Evaluation of the Performance and the Energy Consumption Characteristics of Heat Recovery Ventilators in Apartments (공동주택 열교환기의 성능 및 에너지소비 특성 평가)

  • Heat recovery ventilators (HRV) are developed in order to satisfy both energy conservation and the improvement of indoor air quality as an alternative for current natural ventilation systems and local mechanical ventilation systems in kitchens and bathrooms. However, the performance of HRV system and the consequent effect on heating and cooling energy saving have not been sufficiently validated quantitatively in case of the application of HRVs in real residences. In this study, field measurement and computer simulation were conducted in both summer and winter period to assess the performance and validate energy conservation effect of HRVs. Under the Korea weather condition, average total heat recovery efficiency was $27\%$ in summer and $46\%$ in winter. According to the field measurement, HRV system can save the energy by $10\%$ in summer and 15$\%$ in winter. Furthermore, according to the simulation assessment, HRV system can save the energy by $17\%$ in summer and $17\%$ in winter.

Ice slurry transporting and branching characteristics for the district cooling (지역냉방을 위한 아이스슬러리 시스템의 수송 및 분기 특성)

  • The research are performed to check the characteristics of the ice slurry transport system for the district cooling. The system are installed at the 1st floored building which is as large as the $1204\;m^2$ ($86\;m{\times}14\;m$), and the pumping power and branching characteristics are measured by transporting of the ice slurry. The ice slurry transporting pipe is as long as 200 m. For the same cooling load, the higher IPF is, the lower the transporting flow rate and the pumping power are. But when the IPF is higher than 15%, no less decrease of the pumping power does happen. For the branching characteristics, through the branch pipe where the flow resistance is higher, the higher IPF is measured. A little higher IPF is measured at the thermal expansion branch.

  • Accurate electricity demand forecasting for daily peak load is essential for management and planning at electrical facilities. In this paper, we rst, introduce the several time series models that forecast daily peak load and compare the forecasting performance of the models based on Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE). The results show that the Reg-AR-GARCH model outperforms other competing models that consider Cooling Degree Day(CDD) and Heating Degree Day(HDD) as well as seasonal components.

  • 한전에서는 배전용 변압기의 부하관리를 위하여 전국사업소에 산재해 있는 변압기를 NDIS1) 부하관리 시스템으로 데이터 베이스화 하고, 각 변대에 수용되어 있는 고객의 월별 전기사용량을 추출하기 위하여 영업정보시스템과 연계하여 변압기, 배전선 개체관리는 물론 부하계산, 부하실적 및 부하예측 자료를 관리하고 있다. 이중 전등부하는 고객의 월간 사용전력량(kWh)과 최대부하(kVA)의 부하특성에 따른 상관 계수를 산정하여 이를 상관식에 적용하여 최대부하를 산출하고 있으며, 동력부하는 계약전력 및 종합수용률을 적용하여 부하전류를 계산하고 있으나 최근 고객의 냉방부하 급증으로 인하여 고객의 계약전력과 실제 설비용량과의 많은 차이가 발생하고 있어 변압기 관리에 어려움이 있고, 과부하로 인하여 변압기가 소손되는 사례도 발생하고 있다. 따라서 변압기 무선부하 감시시스템으로 측정한 결과를 토대로 변압기 이용율 계산의 정확도를 높이고 변압기 관리를 효율적으로 할 필요가 있다.

  • Energy foundations and other thermo-active ground structure, energy wells, energy slab, and pavement heating and cooling represent an innovative technology that contributes to environmental protection and provides substantial long-term cost savings and minimized maintenance. This paper focuses on earth-contact concrete elements that are already required for structural reasons, but which simultaneously work as heat exchangers. Pipes, energy slabs, filled with a heat carrier fluid are installed under conventional structural elements, forming the primary circuit of a geothermal energy system. The natural ground temperature is used as a heat source in winter and heat sink in summer season. The system represented very high heating and cooling performance due to the stability of EWT from energy slab. Maximum heat pump unit COP and system COP were 4.9 and 4.3.

