Assessment of the Usefulness of the Water Spray for Fire Extinguishing in Case of Fire in Tunnels (터널 화재시 수분무 소화설비의 효용성 평가)

  • In this study, we conducted an FDS numerical simulation for the purpose of carrying out a basic assessment of the usefulness of the water spray for fire extinguishing. We analyzed the effect of securing the stability in temperature and smoke density in case of fire according to fire intensities (20MW, 50MW) and changes in wind speed. When there was no wind speed in tunnels, it was effective in securing the safety of people because the cooling effect of the water spray system had an excellent effect on reducing temperatures and smoke densities there. The higher a fire intensity is, the less effect it has on reducing smoke flows. When an air current exists in tunnels, its cooling effect disturbs the smoke stratification and lowers the visibility degree during evacuation. Therefore, the water spray for fire extinguishing should be put into action only after people take shelter during fire.

  • 저탄소강은 일반적으로 용접성이 우수하지만 완전한 접합 강도와 용접부에서의 결함을 방지하기 위해서는 많은 주위가 필요하다. 용접부의 기계적 성질은 그 미세구조에 따라 좌우되는데, 이 구조는 모재의 화학조성, 용접 조건 그리고 후열처리에 의하여 결정이 된다. 이와 같이 용융용 접에 의한 저탄소강의 접합부는 저탄소함량으로 응고 균열에 대한 저항이 높다. 그러나 탄소의 함량이 증가하므로서 용접성은 저하하여, 0.3% 이상에서 용접부는 과열, 과냉, 저온 균열과 porosity에 취약하게 된다. 구조용강애 있어서는 용접성에 대한 일반적인 기준이 없으므로 이 러한 재료는 모재와 용접부의 기계적 성질, 고온 및 저온 균열성, 열간 및 냉각가공성등을 고려 하게 된다. 그러나 가장 중요한 것은 용접부의 신뢰도이다. 탄소강과 저합금강에 있어서 용접은 높은 강도를 얻을 수 있어야 하며 접합부에서 모재의 원래의 특성을 유지하여야 하고 결함이 없어야 할 것이다. 이와 같은 결함은 모재의 융접 이하에서 접합을 실시하는 고상접합으로 충 분히 억제할 수가 있다. 고상접합에서는 근본적인 미세조직의 결정화도 피할 수 있으며 고온균 일과 같은 결함의 위험도 배제할 수 있다. 고상접합은 용융용접과는 달리 모재를 용융시키지 않고 고체상태에서 접합을 하는데, 신금속 및 신소재의 개발과 첨단산업의 발달로 고상접합 기 술이 크게 각광을 받고 발전하게 되었다. 이와 같은 접합기술의 발전으로 기존의 용접으로는 접합이 불가한 소재, 용접기술의 적용이 곤란한 복잡한 형상, 복합기능 소재, 고품질 및 고정밀 성이 요구되는 소재등이 접합이 가능하게 되었다. 이러한 접합기술로는 brazing, 확산접합, 마찰 용접 등이 주로 많이 이용되고 있다. Brazing은 융점이 낮은 filler metal이 모재의 사이에서 용 융상태로 유입되어 냉각되면서 접합되는 방식이고 확산접합은 모재의 접합계면에서 원자의 상호 확산으로 접합을 하게 된다. 한편 마찰용접은 계면에서 회전에 의한 마찰열고 접합하는 방식 이다. 본 기술해설에서는 이러한 고상접합 기술을 이용한 철강재료의 접합에 대하여 고찰하도록 하겠다.

Analytical Study of High Speed Railway Braking Disc-hub for Enhancement of Cooling Performance (냉각 성능 향상을 위한 고속철도 제동 디스크 허브의 해석 연구)

  • This study aimed to improve the performance of the KTX (Korea Train Express) brake system. To develop a braking disc-hub for the high-speed rail, the model performance was analyzed by finite element analysis, and the analysis results were verified using the braking test results. In addition, heat transfer analysis, thermal stress analysis, natural frequency analysis, and static analysis were conducted to examine the mechanical performance of the braking system. By deriving the design factors and conducting parametric analyses according to the shape of the hub, this study derived the optimal specifications that could improve heat dissipation and reduce weight. The cooling efficiency and structural performance of the optimization model were improved during braking compared to the existing model. It is expected that the design verification will be carried out through analyses of the optimal specifications so that it can be used in the development of brakes in railway vehicles and motor vehicles.

Evaluation for Mechanical Properties of High Strength Concrete at High Temperature by Stressed Test and Unstressed Test (설계하중 사전재하 및 비재하방식에 의한 고강도콘크리트의 고온특성 평가)

  • Recently, the effects of high temperature on compressive strength, elastic modulus and strain at peak stress of high strength concrete were experimentally investigated. The present study is aimed to study the effect of elevated temperatures ranging from 20 to 700 on the material mechanical properties of high strength concrete of 40, 60, 80 MPa grade. In this study, the types of test were the stressed test and stressed residual test that the specimens are subjected to a 25% of ultimate compressive strength at room temperature and sustained during heating and when target temperature is reached, the specimens are loaded to failure. And another specimens are loaded to failure after 24 hour cooling time. Tests were conducted at various temperatures ($20{\sim}700^{\circ}C$) for concretes made with W/B ratios 46%, 32% and 25%. Test results showed that the relative values of compressive strength and elastic modulus decreased with increasing compressive strength grade of specimen and the axial strain at peak stress were influenced by the load before heating. Thermal strain of concrete at high temperature was affected by the preload level as well as the compressive strength. Finally, model equation for compressive strength and elastic modulus of heated high strength concrete proposed by result of this study.

