Effects of low-level exposure to manganese and lead on immune function (저 농도의 망간과 납 노출이 면역기능에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effects of exposure to manganese (Mn) and lead (Pb) on immune system. The subjects were 42 male workers, among whom 13 office workers (Group I) had never been occupationally exposed to heavy metals, 21 were worked in manufacturing factories (Group II) and 8 were welders (Group III). The mean blood Mn and Pb level by groups were significantly different. The numbers of CD19+ and total lymphocytes in Group I were significantly higher than those in other groups, but no significant differences were found in other T lymphocytes subpopulation. Mn and Pb concentrations showed negative correlation with T lymphocytes subpopulation, but Mn concentrations were statistical significances with T lymphocytes subpoplation except CD4+CD45RO+ and natural killer cell. Pb concentration was only statistical significance with total lymphocytes. Our results suggest that occupationally exposed to Mn and Pb can affect the cellular immune response.

Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Middle-aged Male Smokers' Blood Vessel Health (유산소 운동이 중년흡연남성의 혈관건강에 미치는 영향)

  • This research is aimed to prove if harmful effects of smoking, as the main reason for recently elevated blood vessel disease, could be reduced by aerobic exercise, and identify the positive effects of the aerobic exercise on smokers' blood vessel health(blood pressure, pulse pressure, and blood vessel elasticity. Experiments were performed on 40 male smokers aged between 40 and 55, which was equally divided into two groups of Aerobic Exercise Group (AEG) and Non Exercise Group (NEG). After measuring each group's blood pressure, pulse pressure, and blood vessel elasticity, AEG practiced aerobic exercise program for 50 minutes for each trial, three times a week, sustaining 12 weeks while NEG continued daily-life patterns without any special treatment. In 12 weeks, blood pressure, pulse pressure, and blood vessel elasticity of both groups were measured as the same way. As a result, the difference of systolic blood pressure between the two groups was not significant, while that of diastolic blood pressure was meaningful. The difference of pulse pressure between the two groups was meaningful, and that of blood vessel elasticity was also meaningful in all measuring points including left hand, right hand, left foot and right foot. As a consequent, it was found that aerobic exercise had positive effects on middle aged male smokers' blood vessel health.

  • 본 논문은 생체측정학(Biometrics)중 홍채의 패턴을 이용하는 것으로, 사람의 홍채는 태어날 때 한번 정해지면 평생 변화하지 않으며, 개개인별로 모양이 모두 다른 것으로 알려져 있다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 홍채영상 취득시 조명에 의한 동공의 크기 변화에 민감하지 않은 2차원의 홍채패턴을 취득하고, 2D Gabor 필터와 48개의 분할된 섹터로부터 특징값을 추출한다. 또한, 인식과정에서는 correlation 계수를 이용하여 서로 다른 홍채의 특징값에 대해 유사도를 측정하고 가장 큰 값을 갖는 사람을 찾게 되는데, 이때, 3개의 필터를 거쳐 얻어진 영상에 대해 최고의 값을 인식 대상자로 인정하므로 오인식 될 확률을 최소화 할 수 있다. 제안한 알고리듬의 유용성을 확인하기 위해 남성과 여성 대상자 10명의 왼쪽 눈에 대해 5회 촬영하여 데이터베이스 구축 후, 실험한 결과 90%이상의 높은 인식률을 얻음으로 제안한 알고리듬의 유용성을 확인할 수 있다.

Analysis of the Convergence Pulmonary Function in the 20s Men of Mild Intellectual Disabilities with Obesity According to Position Changes (경도 지적장애를 가진 20대 남성 비만인의 자세변화에 따른 융합적인 폐기능에 대한 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether changes of position might effect the convergence pulmonary function of the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity. Ten subjects of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity(fat group) and ten contrary subjects without obesity(control group) were participated in the experiment. Subjects were assessed for their pulmonary function by using Fit mate according to the position changes(supine position, 45 lean sitting position, 90 sitting position). One-way repeated ANOVA analyzed each region data of pulmonary function of both the fat group and the control group according to their position changes. The result of the experiment showed that the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity have lower pulmonary function than the contrary subjects in the each given posture. In comparison with three experimental positions, supine position was the lowest in the pulmonary function. This study showed the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity have lower function of pulmonary volume than the control group, and thus, it suggests that the pulmonary functional data of 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity in this experiment can be used as a basic respiratory one for the various exercise programs in the area of the physical activities.

