Effects of Sex Education Program on Careworkers' Knowledge, Attitudes and Coping toward Sexuality of the Elder (노인 성교육 프로그램이 요양보호사의 성에 대한 지식, 태도 및 대처에 미치는 효과)

  • The objectives of this study is to identify the Effects of Sex Education Program on careworkers' Knowledge, Attitudes and Coping toward sexuality of the Elders. The experimental design for this study was nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Research was done from September 10, 2013 to October 10, 2013. Participants included a total of 37 subjects. 19 in the experimental group and 18 in the control group. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, Pearson's correlation coefficients, Shapiro - Wilk test, ${\chi}^2$-test, Independent Samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, paired t-test, Wilcox signed rank test using SPSS/PC WIN 18.0 program. The results showed that program was effective in increasing the knowledge of sex, but attitude and positive coping, negative coping did not differ significantly between the groups. In conclusion, this study showed that sex education could be effective higher sex knowledge of careworkers, but could not be effective sex attitudes and coping. Therefore, it is necessary that develop sex education program to be effective sex attitudes and coping of careworkers.

Nurses' Knowledge, Attitude and Education Needs for Sexuality of the Elderly (간호사의 노인의 성에 대한 지식, 태도 및 성교육 요구도)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' sexual knowledge, attitude and sex education needs of the elderly. The participants were 235 nurses who were working at hospitals, geriatric hospitals and nursing homes at I city, K city and J city in Jeollabukdo province. A survey was conducted using self questionnaire scale from December 1, 2012 to December 10, 2012. First, the mean score of sexual knowledge was $15.91{\pm}6.43$. It was statistically significant according to marital status(p=.024), workplace(p<.001), duration of work experience(p=.006), sex education needs(p<.001), sex education acceptance(p<.001). Second, the mean score of attitude was $38.26{\pm}4.41$. It was statistically significant according to workplace(p=.033), living with the elderly(p=.009), sex education needs(p<.001) and sex education acceptance(p<.001). Third, the mean score of sex education needs was $35.97{\pm}6.28$. It was statistically significant according to age(p=.023), living with the elderly(p=.014), sex education needs(p<.001) and sex education acceptance(p<.001). Nurses' knowledge on the elderly's sexuality showed a significantly positive correlation with attitude(p<.001) and sex education needs(p<.001). This study indicated that general education on sexuality of the elderly for undergraduate nursing students and registered nurses is essential. More active nursing care on the elderly's sexuality is required when providing them with health assessment and nursing interventions.

Study on the Sex Recognition of Male Elderly (남성 노인의 성(性) 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to research the comprehensive recognition of male elderly about the sex life in old age. We collected data through face to face interview after obtaining the consents of 13 male elderly over 65 years old who reside in Kimhae Gyeongnam and Busan. The result of study showed that the sexual recognition of male elderly participants include the core concept of , , < the sex with restriction> and . In other words, the male elderly recognized the sexual life of old age as a natural and instinctive thing, the restrictions still exist including the negative recognition of family and surrounding people and diseases but it is found that the improvement of social recognition about sexual desire, the sex education and aggressive support for the various solutions are required. As the sexual awareness of the elderly is the comprehensive and broad study, the amalgamative and integrated study should be continued in the various fields. Through this, we tried to suggest the basic documents to the effective and differentiated individual sex consultation based on the empirical characteristics and desire of male elderly, and customized sex education and the development of local society program.

Effects of the Senior Citizens' Perception of Sex on the Life Satisfaction (노인의 성에 대한 인식이 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • This study seeks to analyze the effects of senior citizens' perception of sex on the life satisfaction in an empirical manner, and to present practical measures to improve senior citizens' perception of sex and life satisfaction based on the analysis results. To realize these research purposes, survey was administered targeting senior citizens who are at least 65 years old who reside at the Cities K and S in do-Jeollanam Province. As a result, 168 copies excluding unreliable answers were used for the final analysis. Collected data was subjected to SPSS 20.0 analysis, and the factor analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, t/F-test and regression analysis were carried out. Based on these analysis results, the following programs were suggested; development of the senior citizen sex education program to provide knowledge and information on sex, cultivation of the experts and establishment of counseling institutions that handle senior citizens' sex issue exclusively and execution of the social training and PR targeting the general public.

A Convergence of Effects of the Sexuality Recognition on the Level of Life Satisfaction of the Elderly (노인의 성인식이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향의 융복합적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships between sexuality recognition and life satisfaction of the elderly. 256 structured questionnaires were collected from the elderly who were 65 years old plus and live Suwon city and in the vicinity of this city. Findings of the study were as follows. First, the sexuality recognition of the elderly is composed of four(4) sub-variables such as Belief on sexuality, Value of Sexuality, Conversation on sexuality, and Attitude to sexuality. Second, some differences in sexuality recognition and satisfaction of the elderly according to the demographic factors of the sample were found. Third, in case of having spouse, being good health and economic status, and being high level of sexuality recognition variables such as conversation on sexuality and attitude to sexuality, the level of life satisfaction of the elderly were high. In other words, it is necessary to develop education program of sexual education to revitalize the education of the elderly's awareness about sex.

Effects of the Sex Education Program on Elders' Sex Perception and Life Satisfaction (성교육 프로그램이 노인의 성인식과 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a sex education program on the aged's sex perception and the life satisfaction. It was the non-equivalent control group pre-post test design, the number of subjects was 65 people as the experimental group and 70 people as the control group over 65 the aged. The program was conducted for 80 minutes a time for 6times of the N settlement house in P city from August 25 to September 16 in 2011. The study tool which was developed by Lee(1999) and revised by Jeong(2007), was used to measure the sex perception. The life satisfaction was measured by Naugarten(1961) and modified by Kim(2002). The date were analyzed as SPSS Win 17.0, the percentage, t-test, and the hypothesis was analyzed as t-test. The experimental group got higher scores on the sexual percetion(t=3.816, p<.001) and the life satisfaction(t=4.594, p<.001). This program is for generalized that must be performed in a repeat and comprehensive study with the many aged.

The Sexual Health for the Elderly in the Characteristics and Factors: Based on the WHO Sexual Health (WHO 성 건강에 근거한 노인 성 건강 특성과 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics and factors of each area by considering the gender health of the elderly as the integration of mental, physical, emotional, and social gender health based on the WHO gender health. The sexual health of the elderly is significantly different by gender, academic background, and region, and there is a clear difference in mental, physical, emotional sexual health and social sexual health. The mental, physical and emotional sexual health of the elderly in urban areas, those with high education and male is high, but the elderly in the rural areas, those with low education, and female are high in social sexual health. The factors affecting sexual health are as follows. Mental sexual health was positively influenced by satisfaction of sexual life and sexual knowledge. Physical sexual health was positively influenced by life and spouse satisfaction, and emotional sexual health was positively influenced by sexual relationship, spouse satisfaction, sexual life satisfaction and sexual knowledge. Social sexual health has a negative (-) effect on spouse satisfaction and sexual relationships. Integrated sexual health in old age can affect subjective health and quality of life, leading to successful aging. Sexual health education is needed to form a safe and healthy sexual life and interpersonal relationship. The 'sex' that appears as a cumulative trajectory of life should be accompanied by the accurate sexual health awareness and sex education that encompasses all generations. Therefore, in the composition of sex health education program, it is necessary to reflect the components that can enhance the sensitivity of adulthood to strengthen understanding and communication of spouse.
