Content Analysis of Practicing Journalistic Norms in Journalists' Tweets (기자는 트위터를 어떻게 이용하는가?: 기자규범에 대한 내용분석을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to explore how journalistic norms are practiced in journalists tweets by analyzing journalists' twitter. The study found that journalists consider using twitter as an extension of journalistic practice rather than a private space. In other words, journalists use twitter without a clear distinction about the nature of the twitter. In terms of journalistic norms, journalists expressed actively their opinion rather than keeping the traditional notion of objectivity. There are not much tendency of sharing the gatekeeping role. Also, journalistic use of twitter does not increase transparency as much as expected. However, there is a positive sign of practicing the newly expected journalistic role, conversation with news users. Finally the relationships between journalistic use of twitter and journalistic norms are not straightforward but diverse depending on the size and type of press, and gender of journalists.

The Journalists' Acceptance Attitudes toward Market-Driven Journalism (시장지향적 저널리즘에 대한 기자들의 수용태도)

  • This study was executed with the aim of finding out how journalists accept the market-driven journalism. 24 journalists were selected from each conservative and progressive newspapers and held in-depth interviews. The result show journalists believe that news articles should be useful than interesting. Also the result show they think it is just market-driven journalism that making public issues to social dispute in Korea. And most of them thought newspaper should be made toward upgrading it‘s contents and quality. There were some differences in thinking about those study issue between journalists belong to conservative and progressive newspapers. But there were no differences between reporters and desks.

The Change of Media and Emerging Journalistic Norm and Value: An exploration Based on the Young-hee Rhee's Idea (뉴미디어 환경과 언론인 직업 규범의 변화: 리영희 언론정신을 통한 탐색연구)

  • This study investigates normative role model of the journalists under the changing environment. Firstly, this article explores what pressure the new media environment gives to the journalists in their routine of news production and distribution. These are stated from the angle of epistemological, professional and interactive pressure. Next, as a reference for the standard journalism in the age of mass media, the idea of Rhee Young-hee, a late journalist who won respects from many Korean journalists, is studied. His firm belief in the pursuit of hard facts, rigorous investigative writing and expertism are spelt out. Then, this study explores how, in real term, this pressure changes the journalistic value, norm and practices in the newsroom. Ten of Koran journalists are interviewed in order to get their idea about the emerging journalistic standards under the digital environment. From this in-depth interviews, it is conclued that the pursuit of hard fact, investigative writing, expertism of Rhee Young-hee are, nonetheless the change of the media technology, still effective and provide good reference points for the enhancement of the standard of journalism in Korea. However, it is also suggested that the methods to fulfil desirable journalism in the digital age should be different from that of the mass communication age. The interviewees make propose that the journalist, as a network node, news curator or coordinator, should actively interact with the audiences facilitating their enhanced potential as a news 'prosumer'(producer and consumer).
