Shipboard Fire Evacuation Route Prediction Algorithm Development (선박 화재시 승선자 피난동선예측을 위한 알고리즘 개발 기초연구)

  • In this study, an algorithm to predict evacuation routes in support of shipboard lifesaving activities is presented. As the first step of algorithm development, the feasibility and necessity of an evacuation route prediction algorithm are shown numerically. The proposed algorithm can be explained in brief as follows. This system continuously obtains and analyzes passenger movement data from the ship's monitoring system during non-disaster conditions. In case of a disaster, evacuation route prediction information is derived using the previously acquired data and a prediction tool, with the results provided to rescuers to minimize casualties. In this study, evacuation-related data obtained through fire evacuation trials was filtered and analyzed using a statistical method. In a simulation using the conventional evacuation prediction tool, it was found that reliable prediction results were obtained only in the SN1 trial because of the conceptual and structural nature of the tool itself. In order to verify the validity of the algorithm proposed in this study, an industrial engineering tool was adapted for evacuation characteristics prediction. When the proposed algorithm was implemented, the predicted values for average evacuation time and route were very similar to the measured values with error ranges of 0.6-6.9 % and 0.6-3.6 %, respectively. In the future, development of a high-performance evacuation route prediction algorithm is planned based on shipboard data monitoring and analysis.

Performance Test of Wall to Wall Modular Structure Joint for Near-surface Transit (저심도 모듈식 구조체의 벽체간 연결 조인트 성능검증 실험)

  • To overcome the weaknesses of viaduct bridges and the non-economic efficiency of underground LRT, the study of near-surface railway systems is in progress. To apply a box structure to the low depth transit, a connection joint to precast modules are very important when applying precast modular structures to replace temporary structures. In this study, wall to wall connections were applied in diverse cases such as rebar connections, guiding structures that were used to fit the verticality of precast walls during construction, and non-reinforcement structures used only for waterstop. Experimental performance verification was carried out for the bending, shear and splitting of the wall to wall connection. Precision of construction joints between wall to wall was identified as a factor that influenced the structural performance of the precast wall. A structure that can serve as a guide during the vertical insertion of a wall is confirmed for the most suitable case, but it will be necessary to modify this structure for detailed cases.

Cooling Performance on the Small Diesel Engine (소형(小型)디젤기관(機關)의 냉각성능(冷却性能)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic data for the design of cooling system by the test of engine performance of the power tiller being used widely in the rural area. Among the various factors affecting engine performance, the flow rate of cooling water was considered as the major factor in this study. Motoring loss, output, fuel consumption ratio, torque, heat absorption of cooling water, and thermal efficiency were measured and analyzed based on three flow rates of cooling water such as 15, 20, and $25{\ell}/min$. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Motoring loss of the engine was 1.371 kW at 2,200 rpm., and mechanical efficiency was 79.1% at rated output level. 2. Output power of the engine increased with the flow rate of cooling water increased. 3. BSFC was 282.9g/kW-h at the flow rate of $20{\ell}/min$, and the temperature of cooling water at outlet was $80.9^{\circ}C$. 4. There was a little variation of torque of the engine depending on the flow rate of cooling water. 5. Absorption of heat by cooling water was increased with the increase of flow rate. 6. The highest thermal efficiency of 32.3% at the flow rate of $20{\ell}/min$ was observed.

Study of antioxidant activities of extracts from Metaplexis japonica leaf and stem (박주가리(Metaplexis japonica Makino) 잎과 줄기 추출물의 항산화 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Metaplexis japonica by using hot-water and ethanol extracts of its leaf and stem. Yields of hot-water and ethanol extracts of M. japonica leaf were high at 6.89 and 6.23%, respectively. The polyphenol and flavonoid contents in ethanol extracts of M. japonica leaf (ALEE) were high (86.96 and 60.73 mg/g, respectively). The electron-donating ability of all M. japonica extracts increased with an increase in extract concentration, with the highest electron-donating ability of 36.20~68.19% shown by hot-water extracts of M. japonica leaf (ALWE). The superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activities of ALWE and ALEE increased with an increase in extract concentration. The nitrite-scavenging ability of the extracts was the highest at pH 1.2 and that of ALWE was higher than that of ALEE. The reducing power of $62.5{\mu}g/mL$ ALEE was 0.09 and that of $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ was 0.44. The inhibitory effect of an ethanol extract of M. japonica stem (ASEE) on tyrosinase was 13.81% at a concentration of $62.5{\mu}g/mL$ and that of $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ ALEE was 57.04%.