  • The performance characteristics of heat exchangers which consist of a gas cooler, an evaporator and an internal heat exchanger have been investigated at various operating conditions of $CO_2$ air conditioning system by experiments. The heat exchangers were designed for use in the vehicle $CO_2$ air conditioning system, when considering the characteristics of heat transfer and high pressure as $CO_2$ refrigerant. This paper studied the performance of heat exchangers at various compressor speeds and expansion valve openings, and quantified the heat transfer rates and pressure drops. Heat transfer rates at the gas cooler and the evaporator were 6.9 kW and 5.2 kW, respectively, when the compressor speed was 4000 rpm and refrigerant vapor quality at the evaporator outlet was 0.98. Therefore, this paper carried out that the heat exchangers were analyzed to achieve superior performance for the vehicle transcritical $CO_2$ cycle.

  • Solar energy has been experiencing renewed interest because of the recent economical crisis in Korea. Absorption cooling is one of the promising solar energy utilization technologies. In this study the dynamic performance of a solar driven absorption cooling machine(SDACM) was numerically investigated. The simulated machine is a commercially available water/LiBr single effect absorption chillers driven by hot water from solar collectors. The present study has been directed to investigate the dynamic behavior of a solar cooling system including an absorption chiller, solar collector, a hot water storage tank, fan coil units, and the air-conditioned space. The operation of the system was simulated for 9 hours in varying operation conditions. The variation of temperature and concentration in the system components, and that of heat transfer rates in the system were obtained. It was also found that the room temperature was maintained near the desired value by controlling the mass flow rate of hot water.

  • A comparative analysis of an ice storage system has been performed on the operation cost for the four control strategies, i.e., chiller priority and chiller downstream, chiller priority and chiller upstream, storage priority and chiller upstream, storage priority and chiller downstream. Main components of the ice storage system are an ice-on-coil storage tank and a screw compressor chiller. With the simulation program, the operation cost has been evaluated from the economics of an ice storage system. It is found that the operation cost of the ice storage system is strongly dependent on the control strategy, i.e., chiller priority or storage priority, but less affected by the arrangement method, i.e., chiller upstream or chiller downstream. In case of the maximum load day, the control strategy with chiller priority and chiller upstream is supposed to obtain the reduction of operation cost. However, it is found that the control strategy with storage priority and chiller downstream is the best economical operation for most summer seasons except the maximum load day.

Modeling of the Air-side Particulate Fouling in Finned-Tube Heat Exchangers of Air Conditioners using Accelerated Particle-Loading System (파울링 가속장치를 이용한 공기조화기용 열교환기의 공기측 파울링 특성에 대한 예측 모델링)

  • The air-side particulate fouling in the heat exchangers of HVAC applications degrades the performance of cooling capacity, pressure drop across a heat exchanger, and indoor air quality. Indoor and outdoor air contaminants foul heat exchangers. The purpose of this study is to investigate and to model the air-side particulate fouling characteristics of the heat exchangers using accelerated particle loading system. The main variables of the modeling equation are face velocity and dust concentration. The modeling equation shows good agreements with the experimental results at the face velocity of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 m/s and the dust concentration of 1.28 and $3.84\;g/m^3$. It will be very useful to predict fouling characteristics such as variations of pressure drop and heat transfer capacity in finned-tube heat exchangers of air conditioners.

Performance Characteristics of a CO2 Cooling and Water Heating System with a Twin-rotary Compressor (트윈로터리 압축기 적용 냉방 및 급탕 겸용 이산화탄소 시스템의 성능특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the performance characteristics of a $CO_2$ cooling and water heating system using a twin-rotary compressor with the compression volume ratio of 0.6. The cooling performances of the $CO_2$ heat pump were measured and analyzed with the variations of charge amount, EEV opening, and compressor frequency. In addition, the performance of the combined system including cooling and water heating was also measured and analyzed by varying inlet temperature of the EEV. As a result, the optimal normalized charge and cooling COP in the cooling mode were 0.307 and 2.06, respectively. The application of the water heating into the $CO_2$ heat pump improved the cooling performance over 78% and decreased the EEV inlet temperature by $8^{\circ}C$, which can increase system reliability.
