achieved in summer and the lowest in spring. The most dominant species were Pleurogrammus azonus and Gadus macrocephalus. The seasonal species community showed a high similarity between summer and autumn.

  • Species composition and seasonal variations in abundance of fishes in the Nakdong River estuary were investigated using an otter trawl seasonally from September 2001 to July 2002. These data were compared with those obtained before the construction of the estuary barrage in 1987. A total of 3,648 fishes that comprised 30 species in 21 families were collected. Acanthogobius flavimanus and Leiognathus nuchalis predominated, and they were responsible for $71.2\%\;and\;67.8\%$ in the number of individuals and biomass, respectively. The next abundant fish species were Platycephalus indicus and Liparis tanakai. Compared with data obtained before the construction of the estuary barrage in 1987, abundances of Acanthogobius flavimanus, Platycephajus indicus, Liparis tanakai, Tridentiger trigonocephalus and Lateolabrax japonicus increased, while those of Pholis fangi, Repomucenus valenciennei, Sardineila zunasi and Scomber japonicus decreased. These results seems to be related to change of sediment environment caused by irregular discharge of freshwater with variation of sea water movement in the Nakdong River estuary.

  • To investigate the fishes of the Arafura Sea of Indonesia, fish specimens were collected by scientists on board Korean trawlers fishing in this region during June 1994 and March 1996. A total of 137 fish species were identified, of which 40 occurred in both 1994 and 1996. In cartilaginous fishes, fishes from the families Carcharhinidae and Dasyatididae were dominant in terms of number of species and in teleost fishes, dominant species were those from the families Engraulididae, Carangidae, Sciaenidae and Tetraodontidae. This study revealed that Sardinelia longiceps, Setipinna melanochir, Cypselurus hiraii, Podothecus sachi, Nemipterus aurora, Johnius grypotus, Moolgarda perusi were collected for the first time in the Arafura Sea.

  • Species composition and seasonal variation of fish assemblages in the western coastal waters of Jeju Island were determined using samples collected by a trammel net, gill net and fish pot in 2008. During the survey period, a total of 81 species (45 families and 13 orders) of fishes were identified, and Perciformes and Scorpaeniformes accounted for 69.1% of the total number. The number of species was higher in warm months than in cold months, showing a peak in July at 54 species and a low in April at 42 species. The number of individuals and the biomass peaked in September at 895 inds. and 135 kg, and were lowest in December at 450 inds. and 52 kg. The diversity indices of fish catches in trammel net and fish pot were 2.88~3.22 and 1.31~1.87, respectively, and were highest in September. Sebastiscus marmoratus, Stephanolepis cirrhifer, Choerodon azurio and Pseudolabrus sieboldi were dominant species, which occurred abundantly during the entire survey period.

  • Fish fauna of the coastal waters off Taean, Chungchyungnam-do, Korea, was investigated from May 1996 to July 1999. The specimems collected from the three localities were identified into 73 species belonging to 63 genera and 40 families. Of them the largest group was order Perciformes, comprising 35 species and 16 families, and showed 47.9% in total number of species. Chasmichthys gulosus and C. dolichognathus were commonly found from the st. 1, Sebastes schlegeli and Hexagrammos otakii, from the st. 2 and Cynoglossus joyneri, Acanthopagrus schlegeli, Pagrus majar, Chirolophis wui and Pholis fangi from the st. 3 of sampling localities. Porocottus sp. is described on the basis of 2 specimens collected from the st. 1 of sampling localities. The species was distinguished from all the other members of the genus by the following combination of characters: united dorsal fin, scales on trunk above lateral line, cirri on anterior part of lateral line.

  • The experiment was conducted to investigate the species composition of catches collected by the bottom trawl on June 24 to 26, 2004 in the southern waters of Korea using a trawler "DONGBAEK" belongs to Yosu National University. The investigation was carried out at the 5 stations and the towing speed was 3.4${\sim}$3.7k't. The catches were composed of 46 species from 37 families, 10 orders and 2 classes for fishes and 2 species, 2 families and 2 orders for Chondrichthyes and 44 species, 35 familes, 8 orders for Osteichthyes. The catches of Perciforms were the highest as 24 species and 18 families for fishes. The catches of Spear squid, Loli해 bleekeri and Red banded lobster, Metanephrops thomsoni were also the highest for mollusca and crustacea as 1 class, 3 species, 3 families, 2 orders, 1 class and 7 species, 5 families, 1 order, 1 class respectively.
