FLAP DEFLECTION OPTIMZATION FOR TRANSONIC CRUISE PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT OF SUPERSONIC TRANSPORT WING (초음속 날개의 천음속 순항성능 향상을 위한 플랩 꺽임각 최적화)

  • 초음속 여객기의 천음속 순항 성능을 개선하기 위하여 날개의 플랩 꺽임각을 최적화하였다. 이를 위하여 3차원 Euler 코드와 adjoint 코드를 이용한 최적설계기법을 적용하였다. 설계변수로서, 앞전플랩 5개, 뒷전 플랩 5개 등 총 10개의 플랩의 꺽임각이 사용되었다. 설계과정중에 격자계 내부격자점의 수정을 위해 타원형방정식법을 이용하였다. 계산 시간의 단축을 위해 내부격자의 민감도는 무시하였다. 또한 본 설계문제에 근사구배기법의 적용가능성 여부를 조사하였다. 충격파가 없는 경우 앞전 플렙에 한하여 근사구배기법을 적용할 수 있음을 알았다. 최적설계기법으로 BFGS기법을 적용하여 항력을 최소화하였으며, 양력 및 날개 표면 마하수에 대한 제약조건을 적용하였다. 앞전 플랩의 최적화 및 앞전과 뒷전 플랩의 최적화 등 두 개의 설계 문제를 고려하였다. 성공적인 결과를 얻음으로써 본 설계방법의 타당성 및 효율성을 확인하였다.

  • This study presents computational analysis of aerodynamic characteristics of two-dimensional airfoil sections with elastic flap attached at the trailing edge. EDISON_CFD was utilized to simulate the incompressible turbulent flow around the foil and MIDAS_IT was employed to estimate the deflection of the flap under the pressure loading. Using iterative procedure, the terminal deflection was estimated and the resulting lift-drag ratio indicates that the favorable effect of the flap is expected within certain amount of angle of attack.

  • 선행 연구에서 블레이드 뒷전에 탄성 플랩이 장착되면 받음각에 따라 양력의 증가가 항력의 증가보다 상대적으로 더 커지게 되어 전체적인 양항비(앙력과 항력의 비)가 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 본 논문에서는 선행의 연구를 참조하여 플랩의 길이가 변함에 따라서 양력과 항력의 변화를 비교하였다. 블레이드의 종류와 플랩의 제원은 현재 이용되는 수직축 풍력 발전기의 제품과 동일하게 사용하였다. EDISON_CFD와 MIDAS_IT를 이용하여 플랩이 장착된 블레이드 주변의 유체 유동을 해석하고, 플랩의 상하변위를 계산하였다. 이 과정을 반복 수행하여 플랩의 거동을 분석하고 플랩의 길이와 받음각에 따른 양항비를 비교하여 이전보다 효율적인 플랩을 설계하였다.

  • The present paper is the preliminary study of the development of a morphing aircraft wing and investigates experimently the aerodynamic characteristics of a base airfoil and a morphing airfoil. The wind tunnel tests are conducted for a base Clark-Y airfoil, an airfoil with a mechanical flap, and a morphing airfoil. Lifts, drags, and pitching moments are measured by using a three-axis load cell and they are calibrated by considering solid blockage and wake blockage. The wind tunnel tests are conducted for various air speeds, Reynolds' numbers, and angles of attack. The experimental results show that the aerodynamic characteristics of the morphing airfoil in lift-drag and lift-pitching moment are better than those of the airfoil with a mechanical flap.

Canard-Leading Edge Flap Scheduling for the Maneuverability Enhancement of a Fighter Class Aircraft (전투기급 항공기 기동성 증대를 위한 카나드-앞전플랩 스케줄링)

  • During the conceptual design phase of a wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft, as a method of maneuverability enhancement for an aircraft, effects of canard-leading edge flap scheduling have been studied. In this study, corrected supersonic panel method has been used to predict the drag polar characteristics due to canard-leading edge flap deflections in the high speed regime. Utilizing the predicted drag polar curves, the canard-leading edge flap scheduling laws have been established. These scheduling laws are the relation of canard-leading edge flap deflections and the flight conditions to maximize the lift-drag ratio. Based on the results obtained from the canard-leading edge flap scheduling, the present method has shown to be useful to enhance the maneuverability of wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft.

  • Three kind of system composed with buoyant flap hinged at the sea floor are modeled experimentally. The mechanically coupled system provides shelter by reflecting incident waves and by attenuating wave energy through structural and viscous damping. The characteristics of wave reflection, transmission and dynamic angle of the flap oscillation for various conditions were investigated. The structure can minimize wave transmission by attaching offshore wing wall.

  • In this study, a swirl generator using delta wing was developed in order to simulate total pressure distortion and flow angle distortion. The delta wing was used for $65^{\circ}$-degree sweep back angle to satisfy the design performance for vortex core position, total pressure distortion(DC90) and swirl angle. To extend the swirling flow area, a $45^{\circ}$-degree vortex flap have applied to the delta wing. The swirl generator satisfied the design requirement of distortion coefficient in the flow distortion test to be applied to the simulation duct, and the performances of distortion for vortex core position and swirl angle using CFD(computational fluid dynamics) analysis results that was verified by flow distortion test results.

  • With the progress of micro actuator technology, studies on the development of micro air flapping wing vehicles are actively undergoing. In the present study, the changes of both lift and thrust characteristics of the wings are investigated using a boundary element method. Lift of the heaving wing is not generated when the wing is beating with smaller frequencies than 1 Hz. Thrust increases with amplitude and frequency. As the wing's taper and aspect ratios increase, both lift and thrust also increase. Results on the pitching oscillation and flapping motion will be included in the future work.

  • In this study, dynamic aeroelastic analyses of the canard with oscillating flap are conducted considering the effect of aerodynamic compressibility. The canard model considered herein is an all-movable type with a pitching axis on a canard-rotor-wing aircraft which was considered as one of the major UAV candidates under developing in Korea. The equivalent structural model is constructed based on the initial design data by the Korea smart UAV development center. Both the frequency and the time-domain aeroelastic analyses have been applied to practically conduct parametric studies on the effects of equivalent torsional stiffness. In the case of all-movable control surface with oscillating flap, the equivalent rotational stiffness of the pitch axes are important design parameters. The parametric results for the aeroelastic instability are practically presented.

  • Ship maneuverability is mainly determined according to hull-propeller-rudder system of a ship and directly related to the ship safety during the operation in the ocean. Among hull-propeller-rudder system the rudder system had direct concern with the ship maneuverability and a special rudder has been recommended to improve the ship maneuverability. In this paper the study of flapped rudder's 2-dimensional section was accomplished Model tests had been carried out with different angles of attack of a main foil and flap's deflection angles to predict the performance of the flapped rudder and the 2 frame particle tracking method had been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flow field during model tests. $Re=1.027{\times}10^4$ had been used during the whole experiments and measured results had been compared with each other.