  • The efforts to develop high performance aircraft engines are successively progressed with development of recent technology. The reliability of individual parts and the safety of engine systems are reduced if high efficiency components, high strength materials, and precise controls are applied to the engine with complexity to increase engine performance. In this paper, the regulation requirements and assessment technique for aircraft engine safety are considered, and the result of safety assessment on a turbine case cooling system of high efficiency turbofan engine is presented.

Analysis of Performance Enhancement of a Combined Cycle Power Plant by the Change of Design Parameters of Gas Turbine Using Coolant Pre-cooling (냉각공기 예냉각을 통한 가스터빈 설계변수 변화에 의한 복합발전시스템 성능향상 분석)

  • Turbine blade cooling is one of the major technologies to enhance the performance of gas turbine and combined cycle power plants. In this study, two cases of coolant pre-cooling schemes were applied in combined cycle power plant: decrease of coolant mass flow needed to cool turbine blade and increase of turbine inlet temperature (TIT). Both schemes are benefited by the decrease of coolant temperature through coolant pre-cooling. Under the same degree of pre-cooling, increasing TIT exhibits larger plant power boost and higher plant efficiency than reducing coolant flow. As a result, the former produces the same gas turbine power with a much smaller degree of pre-cooling than the latter. Another advantage of increasing TIT is a higher plant efficiency. Even with an assumption of partial achievement of the theoretically predicted TIT, the method of increasing TIT can provide considerably larger power output.

An Experimental Study on the Strength-Development Properties of Mortar with Discarded Bentonite Powder (폐 벤토나이트 분말을 흔입한 모르터의 강도 발현 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • As the bentonite is main material to prevent from collapse of drilling hole at underground excavation works, the quantity of bentonite is increasingly used on construction industry day by day. But, the discarded bentonite that is excessively used at underground excavation works causes various environmental trouble such as soil and water pollution etc. Therefore, this study aims to propose a foundamental report about pozzolan reaction of discarded Bentonite powder by heat-treatment and cooling as concrete mineral admixture. To find out the strength-development properties of mortar with discarded Bentonite powder by indirect cooling & cooling using of water after heat-treatment, the experiments such as flow test, and compressive strength test on curing age of mortar are excuted. As a result of this study, discarded Bentonite powder can be utilized as concrete mineral admixture by heat-treatment and especially, the strength-development properties of mortar mixing with discarded Bentonite powder is superior to the situation of $600^{\circ}C$.60min-cooling using of water.

  • During liquid rocket engine combustion, the resulting combustion gas has flow characteristics of high temperature and high velocity. An experimental study was performed to obtain basic data for a flame deflector design that is endurable under such flow characteristics. While the injected-water cools down the combustion plume, temperature and pressure of the plume was measured. As the experiment is being performed, gas temperature was measured using infrared cameras, and the gas temperature data was compared with the temperature data from the sensor in the plume. With the results of this experiment, we were able to obtain applicable temperature data for flame deflector design and predict the performance and structural strength required for installation of water injector.

  • 제강공정에서 발생되는 $CaO-Al_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$계 조성을 갖는 2 차 정련슬래그 (래들 슬래그)를 이용하여 하수슬러지용 고화재개발 및 하수슬러지 고화체의 물성에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 래들슬래그는 냉각과정에서 분화되는 성질이 있어 냉각후 분말상의 슬래그가 만들어진다. 분말상 슬래그의 주 결정상은 $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_{2}O_{3}$$2CaO{\cdot}SiO_{2}$로 구성되어 있다. $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_{2}O_{3}$ 상은 속경성 시멘트의 특징이 있다. 또한 $CaSO_{4}$와 혼합사용시 ettringite 상을 형성시켜 하수슬러지의 함수율 저감효과 및 강도발현 효과가 우수한 결과를 얻었다. $Cl^{-}$ 이온의 고정화면에서는 고화재중 래들슬래그의 혼합비가 높을수록 고화체 구조내에 $Cl^{-}$ 이온이 고정화되어 용출량은 감소하였다. 고화재로서 제강부산물을 사용하기 때문에 경제성이 있으며, $Cl^{-}$ 이온 함량이 높은 하수슬러지 고화재로서의 재활용이 기대된다.

Numerical Assessment of Dislocation-Punching Theories for Continuum Structural Analysis of Particle-Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites (입자 강화 금속기지 복합재의 연속체 강도해석을 위한 전위 펀칭 이론의 전산적 평가)

  • The yield strength of particle-reinforced composites increases as the size of the particle decreases. This kind of length scale has been mainly attributed to the geometrically necessary dislocation punched around the particle as a result of the mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficients of the particle and the matrix when the composites are cooled down after consolidation. In this study, two dislocation-punching theories that can be used in continuum structural modeling are assessed numerically. The two theories, presented by Shibata et al. and Dunand and Mortensen, calculate the size of the dislocationpunched zone. The composite yield strengths predicted by finite element analysis were qualitatively compared with experimental results. When the size of the particle is less than $2{\mu}m$, the patterns of the composite strength are quite different. The results obtained by Shibata et al. are in qualitatively better agreement with the experimental results.
