Digital library is the most important database system that needs information retrieval engine for natural language documents and multimedia data. This paper describes the experimental results of information retrieval engine and browser based on natural language processing. It includes lexical analysis, syntax processing, stemming, and keyword indexing for the natural language text. With the experimental database ‘Earth and Space Science’ that has lots of images and titles and their descriptive text in natural language, text-based search engine was tested. Combined with content-based image search engine, it is expected to be a multimedia information retrieval system in digital library

기존의 내용기반 비디오 검색 시스템들을 주석기반 검색 또는 특징기반 검색과 같은 단일 방식으로만 검색을 하므로 검색 효율이 낮을 뿐 아니라 완전한 자동 처리가 되지 않아 시스템 관리자나 주석자의 많은 노력을 요구한다. 본 논문에서는 주석기반 검색을 이용하여 대용량의 비디오 데이터에 대한 사용자의 다양한 의미검색을 지원하는 에이전트 기반에서의 자동화되고 통합된 비디오 의미기반 검색 시스템을 제안한다. 사용자의 기본적인 질의를 분석하고 질의에 의해 추출된 키 프레임의 이미지를 사용자가 선택함으로써 인덱싱 에이전트는 추출된 키 프레임의 주석에 대한 의미를 더욱 구체화시킨다.

The ability of the searcher to express their information problem to an information retrieval system is fundamental to the retrieval process. Query by visual example is the principal query paradigm for expressing queries in a content-based image retrieval environment yet there is little empirical evidence to support its efficacy in facilitating query formulation. The aim of this research was to investigate the usability of the query by colour method in supporting a range of information problems in order to contribute to the gap in knowledge regarding the relationship between searchers' information problems and the query methods required to support efficient and effective visual query formulation. The results strongly suggest that the query method does not support visual query formulation and that there is a significant mismatch between the searchers information problems and the expressive power of the retrieval paradigm.

본 논문에서는 내용 기반 이미지 검색 및 필터링 시스템을 위한 카테고리 식별 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법에서는 식별 가능한 카테고리를 사전에 정의하고, 정의된 카테고리를 대표할 수 있는 이미지들을 수집한다. 다음으로, 이들로부터 다중의 내용 기반 특징값을 추출하고, 추출된 특징값들로 카테고리 데이터베이스를 구성한다. 카테고리를 식별할 질의 이미지가 입력으로 들어오면, 질의 이미지로부터 추출된 다중 특징값들을 각 카테고리의 단일 특징값과 각각 비교함으로써, 카테고리를 대표하는 다중의 유사도 거리값을 측정한다. 각 카테고리를 대표하는 다중의 유사도 거리값들은 두 가지 연산 방법에 의해 조합되는데, 조합 방법은 각각의 단일 특징값이 각 카테고리 식별에 미치는 영향을 고려하여 정의된다. 최종적으로, 각 카테고리의 조합된 유사도 거리값을 비교한 다음, 가장 유사도가 큰 카테고리를 해당 질의 이미지의 카테고리로 식별한다.

게시판 시스템은 양방향으로 정보를 교환하는 정보 시스템으로서의 높은 효용을 지니고 있으며, 웹과 결합하여 다양한 정보 시스템의 핵심 요소로 자리잡고 있다. 또한 이미지 등의 멀티미디어 정보를 게시물에 포함하여 효율적인 정보 공유에 사용되고 있다. 그러나 지금까지의 게시판 시스템은 게시물의 내용에 접근하기 위해, 단순한 텍스트 패턴 매칭에 의존하고 있다. 이러한 접근 방식은 텍스트 중심의 게시판에서는 어느 정도 효용을 갖지만. 멀티미디어를 포함하는 게시판의 경우에는 적용되기 어려운 단점을 갖고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이의 해결을 위해 이미지 데이터를 포함하는 게시물에 대해 시맨틱 태깅을 할 수 있는 게시판 시스템에 관하여 논한다. 제안된 시스템은 사전에 정해진 태깅 정보가 코드에 고착되지 않고, 외부에서 지정한 시맨틱 태깅을 동적으로 수용하는 구조물 갖고 있다. 이러한 구조를 통하여 이미지의 종류나 성격에 가장 적합한 태깅을 동적으로 지정할 수 있게 되며. 의미 기반의 검색을 지원하게 된다.

