Convenient Thermal Modeling for Loss Distribution method of 3-Level Active NPC Inverter using Newton's Law of cooling (Active NPC 인버터의 손실 분배 제어를 위한 뉴턴의 냉각법칙 기반의 간단한 열 모델링 기법)

  • This paper proposes a convenient thermal modeling method for loss distribution control method of 3-level Active NPC(Neutral Point Clamped) inverter. In the drawback of conventional 3-level NPC, the generated losses can occur unbalance in each switching device, as a result, thermal utilization of designed system has been decreased. In order to compensate unbalanced losses, Active NPC inverter performed loss balancing control with thermal modeling during operation of each switching device. Therefore, this paper deals with a convenient thermal modeling method based on newton's law of cooling rather than conventional thermal modeling method. Both simulation and experimental results based on 10kW 3-level Active NPC inverter confirm the validity of the analysis performed in the study.

  • A uncooled infrared ray sensor used in an infrared thermal imaging detector has many advantages. But because the uncooled infrared ray sensor is made by MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) process variation of offset is large. In this paper, to solve process variation of offset a ROIC for uncooled infrared ray sensor that has process variation of offset compensation technique using differential delta sampling and reference signal compensation circuit was proposed. As a result of simulation that uses the proposed ROIC, it was possible to acquire compensated output characteristics without process variation of offsets.

Jet Impingement Heat Transfer on a Pedestal Encountered in Chip Cooling (충돌제트를 이용한 pedestal 형상의 칩 냉각연구)

  • The heat transfer and flow measurements were made on a cylindrical pedestal mounted on a flat plate with a turbulent impinging air jet. The heat transfer coefficient distributions on the flat plate were measured using the shroud-transient technique and liquid crystal was used to measure the surface temperature. The jet Reynolds number (Re) is 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, the dimensionless pedestal diameter-to-height (H/D) from 0 to 1.5, the dimensionless 2nd pedestal diameter-to-height ($H/D_2$) from 0 to 0.4 and the distance from the stagnation point to 2nd pedestal (p/D). The results show that for H/D = 0.5 to 1.5, the Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface exhibit a maximum between $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.0$ and 1.5. The presence of the pedestal appears to cause the flow separation and reattachment on the plate surface, which results in the maximum heal transfer coefficient. Also, for p/D = 2.5 and $H/D_2$ = 0.3, the local Nusselt number in the region corresponding to $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.1$ was increased up to 50% compared to that for $H/D_2=0$.

Thermal Characteristics Analysis of a High Speed Spindle System by Using FSI Method (FSI 해석법을 이용한 고속 주축계의 열특성 해석)

  • FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) method, in this study, has been applied to analyzing thermal characteristics of a high speed machine tool spindle system. The spindle is composed of angular contact ceramic ball bearings, a high speed built-in motor, a cooling jacket, and so on. The cooling jacket has three inlets and outlets. Using the FSI method, temperature distributions and thermal displacements of the spindle system were computed considering the heating of the front and rear bearings and the built-in motor. The results computed using the FSI method were compared with those determined by experiment and using the conventional numerical approach. The results determined using the FSI method were similar to those from the conventional numerical approach but showed better agreement with the experimental results. Therefore, it is concluded that the FSI method is useful for analyzing the thermal characteristics of high speed spindles and can be applied to the design of high speed spindles.

  • 차세대 원자로로 부각되고 있는 고온가스냉각 원자로에서는 고온 안정성 및 핵분열생성물 차단 성능이 우수한 TRISO(Tri-Isotropic) 핵연료를 사용하고 있다. TRISO 핵연료 입자는 직경이 약 1mm인 구 형태로 입자의 중심에는 직경 $0.35^{\sim}0.6\;{\mu}m$의 핵연료 입자가 포함되며 입자 외곽을 코팅 층이 에워 싸고 있다. 이 코팅층은 완충(buffer) PyC 층, 내부 PyC 층, 외부 PyC 층으로 구성되어 있다. 각 코팅 층의 두께를 수십$^{\sim}$${\mu}m$ 범위이며 사양으로 정해져 있어 핵연료 입자 제조 후 사양을 만족하는지를 검사해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 TRISO 핵연료 입자 정보를 컴퓨터로 생성하고 가상의 X-선 래디오그래피 방법을 이용하여 투시 영상을 구성한 후 Filtered Backprojection 기법을 이용하여 단면 영상을 재구성하고 이 단면 영상을 이용하여 코팅 층의 두께를 정밀하게 측정하기 위한 모의 실험을 수행하였다. 경계선이 불명확한 투시영상이 아닌 경계선이 명확한 재구성 단면 영상을 이용하여 코팅 층의 두께를 약 2.3% 이내의 오차율로 정밀하게 측정하였다.

