Reproductive Biology of Common Octopus, Octopus vulgaris in the South Sea of Korea (한국 남해안에 분포하는 참문어(Octopus vulgaris)의 생식생물학적 연구)

  • Samples were collected monthly from coastal water around Tongyeong and Sacheon in Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea, using traps. A total of 748 Octopus vulgaris were sampled from February 2007 to January 2008. Monthly changes of maturity stages and sex ratio of the common octopus were observed. Mean biomass (total wet weight) of the female specimens ranged from 129.8 to 3,381.4 g and that of the male specimens ranged from 128.6 and 2,378.4 g. The spawning periods were May to June and September. The fecundity ranged from 5,715 eggs at 252.0 g to 240,990 eggs at 3,381.4 g of total wet weight. The relationship between total wet weight (TW) and fecundity (F) was F = 26.539 $TW^{1.1548}$ ($r^2=0.8199$) and fecundity increased with total wet weight. Sex ratio was not significantly different from the 1:1 (p > 0.05).

  • Chaenogobius laevis inhabit brackish waters. Adult male protects egg mass laid under the stones. The egg with small oil globule varied from 3.40 to 4.04 mm in diameter. When water temperature is $22.0\~23.0^{\circ}C$, larvae hatched about 113 hours after fertilization. The newly hatched larvae reared for 33 days grow up to 12.10 mm in total length and developed to the jevenile. When larvae length attained about 8.0 mm, jaw bones were more rapidly ossified than vertebrae and cranium.

  • Sexual maturation of the bluespotted mud hopper, Boleophthalmus Pectinirostris(Linnaeus) was investigated histologically on the gonadal development, and studied by gonadosomatic index(GSI), egg diameter composition. Samples were collected in the intertidal zone of Wolyon-ri, Hoihyon-myon, Okku-gun, Chollabuk-do, Korea, from April to October in 1988 and from June to August in 1989. The ovary is a pair of sac-shaped organ. The testis is a pair of tubule-shaped organ and it is connected to the seminal vesicle which is located at the posterior end of the testis. In male and female, GSI began to increase from late May when the water temperature began to increase and reached the maximum value in June and July, respectively. It began to decrease from August, the highest water temperature season. Thereafter, maintained relatively low values until October. The annual reproductive cycle of this species could be classified into four sucessive developmental stages: growing stage$(April{\~}May)$, mature stage$(June{\~}early\;July)$, ripe and spent stage(late lune-early August), degenerative and resting stage$(late\;August{\~}March:\;the wintering\;period)$. According to the frequency distributions of egg diameters in the spawning season, Boleophthalmus Pectinirostris was species to spawn twice or more in the spawning season.

  • The experiment was conducted to understand the effect of HCG upon ovulation induction and egg maturation in the sevenband grouper, Epinephelus septemfasciatus, as a part of the research for its resources management and seed production. Three different size groups of sevenband groupers showing 300~400g, 1,500~2,000g and 2,500~4,000g, were collected from June to August, 1996. They were treated two or three times with HCG (500~1,000 IU/kg). Gonadal development of the sevenband groupers were examined using the paraffin section method and then stained with haematoxylin and eosin. When smaller groups of sevenband grouper having 300~400g, 1,500~2,00g and 2,500~3,200g in weight were treated two or three time with HCG 9500~1,000 IU/g), their gonads contained oogonia, oocytes with the size of 20~30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and stroma tissues. However, in case of two HCG treatments with a dosage of 1,000 IU/kg on sevenband groupers of 3,400~4,000g, both healthy eggs of $800\mu$m in diameter and regressing eggs were ovulated. A sevenband grouper of 4,000g obvulated 4,252 eggs in total. Of these, healthy and regressing eggs turned out to be 20.8% and 79.2%, respectively. In addition, previtellogenic oocytes of around $50\mu$m, oocytes of 20~$30\mu$m, and ovulation trace were also observed in the gonad.

A Study on the Su hyeol lon (兪穴論) of the Nan gyeong (難經) (난경(難經).유혈론(兪穴論)에 대(對)한 연구(硏究))

  • The nan gyeong(難經) is another name of hwang je pal sib-il nan gyeong(黃帝八十一難經) which is book of traditional oriental medicine that contains many medical theories. This thesis studies 'su-hyeol'(兪穴) that is recorded in the books. 1. '62th nan' contains that um-gyeong(陰經) has five su-hyeols and yang-gyeong(陽經) has six su-hyeols. 2. '63th nan' contains why Jeong-hyeol(井穴) starts at first among the five su-hyeols. 3. '64th nan' appears su-hyeol's character and explains it's reason. 4. '65th nan' discusses that some divisions of su-hyeol's character correspond with the climate. 5. '66th nan' explains the importance of 'Won-hyeol(原穴). 6. '67th nan' appears the eum-yang's character of 'Mo-hyeol'(募穴), eum-yang's character of 'Bae-suhyeol'(背兪穴), it's situation and it's pathological significance. 7. '68th nan' explains the stream of 'su-hyeol' in twelve meridians and it's symptoms of a disease. The Nan gyeong(難經) has the difficulty in it's contents and many scholars take charge of that differently. In that reason, each argument is subjectly. This thesis unites scholar's arguments of 'Su-hyeol'(兪穴) as many as possibly and investigates their differences objectively.