최근 멀티미디어 응용의 증가에 따라 그래픽 데이터를 위한 내용 기반 검색 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 또한 인터넷 응용분야에서 3차원 그래픽 데이터베이스 사용의 필요성이 대두되고 활용되고 있다. 대부분의 3차원 그래픽 시스템은 사용자에게 그래픽은 검색이 대상이 아니라 단순히 보여주는 역할로 주로 사용되고 있다. 3차원 그래픽객체는 어떤 객체들로 구성되여 있으며 그들의 크기는 어떠한지 등의 정보를 포함하고 있다. 따라서 3차원 그래픽 객체에서는 2차원 그래픽 객체에서는 2차원 이미지보다 의미객체에 대한 정확한 정보를 더 많이 얻어 낼 수 있다. 이러한 사실 때문에 2차원 이미지의 특징추출의 방법과는 다른 형식의 접근이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 3차원 그래픽으로 모델링 된 3차원 객체들을 대상으로 객체가 이루는 X, Y, Z축상의 비율과 윤곽형태에 대한 SPBT(Space Partitioning Binary Tree)의 결과값으로 특징을 추출하고 샘플 데이터를 통해서 이들간의 클러스터링과 실제 예제 질의를 토한 비교분석을 통해 객체간의 유사검색이 가능하도록 하는 특징추출 방법을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 제시한 모양기반 특징추출 방법은 웹상의 다양한 3차원 객체정보의 자동분류나 3차원 그래픽 데이터베이스를 위한 인덱스 구축 등에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

본 논문에서는 MPEG 의 멀티미디어 응용 표준인 MAF(Multimedia Application Format)를 기반으로, 효율적인 비디오 콘텐츠의 검색 및 활용을 위한 통합 미디어 구조, 즉 비디오 MAF 를 제안한다. 제안하는 비디오 MAF 는 ISO 미디어 포맷을 기반으로 하고 단일의 비주얼 스트림과 다중 음성을 지원하기 위한 다수의 오디오 스트림, 내용기반의 정보를 포함하는 메타데이터, 그리고 비디오 콘텐츠의 대표 이미지를 동시에 포함하는 구조이다. 제안하는 파일포맷의 유용성을 검증하기 위해 비디오 MAF 로 생성 및 해석할 수 있는 부호기(encoder)와 복호기(decoder)를 설계하고 구현하여, 통합 미디어에 내재된 메타데이터를 이용한 효율적인 검색과 멀티트랙의 오디오 스트림을 활용한 다중 음성에 대한 지원이 가능함을 확인하였다. 또한 내재된 대표이미지는 비디오 콘텐츠에 대한 브라우징이 효과적으로 활용됨을 확인하였다.

Query by visual example is the principal query paradigm for expressing queries in a content-based image retrieval environment. Query by image and query by sketch have long been purported as being viable methods of query formulation yet there is little empirical evidence to support their efficacy in facilitating query formulation. The ability of the searcher to express their information problem to an information retrieval system is fundamental to the retrieval process. The aim of this research was to investigate the query by image and query by sketch methods in supporting a range of information problems through a usability experiment in order to contribute to the gap in knowledge regarding the relationship between searchers' information problems and the query methods required to support efficient and effective visual query formulation. The results of the experiment suggest that query by image is a viable approach to visual query formulation. In contrast, the results strongly suggest that there is a significant mismatch between the searchers information problems and the expressive power of the query by sketch paradigm in supporting visual query formulation. The results of a usability experiment focusing on efficiency (time), effectiveness (errors) and user satisfaction show that there was a significant difference, p<0.001, between the two query methods on all three measures: time (Z=-3.597, p<0.001), errors (Z=-3.317, p<0.001), and satisfaction (Z=-10.223, p<0.001). The results also show that there was a significant difference in participants perceived usefulness of the query tools Z=-4.672, p<0.001.

오늘날, 웹 공간에서는 사진과 같은 멀티미디어 자료를 공유하기 위하여 다양한 방법으로 문서의 정보를 표현하고 있다. 이러한 정보를 이용하기 위해 제목, 내용등에서 형태소 분석을 통해 의미가 있는 단어들을 이용하는 경우도 있지만 그 문서 혹은 자료와 관련있는 태그를 기입하고 활용하는 것이 보편화 되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 위키피디아 문서를 이용하여 이미지 태그들 사이의 연관성을 활용하여 이미지 검색 순위를 조정하였다. 약 1000만건의 문서로 이루어진 위키피디아를 이용하여 태그들의 연관성을 계산하였으며, 실험결과 태그 기반의 이미지를 검색 할 때 향상된 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

This paper proposes an image retrieval system which integrates metadata, contents, and emotions in textile images. First, the proposed system searches images using metadata. Among searched images, the system retrieves similar images based on color histogram, color sketch, and emotion histogram. To extract emotion features, this paper uses emotion colors which was proposed on 160 emotion words by H. Nagumo. To enhance the user's convenience, the proposed textile image retrieval system provides additional functions as like enlarging an image, viewing color histogram, viewing color sketch, and viewing repeated patterns.