The Effects of Functional Tea (Mori Folium, Lycii Fructus, Chrysanthemi Flos, Zizyphi Fructus, Sesamum Semen, Raphani Semen) Supplement with Medical Nutrition Therapy on the Blood Lipid Levels and Antioxidant Status in Subjects with Hyperlipidemia (고지혈증 환자에서 의학영양치료와 병행하여 섭취한 기능성차(상엽, 구기자, 국화, 대추, 참깨, 나복자)의 혈중 지질 농도 저하 및 항산화 효과)

  • Hyperlipidemia is one of the risk factors for coronary artery disease. Despite of epidemiological evidence that tea consumption is associated with the reduced risk of coronary heart disease, experimental studies designed to show that drinking tea affects blood lipid concentration or oxidative stress have been unsuccessful. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether functional tea (three servings/day) supplement with medical nutrition therapy (MNT) lead to a beneficial outcomes in mildly hyperlipidemic adults. From February to October, 2003, the 43 hyperlipidemic (23 men, 20 women) subjects (total cholesterol$\geq$200 mg/dL or triglyceride$\geq$150 mg/dL) admitted to K Medical Center were studied. Subjects were randomly divided into 3 groups; placebo tea (PT), half dose of functional tea (HFT), full dose of functional tea (FFT). During 12 weeks of study period, the subjects were given placebo or functional tea daily with MNT. Anthropometric measurements, blood chemical analysis including lipid levels, total superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels, and dietary assessment were carried out at the beginning and end of experiment. The effects of functional tea were compared with the placebo in randomized clinical trial study. The placebo was prepared to match with the functional tea in color and taste. After the 12 weeks of MNT, the subjects had regular and balanced meal pattern. Consumption of foods high in cholesterol and saturated fat, salty foods, fried foods, and instant foods decreased significantly in all three groups (p<0.05). Intake of energy and cholesterol also decreased (p<0.05). Drinking three servings per day (390 mL/day) of functional tea significantly reduced the levels of blood triglyceride (HFT, 42.5%; FFT, 29.4%), total cholesterol (HFT, 8.5%; FFT, 13.7%), and atherogenic index (HFT, 14.6%; FFT, 21.7%). Whereas no changes were found in the LDL-, HDL-cholesterollevels, and LDL/HDL ratio. Plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentration decreased significantly (p<0.05) in functional tea groups (HFT, 14.9%; FFT, 14.1%). SOD increased significantly (p<0.05) in HFT (8.3%). GSH-Px increased significantly (p<0.05) in FFT (12.8%). In conclusion, the MNT improved the dietary habits, in addition, functional tea supplement decreased blood lipid levels and Hcy, and increased SOD and GSH-Px levels. These results indicate that functional tea consumption may decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease via improving blood lipid levels and antioxidant status.

Effect of Combined Exercise Program on Body Composition, Health-Related Fitness and Blood Lipid in Middle-Aged Man (중년남성의 복합운동프로그램에 따른 신체구성, 건강관련체력 및 혈중지질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of combined exercise on body composition, health-related fitness and blood lipid. Subjects was ten middle-aged man. The combined exercise program consisted of performed for 60min in a bout, 4 times a week at the intensity of heart rate max$(50\sim75%)$ for 12 weeks. and the change of %fat, learn body mass, body mass index, back strength, sit-up, sit and reach total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and high density lipoprotein cholesterol have been measured before and post exercise 12 weeks. Paired t-test was performed for data analysis at the 0.05 level of significance.

The effect of elastic band with blood flow restriction training on recovery of balance ability (혈류제한성 탄력밴드 훈련이 균형능력 회복에 미치는 효과)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 균형에 이상이 있는 20대 정상 성인에게 혈류제한성 탄력밴드 훈련 적용 시 균형능력 회복에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 12명의 남성을 대상으로 대조군(n=6), 실험군(n=6)으로 무작위할당하였다. 두 군은 고강도 축구경기를 통한 균형능력 손상 유발 후 실험군은 1주일 3회 1시간씩 4주 동안 혈류제한성 탄력밴드 훈련을 실시하였고, 대조군은 아무런 훈련을 실시하지 않았다. 모든 대상자는 경기 전, 경기 후, 경기 4주 후에 정적 및 동적 균형을 측정하였다. 연구 결과, 정적균형에서 대조군은 경기 전으로 유의한 회복을 나타내지 않았으나, 실험군은 유의한 회복을 나타냈다. 동적균형에서는 대조군과 실험군 모두에서 유의한 회복을 나타냈다. 혈류제한성 탄력밴드 운동은 단기간에 효율적으로 근력을 향상시킴으로써 균형능력 회복에 긍정적 영향을 줄 수 있다고 판단된다.