  • Experimental studies on determination of the supply leading time of propellants to combustion chamber have been made to stably and efficiently guarantee the ignition process with liquid rocket engine. The propellant used is a Jet A-1 as fuel and a liquid oxygen as oxidizer. Unlike impinging FOOF type of injectors are arranged radially and the designed O/F ratio is 2.34. The present experiment program also includes the stability on the quadlet type of ignitor using the triethylalumimum as an ignition source and injector life tests. Experimental results clarifies that the propellant supply through LOx leading to combustion chamber is proper for stable ignition and combustion processes based on the fuel and oxidizer manifold pressures, combustion chamber pressure, and the variation of flame length from the nozzle exit with lapse time, and shows that the leading supply time of propellants affects the engine performance little. The effect of positioning cooling holes is remarkable to protect the injector face.

  • Recently, research on bolometer-type uncooled infrared image sensor which is made for industrial applications has been increasing. In general, it is difficult to calibrate fixed pattern noise (FPN) of bolometer array. In this paper, average-current calibration algorithm is presented for reducing bolometer resistance offset. A resistor which is produced by standard CMOS process, on the average, has a deviation. We compensate for deviation of each resistor using average-current calibration algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been implemented by a chip which is consisted of a bolometer pixel array, average current generators, current-to-voltage converters (IVCs), a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). These bolometer-resistor array and readout circuit were designed and manufactured by $0.35{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process.

투과 전자 현미경으로 관찰한 $Hg_{0.7}Cd_{0.3}Te$박막의 Hg 분위기 열처리 효과

  • 적외선 소자의 재료로 쓰이는 액상 에피 성장법(Liquid phase epitaxy: LPE)으로 성장된 HgCdTe (MCT)박막의 Hg 분위기 열처리에 따른 구조적 변화를 고 분해능 투과 전자 현미경으로 관찰하였다. 일반적으로 LPE방법으로 성장된 MCT박막은 성장 방법의 특성상 Te 과다 영역의 성장용액이 사용되므로 상온 냉각 과정에서 박막 내 국부적인 Te 석출물을 형성 시킬 가능성이 높다. 또한, 성장 과정시 높은 Hg 증기압으로 인해 Hg-vacancy가 존재하므로 품질을 저하시키는 요인이 된다. 따라서, 본 실험에서는 Hg-vacancy와 국부적인 Te 석출물의 제거를 위해 Hg 분위기 열처리 공정을 실시하여 박막의 결정성 변화 및 국부적인 조성 변화를 관찰하였다. 실험결과, 열처리에 따른 Hg의 박막 내 공급으로 인한 이차상의 형성 등이 관찰 되었으며 부피 팽창으로 인해 격자의 변형이 관찰 되었다. 이는 투과 전자 현미경의 고 분해능 이미지 와 Gaussian mask filtering 기법으로 보여진 격자 줄무늬상 (lattice fringe)으로 확인 하였다. 또한, 열처리에 따른 국부적인 조성 편기의 해소는 high angle annular dark field scanning TEM(HAADF-STEM)을 이용하여 관찰 하였다.

  • In this paper the cure cycle of carbon fiber/phenolic resin was investigated by the Taguchi Method in an experimental design. Experiments were systematically performed using $L_{18}(2^1 \times 3_7)$ orthorgonal array table of the experimental design. In the experimental design, eight compression molding parameters (heating rate, pressing temperature, pressing rate, molding pressure, curing temperature, dwell time at curing temperature, cooling rate and degassing) were considered and the effects of the parameters on the flexural strength and the apparent porosity of carbon fiber/phenolic composites were investigated. The analysis of variance for the experimental results indicated that molding pressure and curing temperature are the most significant parmeters in the flexural strength and the apparent porosity of carbon fiber/phenolic resin composites, respectively.

  • The fuel charge is getting higher in navigation cost. Therefore, shipowners try to find the method for reducing oil consumption. ESS(Energy Saving System) is one of he method. ESS is the system consisted with two inverters, ESS control unit and monitoring system. Two inverters control two main sea water cooling pumps. In the ESS control Unit, the control algorithm finds optimized point to decrease a power consumption of main sea water cooling pumps. Monitoring system observes ESS not to work improperly. ESS is experimented in the laboratory with real condition and analyzed in every view. After experiment, the result of the experiment shows that the control algorithm works correctly and safely. ESS has a plan to be operated in the ship soon. In that case, additional devices are needed to connect ESS with cooling system of the vessel. So the development of addition device is needed and being studied.