  • With advances in techniques and instrumentation, the primary concern of microsurgeons has shifted from flap anatomy and survival toward flap refinement and donor-site function and aesthetics because flap survival rates have risen 96 percent. However, the problem still remains on regard that most flap has disadvantages that flap itself is too bulky or leaves unaesthetic scar to the donor site. These problems can be solved by using adipofascial flap instead of fasciocutaneous flap. The adipofascial flap not only has minimal donor site morbidity, but also can be retained thin. It seems that its advantages can be applied on soft tissue defect of exposed body part.

Numerical Simulation for Dry Deposition Velocity of Ozone According to Land-use Types (지표면의 종류에 따른 오존의 건성침적속도에 관한 수치모의)

  • Ozone is an important atmospheric pollutant that is occurred in tropospheric chemical process and it also affects the human health and plants. For a correct application of abatement strategies for ozone, it is necessary to understand the factors that control atmospheric ozone removal by dry deposition processes. The present study investigates the numerical simulation of the dry deposition velocity (V$^{d}$ ) obtained from PNU/DEM (Pusan National University Deposition Model). PNU/DEM includes seasonal categories, meteorological factors, surface properties and land-use types and proposes for an accurate numerical computation. And, this study examines the ability of the PNU/DEM to compute V$_{d}$ of ozone over water surfaces and evaluates PNU/DEM by comparing its estimated V$_{d}$ to past observed V$_{d}$ over water. The parametrization was found to yield V$_{d}$ values generally in good agreement with the observations for the deciduous forest and the coniferous forest. Ozone is removed slowly at wet surface or water due to its low water solubility. Therefore V$_{d}$ values over water were lower than Vd values over the other surfaces. Comparison of PNU/DEM simulated V d values to observations of ozone V$_{d}$ that have been reported in the literature implies that PNU/DEM produces realistic results.

Experience of Surgical Treatment through Ambulatory Care Unit (일 병원에서 통원병실을 이용한 수술적 치료의 경험)

  • Background : in order to adapt to changes of the medical environm interests that is drawn in ambulatory surgery are increased as a method of approaching a patients' satisfaction and cost-effective management. The purpose of this study is to a assess the operation which is able to perform through ambulatory care unit, to identify the problem in ambulatory surgery, and to increased the opportunity of ambulatory surgery with safety. Methods : Between May 13th, 1998 and June 30th, 2000, we performed surgical treatment through ambulatory care unit, and evaluate the results of them. The sorts of operation, duration of stay in the hospital, total cost of treatment, satisfaction of patients and safety if anesthesia were assessed. Results : We performed ambulatory surgery without serve complications and the patients were satisfied with surgical treatment through ambulatory care unit. In comparison of ambulatory and admission surgery, there was a reduction of cost to 16.7~25.3% in ambulatory surgery. Also, the duration of admission was 2 days shorter than admission surgery. Conclusions : According to our results, the surgical treatment through ambulatory care unit is safe and useful method that increase the quality of medical service, satisfaction of patients and reduce the cost of treatments.

Interpretation and Clinical Meanings of 'Yang-Deficiency with Yin-Prosperity(陽虛陰盛) and Yang-Prosperity with Yin-Deficiency(陽盛陰虛) in Cold Diseases(傷寒病)' from Nangyeong(難經)·Chapter 58 (『난경(難經)·오십팔난(五十八難)』의 '상한(傷寒) 양허음성(陽虛陰盛), 양성음허(陽盛陰虛)'의 의미(意味)와 임상(臨床) 의의(意義))

  • Objective : The interpretation of 'yang-deficiency and yin-prosperity, yang-prosperity and yin-deficiency in cold diseases' from Nangyeong has been various until now. For further understanding Nangyeong, the exact interpretation of this phrase has been required. Methods : Collect the contents that are related this phrase from the commentary of Nangyeong, Sanghannon(傷寒論), and other traditional Chinse and Korean medical books. Based on analyzing them, compare Nangyeong with Sanghannon. Results : The meaning of Yin-Yang in the phrase have 5 viewpoints, except one that this phrase is not correct. If the phrase is interpreted according to Sanghanseorye(傷寒序例), the valid interpretation is that yin-yang has two different meaning in the one phrase. Conclusion : 'Yang-deficiency and yin-prosperity' from Nangyeong goes for the outer symptoms of Taeyangbyeong(太陽病) in cold diseases, yang-prosperity and yin-deficiency from it goes for the inner symptoms of Yangmyeongbyeong(陽明病) in cold diseases.

A Study on the Great Principle of Pulse Diagnosis in the 『Nanjing』 (『난경(難經)』의 진맥(診脈) 대법(大法)에 관한 고찰)

  • Objectives : This paper aims to examine the system, principle, and fundamentals of the great principle of pulse diagnosis in the 『Nanjing』. Methods : The system, principle, and fundamentals of pulse diagnosis in the 『Nanjing』 were examined within the book's description framework and logical structure in light of its relationship to the 『Huangdineijing』. Previous studies that follow pulse diagnosis of 『Nanjing』 and 『Wangshuhe Maijue』 were referenced. Results & Conclusions : The structure of pulse diagnosis in the 『Nanjing』 is systematically organized under the principle of the three positions and nine indicators as the great principle to which the yinyang and five viscera pulse theories are included. The great principle of the three positions and nine indicators is consisted of a system that allows for a multiple and comprehensive interpretation wherein the theories of yinyang and five elements are interweaved within the pulse diagnosis system, which is comprised of a great principle and particular principles. The theory follows that of the three yin three yang theory of the five circuits and six qi, its principles manifesting as the three positions and nine indicators and integration of pulse and symptoms.