Characterization of Carbonized MDF by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray diffraction (주사전자현미경 및 X선회절법에 의한 탄화 MDF의 특성)

  • As a fundamental study to develop absorbing materials on harmful volatile organic compounds (VOC) such as formaldehyde, structural and crystalline characteristics of MDF carbonized at different temperatures were examined by a scanning electron microscope and an X-ray diffraction method. Fibers in surface layer of MDFs showed more compressed morphology than those in middle layer of MDFs, but the porosity of MDFs increased with increasing the carbonized temperature. The wrinkle shape was frequently surfaces of cell walls was more severe than that at the lumina of cells. The shape of pits in the fibers of carbonized MDFs were hardly changed. The cell walls of MDFs carbonized at $400^{\circ}C$ and over showed an amorphous-like structure without cell layering. X-ray diffratograms from the MDFs carbonized at $400^{\circ}C$ showed a trace of crystalline cellulose. On the other hand, an amorphous diffraction pattern from carbons was obtained with the MDFs carbonized at $1,000^{\circ}C$.

In-Vitro Thrombosis Detection of Mechanical Valve using Artificial Neural Network (인공신경망을 이용한 기계식 판막의 생체외 모의 혈전현상 검출)

  • Mechanical valve is one of the most widely used implantable artificial organs of which the reliability is so important that its failure means the death of patient. Therefore early noninvasive detection is essentially required, though mechanical valve failure with thrombosis is the most common. The objective of this paper is to detect the thrombosis formation by spectral analysis and neural network. Using microphone and amplifier, we measured the sound from the mechanical valve which is attached to the pneumatic ventricular assist device. The sound was sampled by A/D converter(DaqBook 100) and the periodogram is the main algorithm for obtaining spectrum. We made the thrombosis models using pellethane and silicon and they are thrombosis model on the valvular disk, around the sewing ring and fibrous tissue growth across the orifice of valve. The performance of the measurment system was tested firstly using 1 KHz sinusoidal wave. The measurement system detected well 1KHz spectrum as expected. The spectrum of normal and 5 kinds of thrombotic valve were obtained and primary and secondary peak appeared in each spectrum waveform. We find that the secondary peak changes according to the thrombosis model. So to distinguish the secondary peak of normal and thrombotic valve quantatively, 3 layer back propagation neural network, which contains 7, 000 input node, 20 hidden layer and 1 output was employed The trained neural network can distinguish normal and valve with more than 90% probability. As a conclusion, the noninvasive monitoring of implanted mechanical valve is possible by analysing the acoustical spectrum using neural network algorithm and this method will be applied to the performance evaluation of other implantable artificial organs.

Activity Comparison According to Prepared Method of Cu-Mn Oxide Catalyst for Toluene Combustion (톨루엔 분해를 위한 구리-망간 산화물 촉매의 제조방법에 따른 활성 비교)

  • Catalytic combustion of toluene was investigated on the Cu-Mn oxide catalysts prepared by the impregnation(Imp) and the deposition-precipitation(DP) methods. The mixing of copper and manganese has been found to enhance the activity of catalysts. It is then found that catalytic efficiency of the Cu-Mn oxide catalyst prepared by the DP method on combustion of toluene is much higher than that of the Cu-Mn oxide catalyst prepared by Imp method with the same chemical composition. The catalyst prepared by the deposition-precipitation method observed no change of toluene conversion at time on stream during 10 days and at the addition of water vapor. On the basis of catalyst characterization data, it has been suggested that the catalysts prepared by the DP method showed uniform distribution and smaller particle size on the surface of catalyst and then enhanced reduction capability of catalysts. Therefore, we think that the DP method leads on progressive capacity of catalyst and promotes stability of catalyst. It was also presumed that catalytic conversion of toluene on the Cu-Mn oxide catalyst depends on redox reaction and $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_4$ spinel phase acts as the major active sites of catalyst.

Formation of Magnesium Films on Galvanized Steel Substrates by PVD Method at Nitrogen Gas Pressures and Their Corrosion Resistances (질소가스 중 PVD법에 의해 용융아연도금 강판 상에 형성한 마그네슘 막의 내식특성)

