In this study, the cooling of rocket exhaust plume by sprayed water inside plume were investigated as varying of sprayed water mass, location, and method using computational fluid analysis. For Analyze rocket exhaust plume, a single species unreacted analysis model based on the chemically frozen analysis was used and the discrete particle model which was a kind of Euler-Lagrangian analysis model was used for simulate sprayed water inside plume. It was confirmed that the temperature of plume was reduced without cooling when water mass was two times of plume mass through analysis results.

A numerical study has been conducted on CO after burning and NO generation of the rocket plume as the cooling water injected to the rocket plume. The present study shows that the cooling water has a role of increasing the degree of CO after burning and reducing NO generation. However the effect varies as the injection configuration of the cooling water. When the cooling water is injected at the side of the plume, NO generation is dramatically reduced while the degree of CO after burning is relatively low. When the cooling water is injected at the side and the center of the plume, CO after burning is highly increased and NO generation is also dramatically reduced.
In this study, a method for increasing the initial water supply was employed to protect the water injection nozzle by the flame when supplying the water to the steam generator. During the initial steam generator test, the flow rate was controlled by using the only venturi, but cooling water was not supplied to the combustion chamber at the beginning of combustion, thereby resulting in damage to the water nozzle. To solve this problem, a venturi and an orifice were configured in parallel to increase the initial supply flow rate to form a differential pressure between the water manifold and the combustion chamber. Venturi and orifice supply sequences were established through the water flow tests, and combustion tests were conducted for final verification. Consequently, a continuous supply of the cooling water at the beginning of combustion was achieved, and the experiment was successfully performed without damaging the cooling water nozzle.

Numerical heat/flow analysis was performed on a liquid rocket engine head with the cooling water manifold to ensure the durability of a ground test facility for heat exchanger. Through these studies, the shapes of the injector and the flow path were determined and applied to the head of the engine under development. Firing tests were conducted to verify the designed coolant manifold and no thermal damage was found on the engine-head-face. Comparing the combustion test results with the numerical analysis, the outlet temperature of coolant showed a difference of about $15^{\circ}C$. This trend is reasonable considering existence of LOX manifold, thermal barrier coating, and the actual location of flame.

It is well known that the majority of the emissions measured from vehicle exhaust in the US Federal Test Procedure(FTP-75) are emitted during the first 60 seconds. This paper describes an experimental study on SI engine emissions reduction after cold start with interval secondary air injection and coolant control. Secondary air injection after cold start to reduce exhaust emissions causes an exothermic reaction at the exhaust port and gives sufficient air to the catalyst. For that reason engine-out emissions oxidized in the exhaust port and the rapid heating of a catalytic converter after cold start with CSAI and ISAI are estimated. The influence of the coolant temperature on SI engine emissions has been estimated. In the present studycoolant control of the cylinder head tempeature is used to investigate the effect of coolant temperature on SI engine emissions. The results show that engine-out hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions are considerably reduced with interval secondary air injection and coolant control.

We analyzed the rocket engine flow to check whether the possibility of the ground test and the equipment safety problems in the high altitude engine test facility. The test condition is that the vacuum chamber is open and the coolant water is injected into the supersonic diffuser. The analysis uses two-dimensional axisymmetry with a mixture of plume, air, and cooling water. As a result, the ground test was possible up to the cooling water flow rate of 200 kg/sec. However, due to the back flow of the initial plume, the vacuum chamber is exposed to high temperature, and at the same time, the inside of the vacuum chamber is contaminated due to the reverse flow of the cooling water. Therefore, sufficient insulation measures and work for pollution avoidance should be preceded.
During the SI engine starting up, starting conditions directly contribute to the harmful emissions in spark ignition engines. The effects of catalyst temperatures and fuel injection skip methods on HC emissions were investigated. The test was conducted on a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, multipoint-port-fuel-injection gasoline engine. To understand the formation of HC emissions, HC concentration was measured in an exhaust port using a Fast Response Flame Ionization Detector(FRFID). The result showed that HC emissions, which were generated during initial stage of the starting, could be reduced by coolant temperature and fuel injection skips. And through the vehicle test of ECE15+EUDC, it is convinced that the optimized fuel injection skip method according to coolant temperatures have favourable effects on the reduction of harmful exhaust emissions including HC during the SI engine start.

The steam power plant is becoming more important to supply a stable power lately. Desuperheater of the steam power plant facility plays a role in maintaining the proper superheat to avoid damage turbine power due to the superheated steam produced in the boiler. In this study, when the steam flows $530^{\circ}C$, 36.7 kg/s, 1.36 MPa in the 460mm pipe, variable orifice nozzle developed in Korea was carried out the performance analysis in coolant injection conditions of $150^{\circ}C$, 4.28 MPa. Findings, steam pipe coolant temperature was maintained at $446^{\circ}C$ and sprayed droplet size was verified by $50{\mu}m$ or less.
