Development of roadside image data acquisition system for road facility management (도로 시설물 관리를 위한 노변 영상 취득 시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • 본 연구에서 개발한 노변 영상(roadside image) 취득 시스템은 효율적으로 도로 시설물들을 관리하기 위함이다. 복잡하고 긴 구간의 도로에 존재하는 도로 시설물을 인력을 사용하여 조사하기에는 많은 시간과 비용이 소요된다. 도로를 따라 움직이는 차량을 이용하는 경우에는 적은 인원과, 단시간에 노변에 설치된 시설물 등의 현황과 상태를 조사 할 수 있으며 도로 주변의 다양한 정보를 알 수가 있다. 또한, 차량에 장착된 GPS/INS 통합시스템을 사용하여 해당 영상의 정확한 위치 정보를 획득 할 수 있다. 그러나 선명한 영상을 취득하기 위해서 야외의 다양한 조건을 만족시키는 카메라와 렌즈의 선정이 중요하며, 이에 따른 동기화 장치(synchronization device)와 영상 획득 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 경기도 고양시를 대상으로 시험을 실시하였으며, 현재 시판되고 있는 최신의 다양한 종류의 카메라와 렌즈를 차량에 장착한 후 영상을 취득하여 연구에 적합한 하드웨어를 선정하였다. 또한 동기화 장치를 사용하여 DMI(Distance Measuring Instrument)에서 발생되는 트리거 신호를 입력받아 일정한 거리마다 영상을 취득하는 S/W와 동기화 장치의 성능을 테스트하였다. 취득된 노변 영상의 위치 정확도를 테스트하기 위해 DGPS 방법을 이용하여 후처리 하였으며, 레벨 2수준의 교통주제도에 차량의 이동궤적과 도로의 선형을 중첩하여 육안으로 비교 분석하였다. 취득된 노변 영상을 분석하여 지상 모니터링 분야에서 도로 주변 시설물의 변화 탐지에 이용이 가능한 대상 시설물 목록을 선정하였으며 매우 효율적으로 도로의 유지관리에 활용이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

  • According to the economic growth, many highways are constructed for increasing need of better life style. Especially roads and roadside facilities are used for accident prevention and offering mobility for drivers. For these purpose, roads and roadside facilities should be well maintained and managed. Now, many roads and roadside facilities are constructed in many areas. Because of traditional surveying method requires much time and surveying efforts, we designed and developed mobile mapping system for highway maintenance and management purpose using multi sensors. We tested our mobile mapping system and data management process. Using developed database, road managers can easily check the information of facility conditions, positions, and attributes. We are expecting low cost and efficient road maintenance process by using our system.

An Approach to Video Based Traffic Parameter Extraction (영상을 기반 교통 파라미터 추출에 관한 연구)

  • Vehicle detection is the basic of traffic monitoring. Video based systems have several apparent advantages compared with other kinds of systems. However, In video based systems, shadows make troubles for vehicle detection, especially active shadows resulted from moving vehicles. In this paper, a new method that combines background subtraction and edge detection is proposed for vehicle detection and shadow rejection. The method is effective and the correct rate of vehicle detection is higher than 98% in experiments, during which the passive shadows resulted from roadside buildings grew considerably. Based on the proposed vehicle detection method, vehicle tracking, counting, classification and speed estimation are achieved so that traffic parameters concerning traffic flow is obtained to describe the load of each lane.

Development of Signal Control Strategy for Oversaturated Intersections Using Wayside Video Equipment (노변영상장비를 활용한 과포화 신호제어전략 개발)

  • The conventional real-time signal control strategy for oversaturated situation generally requires a number of detectors at the intersection in order to identify the queue length at each approach. Also, existing strategy for the spillback has limited effect due to the temporal spillback control which only reduce the green split at the approach. In this study, a signal control system utilizing the imagery information from ITS roadside equipment is developed for operation of oversaturated intersections. The strategy calculates the saturation ratio based on the queue length extracted from ITS RSE, and designs the signal control variables according to the saturation ratio. The signal control strategy is divided into two phases: oversaturated and supersaturated. In oversaturated conditions, timing plan for main approach is optimized by the queue length. In oversaturated conditions where spillback might occur, the signal timing is designed in order to avoid the spillback. To increase field adaptability, the strategy is designed to adjust the split length, all-red-time, and clearance time, and keep the major signal control variables intact. The result of the simulation shows that in oversaturated conditions, the improvement is similar to the real-time signal control system. In case of, oversaturated conditions, however, the effect of the strategy is superior to that of a real-time system.

A Study on Effectiveness of Safety Barriers Restraining Illegal Pedestrian Crossing on Exclusive Median Bus Corridor - Case Study at Sookmyung Women's University Bus Station - (중앙버스전용차로 분리형 횡단보도 무단횡단 억제시설 효과평가 - 숙명여대 입구 중앙버스정류소 횡단보도부를 중심으로 -)

  • It has reported that a median bus-stop island on an exclusive median bus lane (EMBL) has shortened a crossing distance unit, encouraged a pedestrian's illegal crossing, and increased the number of accidents in the area. This study presents (1) the analysis of inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns collected on exclusive median bus corridors and (2) the estimated performance of safety barriers restraining the occurrence of those. Total 19,649 pedestrian crossing data collected at the 'Sookmyung-university' median bus-stop, and the inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns among those were grouped in terms of time and space violations. Physical safety barriers restraining illegal pedestrian crossings were considered as an alternative, and its performance in safety was quantified through microscopic simulation with conflict analyses by using surrogate safety assessment model. The findings suggest the number of conflicts reduced be 24.9 percentages compared to the one of the present condition when the physical safety barriers are placed at each of the eight ends of the EMBL pedestrian crossing.

Development of Mask-RCNN Based Axle Control Violation Detection Method for Enforcement on Overload Trucks (과적 화물차 단속을 위한 Mask-RCNN기반 축조작 검지 기술 개발)

  • The Road Management Administration is cracking down on overloaded vehicles by installing low-speed or high-speed WIMs at toll gates and main lines on expressways. However, in recent years, the act of intelligently evading the overloaded-vehicle control system of the Road Management Administration by illegally manipulating the variable axle of an overloaded truck is increasing. In this manipulation, when entering the overloaded-vehicle checkpoint, all axles of the vehicle are lowered to pass normally, and when driving on the main road, the variable axle of the vehicle is illegally lifted with the axle load exceeding 10 tons alarmingly. Therefore, this study developed a technology to detect the state of the variable axle of a truck driving on the road using roadside camera images. In particular, this technology formed the basis for cracking down on overloaded vehicles by lifting the variable axle after entering the checkpoint and linking the vehicle with the account information of the checkpoint. Fundamentally, in this study, the tires of the vehicle were recognized using the Mask RCNN algorithm, the recognized tires were virtually arranged before and after the checkpoint, and the height difference of the vehicle was measured from the arrangement to determine whether the variable axle was lifted after the vehicle left the checkpoint.