The Effects of Knee Sleeve with a Stimulation of Golgi Tendon Organ on One Leg Standing and Proprioception (무릎 슬리브 착용과 골지 건 기관 자극이 한 발 서기 동작과 고유수용성 감각에 미치는 영향)

  • Knee sleeve has been used for prevention of sport injuries as well as rehabilitation. To investigate prevention of sport injuries of knee sleeve, it is important to evaluate balance associated with proprioception. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a knee sleeve with a pad that stimulate to golgi tendon organ (GTO_PAD) on proprioception and balance ability. Five healthy males were participated for the study. They were asked to reenact target angle with Biodex and perform one leg standing with knee sleeve and knee sleeve with GTO_PAD. There was no significant difference in %Target angle, but the value of %Target angle was higher in subjects wearing knee sleeve with GTO_PAD than only knee sleeve, except for one subject. During one leg standing, time duration was increased in subjects wearing knee sleeve with GTO_PAD. The length of center of pressure in x-axis (COPx) and COP in y-axis (COPy) were decreased when wearing knee sleeve with GTO_PAD (COPx : $162.06{\pm}58.99mm$ in knee sleeve vs. $149.03{\pm}45.30mm$ in knee sleeve with GTO_PAD, COPy : $310.79{\pm}115.89mm$ in knee sleeve, $291.57{\pm}76.53mm$ in knee sleeve with GTO_PAD). There was significant differences in INI_transition, steady, and LAT_transition phase (all, p < 0.05). These findings support that wearing knee sleeve with GTO_PAD might enhance proprioception and balance.

The Effects of Core Fundamental Nursing Program on Core Fundamental Nursing Skills Competency, Clinical Competency and Problem Solving Process (핵심기본간호술 교육프로그램이 핵심기본간호술 수행능력, 임상수행능력 및 문제해결과정에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was pre-experimental research designed to compare the differences between pre-and post the effect of core fundamental education program of senior nursing student′s core fundamental nursing skills, clinical competency and problem solving process for one semester. Core fundamental education program which consists of three steps, 12 session. The subjects of this study were 192 graduates of one nursing college and surveyed from March 20 to June 23, 2017. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the paired t-test, t-test, ANOVA by SAS for Windows(ver. 9.8) and AMOS(ver. 20.0) As a result, pre-post recognition level of core fundamental education program was nursing skills competency pre $(3.42{\pm}.42)$ and post $3.88({\pm}.61)$, clinical competency was pre $3.74({\pm}.47)$ and post $3.98({\pm}.67)$. The core fundamental nursing skills(p=.017), clinical competency(p=.041) increased significantly after education program. Core fundamental nursing skills, clinical competency and problem solving process was significantly different according to male group(p=.003/p=.013/p=.005), high satisfaction group in nursing major(p=<.000/p=.009/p=<.000), confidence improvement group(p=.044/p=.047/p=.004) at the core skill contest. In conclusion, this study showed that the core fundamental nursing education program of senior nursing students had a positive effect on core fundamental nursing skills and clinical competency.

A Biomechanical Analysis of Foot-Floor Reaction Forces Measured When Walking over an Obstacle (장애물을 걸어서 넘어갈때 측정한 발반력에 대한 생체역학적 해석)

  • A biomechanical approach was carried out to analyze foot-floor reaction forces acting on five male subjects performing a walking task. The task analyzed was walking over an obstacle with the right bare foot. The foot-floor reaction data were measured from a force plate, and then processed using a software developed. The source program was coded in the C language for easier on-line data acquisition and graphic displays. High repeatability was found in the reaction data acquired from three trials by each subject. For obstacle height from 0 to 25 cm, the maximum in reaction force reached up to 1.048 BW in the vertical, 0.174 BW in the anterior-posterior, and 0.054 BW in the medio-lateral components, respectively. A quantity was defined by the difference between two vertical reaction values, and this quantity was found to be proportional to the obstacle height. It was also shown that the whole body motion could be predicted the measured foot-floor reaction data.