  • 철강은 기본적으로 강도가 우수하고 그 매장량이 풍부할 뿐만 아니라 대량생산이 가능하다 또한 다른 금속과 합금을 구성하여 또 다른 특성을 부여할 수 있기 때문에 현재 전 세계 금속 생산량의 95%를 차지할 정도로 많이 사용되며, 각종 산업과 기술이 발달함에 따라 그 중요도는 점점 더 커져가고 있다. 하지만 철강은 사용 환경 중 부식에 의해 그 수명과 성능이 급격히 저하되기 때문에 내식성을 향상시키기 위하여 도장이나 도금 등의 표면처리를 포함한 다양한 방법이 적용되고 있다. 그 중 철강재의 도금 표면처리방법은 주로 아연을 이용한 용융도금이나 전기도금 등과 같은 습식 프로세스가 널리 사용되고 있다. 여기서 아연은 철보다 이온화 경향은 크나 대기 환경 중 산소와 물과 반응하여 Zn(OH)2와 같은 화합물을 형성함으로써 철강재 표면상 부식인자를 차단(Barrier)함은 물론 사용 중 철 모재가 노출되는 결함이 발생하는 경우에는 철을 대신하여 희생양극(Sacrificial Anode) 역할을 하기 때문에 철의 부식방식용 금속으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 한편 최근에는 철강의 사용 환경이 다양해짐은 물론 가혹해지고 있어서 이에 따른 내식성 향상이 계속해서 요구되고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 일환으로 현재 많이 사용되고 있는 용융아연도금 강판 상에 아연보다 활성이 높은 마그네슘(Mg)을 건식 프로세스 방법 중에 하나인 PVD(Physical Vapour Deposition)법에 의해 코팅하는 것을 시도하였다. 일반적으로 PVD법에 의해 진공증착하는 경우에는 그 도입가스로써 불활성가스인 아르곤(Ar)을 사용하는 경우가 대부분이나 여기서는 상대적으로 비활성이면서 그 크기가 작은 질소(N2)가스를 도입하여 그 증착 막의 몰포로지는 물론 결정구조도 제어하여 그 내식특성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 방법으로 마그네슘(Mg)를 PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition)법 중 진공증착법(Vacuum Deposition)을 사용하여 용융아연도금 강판 상에 마그네슘 증착 막을 형성하였다. 즉, 여기서는 진공증착 중 질소(Nitrogen, N2)가스를 도입하여 진공챔버(Vacuum Chamber)내의 진공도를 $1{\times}10^{-1}$, $1{\times}10^{-2}$, $1{\times}10^{-3}$, $1{\times}10^{-4}$로 조절하며 제작하였다. 또한 제작된 시편에 대해서는 SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) 및 XRD(X-Ray Diffraction)을 사용하여 형성된 아연도금상 마그네슘 막의 표면 몰포로지 및 결정구조의 변화를 분석함은 물론 침지시험, 염수분무시험, 분극시험을 통해 이 막들에 대한 내식특성을 분석 평가하였다. 상기 실험결과에 의하면, 진공 가스압이 증가됨에 따라 마그네슘 막의 두께는 감소하였으며, 그 몰포로지의 단면은 주상정(Columnar)에서 입상정(Granular) 구조로 변화하며 표면의 결정립은 점점 미세화 되는 경향을 나타냈다. 이때의 표면의 결정배향성(Crystal orientation)은 표면에너지가 상대적으로 큰 면이 우세하게 나타나는 경향이 있었다. 또한 본 실험에서 형성한 진공증착 막은 비교재인 용융아연도금강판보다 우수한 내식성을 나타냈고, 본 형성 막 중에는 마그네슘 막 두께가 작음에도 불구하고 질소 가스압이 가장 큰 조건일수록 내식성이 우수한 경향을 나타냈다. 이상의 결과는 철강재의 내식성 향상을 위한 응용표면처리설계에 기초적인 지침을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

A Study on the Eco-Friendly Durable Pre-Painting for Concrete Structure (콘크리트 구조물의 친환경 내구성 도장에 관한 기초 연구)

  • A concrete structure has become bigger and higher because of development of construction technology and a change in construction environment. Also it tends to focus on repairing, reinforcement and exterior in harmony with environment for structure maintenance and performance improvement. The research is about eco friendly durable painting applicable to concrete structure using civil and architecture. it purpose to improve external beauties and durable problems due to flexibility by variation of temperature, adhesion of exterior wall, crack and delamination in existing organic and mineral painting. For those problems, we made a eco friendly pre-paint that is made with preliminary treatment mixture as a highly enriched waterproof agent and adhesive increasing agent in preprocessing mixture. Then we performed an experiment on durability of prevention neutralization of concrete, durability abrasion, hiding power, adhesion, temperature resistance and resistance to chemical attack. The result of an experiment shows that hiding power is over 0.96 in standard test, durability abrasion test got higher value 1mg than water paint 75mg and tensile strength is 6 times higher than standard waterproof specification.

Examination of Correlation between the Condition Evaluation Results of Superstructure and the Safety and Load-carrying Capacity of Bridges (노후 교량 유지관리를 위한 상부구조물의 상태평가 결과와 교량의 안전성 및 내하력과의 상관관계 분석)

  • In recent years, many infrastructure have been rapidly aging around the world, which grows interest in the maintenance of the infrastructure. Among the social infrastructure, bridge is a very important structure to transport lots of human and various products. The performance evaluation of bridge can be divided into the condition evaluation and safety evaluation, proposed by Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation. However, there are no separate criteria for the performance evaluation of three-class bridges. In general, the performance of bridge is dominated by the results of the condition evaluation, which is lower than that of the safety evaluation. Therefore, this study assessed the correlation between the condition evaluation of superstructure and bridge and also between the condition evaluation and the safety and load-carrying capacity of bridge. The results of the study would provide a basic data for the more quantitative and higher relevant performance evaluation of the existing bridges, particularly for three-class bridges.
